    Nice report. We live in Taugig City, Manila. Its worth visiting the impressive Museum of Natural History near Rizal Park. Also Manila Ocean Park on Bay of Manila, we like H20 hotel. You can stay there for under $100, in Middle East same room costs you $1000/nite. Sleep in an aquarium for a once in lifetime experience.

      I agree but in recent years, new skyways (toll) have opened in Metro Manila. This has changed the traffic flow significantly if you come from the Southern part of metropolis to airport, Makati or even Quezon City. 30 to 45 minutes from 2 hours. There's also a new free toll road from BGC to Ortigas business districts. With these, you won't pass the much dreaded EDSA traffic. Right now, the construction of subway has started. Full underground transport system from Quezon City, airport, Makati, etc. Tunneling has started.

    Smart do 475 pesos a month for 1gb data a day unlimited texted and unlimited calls to the same network. Most people use Smart and Globe there.
    Not BGC but in Manila you can get a studio maybe 1 bedroom Air BnB for 30,000 pesos a month all in. 2000 visa renewal, 2500 insurance, 500 load and a 1000 pesos a day for food transport etc. 65,000 pesos plus 10,000 for emergencies so $1500.

    For a while I was losing hope where I could still have safety from weather and still stay in a very developed area with ease of access. Would be great to have a video about the Infrastructure and Healthcare system.

    Correction: 3 centennial not millinia. My mistake. 🙏
    I think in general we, Filipinos have this 'forgive but not forget' kind of attitude. Even if Spain wasn't nice to us for 3 millinia, we still love Spain. In fact, plenty of Filipinos would like to go to Spain and also to learn the Spanish language to embrace our historical heritage. It's the same thing with Japan, they did horrendous things to Filipinos but nowadays, Filipinos look up to Japanese culture, arts and technology.

    • @Falconlibrary

      3 millinia ? 3000 years? No, think it was only about 330 years! Even though quite a long period of time. Yes, Spanish could have been the language instead of English as like in Mexico and south America. Although in Ilocos Norte the city of Vigan is the most Spanish-latino town in the country. Much old Spanish culture there.

    • @OnilMarteNavarroza

      @@trosenvinge yes! My mistake. I was thinking about 300 years not 3000 years. I should edit that one.

    LOL $1140 a month in Makati? Every time I land in Makati, It's $100 a day ~ Food and drinks and hotel stay ~ Try $2000 a month in Makati! ~ OK you now say $1400, but it is $2000 a month:
    I do not have a budget and I can spend around $10,000 USD a month, but I like to save, so I am at Cebu spend $750 to $1500 a month ~ In my book, I would tell people:

      Great question mjs28s, I have one report where I explain what I do about health care and another where I show you how I search for health insurance.
      What I do about health care: vagabondbuddha.com/two-biggest-risks-of-retiring-early-overseas/
      Report where I search for health insurance: vagabondbuddha.com/best-health-insurance-for-ex-pats-in-philippines/
      By the way, once you search for health care you will start seeing more offers for health insurance and travelers insurance when you are online. Health insurance is one of the most dynamic or changing industries in the travel world because so many people around the world are deciding to live or retire outside their home country. So do a search every year before you renew to make sure you have the best available for your personal circumstances because new ones come out every few months. Thanks for asking so I could answer this for many people! Dan

    Thanks for your informative videos and I plan to subscribe. I have heard a lot about Makati/BGC which I plan on visiting but my current preference is Bangkok for long term living. Makati/BGC appears to be a very "sterile" westernized environment with high rise towers surrounding giant high end shopping malls with a "green" space. Not very authentic. In addition, I am still working remotely and prefer to save time and money with high quality food from nearby street vendors. The only vendors I saw in Makati were at the Sunday Legazpi market. In a previous video you mentioned that you don't recommend Costa Rica because it is much too Americanized but you don't have the same critical view of Makati. I don't mind a neighborhood that may be a little rough around the edges but safety may be somewhat of an issue in lower income areas of Manila. In contrast, I have never had concerns about safety in Thailand. Western people occasionally have some problems in Thailand but for the most part these tend to be a result of their own bad behavior and associated karmic consequences. Hoping you can provide further comments. Thanks!

    Thank you two for the great video of Makati and the cost of living there, Dan! You mentioned in the video you are also there to get your visas extended.
    My question to you is, is the Philippines strictly adhering to its 30-day policy that a US citizen can only stay for 30 days and then has to exit the county?
    I used to purchase round-trip tickets from the US for 59 days and 89 days, arrive in Manila on the 30-day visa on arrival and then go to the local immigration office before the 30 days was over with and get an extension to day 59 and then would go again before the 59th day and get my second extension.
    Do you know if upon arrival immigration is going to require me to have a departure airline ticket strictly no more than 30 days from arrival or are they relaxed like they used to be and won't ask to see the return ticket and will allow the extensions mentioned like they used to pre-pandemic.
    It has been over two years since I have been able to get back to the Philippines, I used to go there a couple of times a year, and I desperately need to get back there.
    Thanks in advance for your reply and some clarification regarding this matter, Dan.

      greg77059, Although Visa rules can change at anytime, so you have to do your own research on this. But at the time I wrote the below report, here is why we decided not to get a retirement visa in the Philippines. The short story is that if you are from the visa free countries, you can extend your tourist for up to 36 months. Here are the details at the time we did the research:
      vagabondbuddha.com/retirement-visa-in-the-philippines-do-you-need-one/

    • @greg77059
      @greg77059 2 года назад

      Thanks for your reply, Dan! I think you may have misunderstood me. I am not interested in a retirement visa there. All I am interested in is purchasing a r/t airline ticket from Houston to Manila for 89 days and not to have a problem once I enter the Philippines since my return ticket will not be for a return within 30 days. When you said in your video you-all were extending your visas, that led me to ask you if the Philippines immigration is a stickler at the airport there wanting to see a departure ticket from the Philippines within 30 days of arrival since the current way I read the immigration policy is that no one can remain in the country as a US citizen there as a tourist for more than 30 days. In the past, pre-Covid, one could come there on a 30-day visa on arrival as a tourist, keep extending their visa, and did not have to show a departure ticket to another country that was for within 30 days of arrival when they entered the Philippines. I did that many times, but I just need someone on the ground there to clarify what the policy is there now. The immigration site says nothing regarding this, but I don't think it has ever said anything regarding this. Please clarify if you can, and thank you for replying! You are about the only RUclipsr that responds to questions! You-all are awesome and are totally the real deal. Unfortunately, I cannot say that about all people who have subscribers and post content. Rarely do I ever get a response back from them, so rarely do I ask a question or comment on others' RUclips channels, but you are really kind and wonderful when it comes to caring about others and genuinely wanting to help them in any way possible. I am living proof of this. Thank you, Dan!

    • @greg77059
      @greg77059 2 года назад

      And more directly, I should have asked what your current experience with immigration is there this trip you are on. Did they ask you for proof of departure within 30 days of arrival? Are they allowing you to extend your visas beyond this 30-day rule that is in place due to Covid? I know they opened the place up to toursist in February -- I found that out within the first few minutes of you-all posting that video -- but what I need to know is if I can still extend my stay like I used to pre-Covid without having to leave the country within 30 days of arrival and show an airline ticket upon arrival that shows I am leaving the country within 30 days. I want to buy a r/t ticket with a departure date of 59 days or 89 days from arrival and not with a departure date of 30 days from arrival. And yes, I know that anything is subject to change with a moment's notice there, especially now with Covid, so I won't hold you to any information you tell me. I am just asking you your personal experience this trip of yours you are on there now since you mentioned you-all are in Manila getting your visas extended. I am assuming you-all are in the country as tourists since you obviously are not there on retiree visas. I am assuming you-all have been there under this new 30-day rule and you are extending beyond that. Did you have to show your departure tickets for 30 days within arrival? I hope you better understand my original question and concern now.. I am not at all interested in a retiree visa. All I am interested in knowing is with this pandemic and this 30-day rule, did that change the allowance of visa extensions in any way and do I have to now show a departure ticket from the Philippines dated within 30 days of arrival when I enter the Philippines and go through immigration there. Thanks again, Dan!

      @@amaliahightower Hi, Amalia, and thank you for your input! I am just worried since I have been under the assumption that all travelers to the Philippines since the country reopened for travel that it's strictly 30 days that one can stay there, that there are no visa extensions. I understand you have been there for a while. That's why I wanted to hear from Dan since I know he has only recently gone there, since the country was reopened, and he says in his video that they are in Manila for visa extensions, which lead me to ask him the questions I did. I hope he will answer since I clarified for him that I was not talking about the retirement visa. I have been to the Philippines many times, since 2003, so I know all about visa extensions pre-Covid but not post-Covid, and as you probably know, the Philippines is not very good about updating their website or fully explaining things. Actually, I will definitely go two weeks back and find that video of Dan's where he discusses what they needed to enter the country, but I wouldn't think it would talk about an extension beyond the 30 days, but obviously I need to go back and look at that video. I have already seen the video where he talked about retiree's visas, so I guess that's where I got confused, thinking I had already seen the video he mentioned and that you now mention. I will look at it now and hopefully have my question answered, but I hope Dan will get back with me and reply to my last replies to his reply to clarify things. I know that I am going to need a Covid test just before arrival and also health insurance that covers Covid, and I am already fully vaccinated for Covid. I just need to know for sure if I can buy a r/t ticket that's got a departure date of 59 days or 89 days in the country and not just 30 days if I can stay for two or three months by extending. Anyway, thanks again, Amalia! I really appreciate your input!
