one major criticism to the HCMT is its crappy speaker
I don't know is the manufacturer keep using the primitive megaphone-type speaker or not , but most of the stop announcement is mushed, even most of the non-programmed announcement are hardly recognized if not being concentrated , like the good old comeng's, while the newer fleets and the life extended comengs with new display are much clear than this train
otherwise it's an interesting and comfortable train despite having a weird motor sound in geek's perspective
Swing doors were still operating in the mid to late 1960's, I remember catching one at Victoria Park after a football match.
Yes, the last was withdrawn in 1974
I remember catching the swing door train's as a kid but am a bit astounded they ran till 74. The trouble with them was you were stuck in a very little room because you couldn't walk through them . They had superb lights in them.
Great video! I can't wait to get back to Melbourne and get on one of the HCMTs.
Another great post. I look forward to seeing your posts in the future
Nice work!
For those that don't know the swing doors use to open outwards. They had beautiful brass handles.
This is great!
Very informative!
Great video!
Cool video well done
Great Video.
I’ve seen a HCMT With “Werribee” On the destination boards before and filmed it and putted up on my RUclips Channel.
Currently fitting out HCMT set 44 at Newport, 5 extra sets have been ordered.
These must be the most aerodynamic trains I have ever seen in a Melbournians network?
Their rated speed is up to 130kmh which once they are the only ones on the outer suburban areas, I would not be surprised if they are allowed to reach such high speeds out to Sunbury, melton (when it’s electrified), and Pakenham, - I’m not so sure about the speeds on Cranbourne line since VLine doesn’t operate there but I imagine you could run fast there too with enough space
Hmm, I'm sure I can remember a couple of Tait trains operating on the Hurstbridge line well after the last of the Harris trains had been from service. I'm not saying they were part of the regular service line up, and I was surprised to see one at Westgarth, but still, I think a couple were around until the late 1990s.
That would not be true at all. The last ones were retired in 1984. You probably bumped into a heritage tour as opposed to an actual service.
Nice history
The Metro Tunnel is on track to be completed by 2025 and it will have the Sunbury, Cranbourne and Pakenham Lines running through it. Also it will have direct airport connection via the Melbourne Airport Rail Link by 2029.
There is also the Suburban Rail Loop which is a 90 km rail line from Cheltenham to Werribee via Melbourne Airport. It’s still 3 decades away from completion, but half of it from Cheltenham to Melbourne Airport will be underground with SRL driverless trains.
Very nice
HCMT’s should replace about half of the Comeng’s I think since there are 90 6 car Comeng’s, so I’d assume if there are only gonna be 25 xtrap 2.0’s in the first order they’ll need maybe 40-50 more HCMT’S to replace them.
I believe they are only scheduled to replace stage 1 life extensions which number around 25, and yeah they will order more HCMTs in future
Would be good if they had some USB ports
Personally I'd love to see some red rattlers from a historic tourism perspective
@@nostalgiaof98 too many clowns would vandalize them
The HCMT trains only belong to the Cranbourne and Pakenham Lines. (East Pakenham) by 2024.
@@thelionking219 i know, i never said anything regarding the lines they ran on.
I’ve seen 2 of these trains both on the same day one leaving Flinders St and again another one while on the platform
nice!
Love your videos! Had started to plan a trip traveling to all metro stations in the fastest time not long ago. Have had to postpone. Do you prefer the HCMT trains over the X'trapolis trains?
I definetely do, "xcraps" I call them
@@MetroManMelbourne the 2.0 or the current?
@@thevictoriantrainspotter6636 I like the look of the current and the new
Hcmt it's different looking through the whole train end to end with no doors or those flexible connections on the Siemens trains
Once I nearly puked on a strap since it was late so it went 5 - 10 kph over the limit
@@MetroManMelbourne xcrapolis
Cool. And what's the future for the Siemens' and Xtrapolis 100's?
refurbishment in the next couple years, and then retirement of the Siemens in 15-20 or so, Xtraps may go for another 30
@@MetroManMelbourne At least they'll be around for a bit longer.
in my experience of hcmt trains don't like it when you hold the button down before the light has changed but that might just been the train i caught few months back
that's been an issue for them I didn't cover much in this video. They've added some signage next to the buttons but they just need a redesign.
Since the Melbourne X'Trapolis trains are designated the 100 series, would it be right to designate the 2.0 trains the 200 series? Also if they follow the letter configuration (xxxM/xxxT) they would likely start from 1001M and 3001T, or possibly D would be used for the Driving Motor cars
200 series quite a possible name.
Because the sets consist of 2x as many trailer cars as motor cars (2 powered 2 unpowered) I have a feeling there might be some change to the numbering system. Alternatively, they could use numbers from (by that point) scrapped Comeng sets.
It's design by Chinese company CRRC.
@@maxwilliams5941 The High Capacity Metro Trains are built by CRRC, however the X'Trapolis 2.0s will be built by Alstom, most likely at Dandenong.
Sensor motion detection would be good for train door entrances as passengers near them outside /*\;,.
Awesome! Siemens Nexas now loses the title of being the newest Victorian EMU xD (even tho this happened like what Dec 2020)
after 18 years lol
Thanks for the Melbourne stuff. Are the Metros in Melbourne driverless? Look forward to more. We subscribed today.
Not at the moment, however they will become semi-automatic through the Metro Tunnel when that opens, and in future the HCMTs could be converted to driverless operation.
@@MetroManMelbourne will SRL be driverless?
@@JimmiAlli I believe so
@@MetroManMelbourne thanks very much and thanks for the nice video
The Andrews private trainset.....
Many transport projects are planned for the next ten years all to the tune of around one hundred billion dollars.
V/line train to Melbourne from Traralgon V/Line VLocity and all lines
Surprised your Siemens fleet only saw four years of passenger sevice here in the uk they'd see a good few years yet unless reliability became a major issue.
You might have got the wrong information - our Siemens trains have been serving us for 19 years and are still going.
@@MetroManMelbourne ah my bad nice to see there serving you well though
Xtrapolis has always been my favourite and it will always be my favourite. Not a fan of the 2.0 design but looks promising I guess.
Have all stations been designed for disability access. Parliament is not. Lift one end and disability access the other. Laburnum Station does not have a raised platform. Nunawading does but there is no cover from the weather. Why are train floors not level with platforms? Drivers must put down metal ramps for access.
I Near the Lilydale/Belgrave Lines so I only ever see X'trapolis trains :/
7:05 thought it was 2026?
It is my child hood dream to drive trains, I was born an bread in Melbourne an I can not even get a job with metro. I can hardly understand any of there staff as they’re English is very broken. I would run rings around absolutely any of there employees an yet I still can’t seem to pull an interview. I will get a job there at any cost!
I❤comeng’s train
Why do you call them "Swing Doors" and not "Red Rattlers"?
The red rattlers are taits not swing doors firstly and second I prefer to be formal in videos
Probably a dumb question but why do they need new trains to replace comengs why can't they get more trains to supplement the existing fleet and run more services
a lot of the HCMTs will actually supplement the existing fleet, but trains can only last a certain time before they need to be replaced (in regular service) so some of them that are now 40 years old need to be replaced
@@MetroManMelbourne lol 40 years may seem allot in Australia but if you look at Eastern Europe countries of the former socialist bloc the trains they run there are well over 50 years old. Though to be fair we still run T class locos here in Victoria and those too are over 50 years old.
@@tinybudgie8039 yeah it is possible but ideally trains only run for 40ish years
@@tinybudgie8039 Good for Eastern Europe.
Thanks to Rod's blackmail, there is less than half the customers using the trains. Do we really need the extra services and capacity.
Just a z1
But Comengs are the best 😭
i do not like the new hcmt cos the doors look like hitachi doors
the siemens doors look more modern
Hmm 🤔 Lol 😂
I am over Comeng
Cant they afford automatic doors....joke!!!
Yet another Labor project which relies on spin and propaganda. The new trains are not high capacity. They should be called Andrews trains. Any train can be made high capacity by expanding the number of carriages and building a new line to fit them. We had a true high-capacity train in 1992, before we imported UK managers. As noted by the supplier: removing seats increases capacity. I did ride the packed public one in 2012. If I had been blindfolded, I couldn't have guessed what I was riding. What is needed for capacity increase is better signalling: something which PTV refuses to do.
They are high capacity - some 40% higher than current trains.
