    Did you know a oil manufacturer can call a lubricant a Full Synthetic when it's only 25% synthetic? AMSOIL is different because it is 100% Synthetic and has a higher film strength keeping the metal parts separated. AMSOIL allows less friction, less heat, less wear on the component.

    3rd gen owner (TRD OR, v6 with tow pkg) and automotive engineer here. Few things on this video. I'm all for ATF changes but there is a more reliable method to check level on transmission. This is available in quite a few places online (faye hadley on youtube did one for a 2nd gen tacoma) but the best place to go is the tech docs via Toyota Tech stream (aka TIS). Pay for 24 hours access and get all the docs you need for procedure. The main thing is that after filling transmission back up you need to get the transmission in temp check mode. After cycling through the gears to get fluid purged through each shift solenoid/circuit you need to go into temp check mode. If you do not have the official Toyota OBD/CAN scan tool you can easily do it by jumping two pins on the OBD/CAN connector under the dash. You then cycle between D and S according to procedure, and then the D light on dash disappears. This means that you are in temp check mode. Keep the engine running and transmission selector in P, and the ECM/TCM will work together to bring the ATF temp up. Once it has reached appropriate range, the D indicator appears again. With the engine still running, you then check level through the check plug. Once fluid level reaches a trickle, you install check plug again and you are set. This is the proper way to do it as it accounts for expansion of fluid with temp as well as the dynamic level of fluid with engine and transmission ATF pump running. Side note: if you have tow package you have an auxiliary ATF cooler. You can optionally find the thermostat for this aux cooler circuit and pin it open manually so that the aux circuit is forced open to circulate fresh fluid through. Short but sweet video on how to check level with temp check mode: ruclips.net/video/rNqYpEpmUng/видео.htmlsi=g15Wj2SijhIo3DT2

      What temp does the tacoma need to be bc I have alot of scan tools that can do transmission fluid temperature

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  5 месяцев назад

      @kevinmeraz1566 that's a great question it's right around operating temperature basically if you fill it full when the fluid is cool or cold it will be over filled because the fluid expands as it gets hotter so the most important thing is to make sure the fluid is warm or hot at operating temperature and that way you will not overfill the transmission👍
      The exact temperature is in the technician computer database with Toyota and any of them technician can give you that info if you give them your VIN number at the dealer they should be able to give you the exact temperature

    • @tjthrelkeld8531
      @tjthrelkeld8531 5 месяцев назад +5

      @@kevinmeraz1566 the temp range is between 99°F and 111°F assuming you have a 3rd gen 6 speed auto. The fluid can get too hot and you'll be under-filled if you remove the check plug above 111, so it's best to be quick about it if you're not in cold weather (because the engine should be running while you pull the check plug). Operating temp is too hot, which is why the procedure doesn't state to bring it to full temp.

    The info I found for checkinf the level had a lower temp .maybe 90 something to lower 100 .it said to jump two pins on the obd port and to go from n to d back and fourth until the light flashes and when ir comes on then you are at the right temp...its been a lityle bit since I did mine but you can find it in the service manual

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  2 года назад +2

      Yeah I used to think that was really technical when you're doing these services but it's not there's actually quite a bit of extra room in there for expansion and contraction of the ATF fluid so really as long as the fluids warm to hot you're just fine The only thing is you don't want to do it and leave the car cold and top it off cold because you could have too much fluid.
      That would be the only real danger because the fluid expands when it gets hot.

    First off I just want to say that I genuinely love Amsoil products. I have an account with them and run it in everything, accept for Aisin transmissions... I used it in my Ram 3500 as69rc, did a full flush got all the mopar fluid out and checked the fluid level multiple time until it was perfect. It drove great, shifted great, but the temps went WAY up. Before the flush it never went above 165 unless I was pushing it hard towing 25k plus at low speeds with lots of reversing. After the flush it would regularly hit 190+ during normal driving conditions. I flushed back in mopar and everything went back to normal. I also have a 23 Taco with an Aisin and will not be using Amsoil in it. Though I will be in everything else besides the transmission..

    Hey Eben, i just changed the engine oil in my 99 ford f250 7.3 diesel to 15w40 sig series from rotella at approx 100000 miles, first thing i noticed when i fired it up after adding amsoil is the idle was slighly at a lower rpm, not huge but curious why it lowered the idle? I will say this, before the change my mpg was around 15, after the switch to amsoil plus adding seafoam to the fuel bowl and to the fuel tank with fuel filter change and i changed the zf6 trans fluid to half redline df4 and redline mtf, my next tank averaged 19 mpg. That blew my mind as i have never seen that higher than 17 even with mostly interstate driving. I also changed the cam position sensor to the updated Motorcraft model which helped plus removed cat which is just a plug for a diesel exhaust.

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  3 года назад +1

      That's awesome yeah you'll see diesel Steve on the one video with the 7.3 L diesel he went from 350 mi on a full tank to 410 mi per full tank.
      We did the Amsoil oil change engine flush We also use the seating bluest plus diesel clean That's the green bottle Amsoil makes it and that'll make a huge difference in your fuel mileage as well.
      I also recommend trying the low toxicity biodegradable coolant that Amsoil makes and also the AMS oil signature series ATF fluid also will make a big difference in how fast your transmission shifts.

      It depends on the component each vehicle has a different component that's the transmission some vehicles have two three four different transmissions on the same model it depends on the time of year it was built so I personally do not remember every vehicle some do have reusable gaskets that are really solid you can use them two three times easily some are very thin in a rip apart when you take it off so it just depends on your exact transmission that's on your exact year make and model.

    What about just replacing exactly the amount that came out ? I have a 14 4Runner

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  2 года назад +2

      Usually that's good however sometimes you can burn off a little bit of oil because over time the oil actually evaporates and you can actually lose a little bit of volume also depending on the temperature when you take out the fluid it'll also expand and contracts so the best thing is just to fill it until it starts to overflow make sure the fluid is warm and or at operating temperature and you'll always be good the only thing you don't want to do is overfill it by filling it when it's cold because when the fluid gets hot it actually expands quite a bit about 10% in volume and you don't want to overfill the transmission by a quart and a half it could overflow and/or cause damage so you just want to make sure it's warmer hot once you top it off

  • @trailblazer4609
    @trailblazer4609 2 года назад +2

    Do you have the part numbers for the pan gasket, filter and crush washers for the fill, drain and check level nuts? Is there a OBD reader that can be used to check the temperature, or can I check the pan with a temperature gun?

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  2 года назад +2

      You're fine with a temperature gun The biggest most important thing is to make sure you let the ATF fluid get hot.
      Usually if you let a car sit in idle for about 5 minutes it's fine The biggest thing is to make sure the fluids not ice cold because of the fluid is super cold you would have way too much ATF fluid.
      It's a ballpark thing It doesn't have to be perfect but you just want to make sure the fluid is not cold That's the most important part.
      I'm sure you can do the OB2 I do not have the part numbers however it will be on the lookup guide here and as far as crush washers I do not get new ones I usually reuse the old one most important thing is to put it on the way it came off and it will seal just fine.
      This is my personal link in the lookup guide will give you everything for your vehicle and I recommend the 6 month PC membership if you new to Amsoil that'll save you a ton of money when you use my link I'll get the credit and I can always answer all your questions on the products in the future.

      Yeah it's not that complicated all you want to do is make sure the fluid is warm because the fluid volume changes by temperature for instance if you filled it well it was extremely cold outside you could have way too much fluid in it but as long as you check the fluid level well it's warm to medium warm you're fine.

      If you're doing all highway driving you can do anywhere from 50 to 100,000 miles just depends on the temperature the vehicle's driven in and how much highway driving you're doing.

      Of course we have all kinds of videos on the channel with all different transmission fluid changes at all different miles always have a great result quicker shifts smoother idle better fuel mileage longer life of transmission.
      This playlist will give a lot of subtleties and insight into the outcome of changing the fluids on transmissions ruclips.net/p/PLB_ftWArBFdeufGVSL3m0GooSGQ27fjnl

    Why not just pop loose the trans hose off the cooler while its running to get it all out, then refill that amount back in?

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  Год назад

      Oh yeah that's the best way to do it if you have plenty of fluid you always want to make sure you get about five extra quarts then what you need and then you just need to have two or three people ready to turn the car on and do it definitely the best way however you need to have many people focused and ready and you need a lot of extra fluid to make sure you're ready to turn it off at the right time.
      We do have a video on the channel where we did that procedure if you type in Amsoil engine flush 1500 pickup you'll see it😊

      That's a great question Craig there's a lot of things that can come into play but the main reason is longevity a lot of dealerships rely on replacement parts transmissions differentials motors these are big money makers for dealers.
      They recommend very long intervals to help expediate expiration on components.
      The biggest money maker at a dealership is the parts department.
