- Goldberg is famous for his time in WCW and WWE, but his career is one of two halves. Bill Goldberg burst onto WCW Nitro in 1997 and had an incredible first year, his undefeated streak included winning the WCW US title and the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, but then his career started to decline. He arrived in WWE to much excitement, but his run is considered a disappointment, and his WWE return in 2016 tarnished his legacy as he had terrible matches with The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and others. In this wrestling documentary we explore the rise and fall of Goldberg across WCW and WWE.

good video, subbed
Goldberg was basically WCW'S Version of the ultimate warrior. Someone who had the look but not the skill
For real...
Intercontinental Champion, Ultimate Warrior challenges and defeats Hulk Hogan for the WWE Championship in the SkyDome.
United States Champion, Goldberg challenges and defeats Hollywood Hogan for the WCW Championship in the Georgia Dome.
Can't get anymore Warrior-like than that.
Lesnar did not eliminate Goldberg from the Royal Rumble, he came in and gave him an F5 then someone else threw him out. Also Lesnar lost the WWE title to Eddie, didn't beat him for it.
Your correct, Kurt Angle tossed Goldberg out.
Seeing as how Regal commands a ton of respect from fellow wrestlers while Goldberg has…almost none, I’m gonna go with Regal’s view of what happened. Goldberg later on prolly decided in his head it actually wasn’t his fault for the shitty match then
Eddie Guerrero beat Brock at No Way Out 2004 for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Right, and Goldberg got back at Lesnar during that match to set Eddie up for the victory.
This idiot said Lesnar beat Guerrero for WWE championship, what a moron
Always remember that smarks, fans on the internet went on for 15 years revising history saying “They buried goldberg in his first run” When goldberg won the world title, won every feud except for 1, never lost cleanly. Yet he was “buried”
Freaking smarks.....
He was buried in WWE, not WCW. He was dominant in WWE but they tarnished his character and allowed Triple H to beat him in the Elimination Chamber.
did you watch wrestling during that era or not, because if you think goldberg was buried because he lost that match while eliminating almost everyone during the match is moroning, he won the world title the very next ppv but hey he was ''buried''@@Jspore-ip5rk
Dude he was literally burying Orton, Michaels and Jericho in that match. And he didn't earn it or deserve it. Should have been a much tougher fight for him.
He was literally given everything , but he couldn't perform a decent match, therefore his run died out. Fans quickly got bored of him.
@@Jspore-ip5rk
In the event following Summer Slam, Goldberg wiped the floor with Triple H in spite of him having the whole Evolution stable in his corner. Then In Survivor Series Goldberg did it again, and this time he had a (keyfabe) leg injury.
Another WCW talent "buried" in Triple H's "reign of terror".
Goldberg was a classic case of overpush on WCW, bad booking in WWE and creative mistakes in both organization.
The people watching Goldberg vs. Regal live at that time had no idea what they were witnessing.
Lol true. I was a teenager then and even though I knew wrestling wasn't real it just seemed like such an awkward match, especially with regal looking uncharacteristically dominant against big Bill.
@@natediaz1863 Regal at the time was one of the best if not the best Technical wrestler of his Generation so he could beat Goldberg and it was not a suprise he was able to dominate him. Regal even helped years later Train The American Dragon Brian Danielson..
That match was awesome 😂
I never found Goldberg too bad to watch even though he was considered to be limited in the ring
I agree, I didn't start disliking him until he started talking. 😂
Well he's there for like a minute so we never got the chance get sick of him
He has three moves
My favourite wrestling channel bar none.
It's been rumored that Vince wanted Goldberg to partake in an Australian tour sometime before SummerSlam 2003, Goldberg straight up said no, and apparently that was the reason why he ended up losing that Elimination Chamber match in such a lousy fashion.. it was the company's way of punishing him for not wanting to go on an overseas tour under the boss's wishes.
Nah, watch his recent interview. It's because he tried to beat up Triple H before they hired him for WWE.
@@DJYC21215 sure Goldberg would say that
Eddie beat Brock Lesnar for the WWE title at No Way Out 2004, Kevin Nash in 1998 shreddered Goldberg's momentium (Nash played Super Shredder in TMNT 2 Secret of the Ooze)
I was a fan of Goldberg during his WCW era I didn’t like how they ended his streak it’s up there with Undertaker streak being ruined
I was a huge Goldberg fan. He even gave me his gloves after beating Kevin Nash at the Los Angeles Forum. We knew someone in creative at the time and they told us 3 months in advance that he would lose at Starrcade. The mystique had officially come to an end 🫤
@@nvalle23 back up you got one of his gloves?????!!?!?!! Please tell me you still have it
Even Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan hated the idea of Goldberg losing and wanted him to remain Undefeated.
Goldberg was so overrated
I remember back in the 90s my best friend had a WCW PS1 game we played a lot. We made it a rule that none would be allowed to pick Goldberg. They made him super overpowered with all maxed out stats etc... WCW really went allin with selling him as an absolute monster in every product they had 😅
Smackdown here comes the pain Goldberg & Brock was over powered to the max
I liked Goldberg as a kid but they really damaged him with that lost to Kevin Nash. They should have just let DDP beat him in their match.
That Jackhammer reversal into a Diamond Cutter was epic! And would have made a nice way to end the streak. At least better than how we got it.
Ddp beat him LOL
WCW Bill Goldberg was the best
Yes let's have a guy without talent bury the entire roster. That will win us the Monday night wars.. oh wait..
Agree!!!!!
@@user-fr1ys2wn4tdamn bro you care way too much 🤣
Tell that to Bret Hart
He wasn't very skilled he just had a lot of energy
Even thought he was limited...He was exactly what WCW needed...
Homegrown monster talent....
But as the video showed...
He was quite limited in his abilities....
But with the NWO starting to lose steam Goldberg was able to pick up the ball and run with it....
His Hogan World championship match could have been made into the biggest money maker of them all if WCW wasn't looking for a quick fix...
In the end Bill did what he could do and that was it
I became pro-wrestling fan in 2002, when I was 13 years old. I remember seen Goldberg in 2003. Early 2004 Goldberg fought Scott Steiner and Test in triple-threat match. Cool video about Goldberg.
Amazing as always
2003 best Elimination chamber ever !!!
Goldberg was the right guy, in the right place, at the right time.
I thought Nash's booking was great. Someone had to beat Goldberg. Nash beating Goldberg with Scott Hall's help was a believable but surprising outcome. At least Nash didn't make Goldberg wear a green robe and wizard's hat, that would have been some bad booking.
There's no facts or evidence of Goldberg ending Bret Hart's career, Goldberg used that kick on everyone and Hart was the only one to cry about it and Bret wrestled for about 6 months after that match. Nash buried Goldberg in WCW and HHH buried Goldberg in WWE. Say what you want but nobody in wrestling history got more famous faster than Goldberg and there's a lot of people jealous and resentful of that.
Thank you I waited for this
Could you do one on Booker T 🙂
Goldberg wasn't 100% to blame during the Goldberg/Taker match. Taker made lots of mistakes too.
Tru dat
Taker has gone on record to say the match frustrated him because he didn't notice Goldberg had a concussion and kept going. He didn't want his match with him to look bad, but that plus a mix of him not being in the ring for a while ended up with that match.
97-98 was Goldberg's high in WCW and seeing his career seem to drop dead instantly thanks to everything the company put him through
I’d say 97-99 at most.
Bought time someone did a video on this topic
Let’s not forget Goldberg‘s ridiculous heel turn inWCW in mid to late, 2000
That went absolutely no where
We probably should forget it since it lasted all of three weeks.
In my eyes he was always a heel anyway
Good review
Thank you for this Video !
Lesnar didn't beat Eddie Guerrero for the world title at "NO WAY OUT" in February 2004. It was actually the other way around. Guerrero beat Lesnar for the title. And Goldberg helped Guerrero do it.
If you weren’t alive when Da Man came onto the scene, then you’ll never get why fans like me love Goldberg. And it pisses me off that wrestling marks try to reduce his career to the Regal match and the Hart ACCIDENT. Goldberg no more did that on purpose than the man in the moon. He was a phenom who got a hard push extremely early bc his look and move set alone got him over. So Bischoff pushed him and wanted him to be able to perform 4-5 moves extremely well. I’d say the pump handle fall away, the gorilla press slams, spear, and jackhammer more than fit the Bill. I was at Nitro and Raw every time they came to Austin, San Antonio, or Dallas. His pop was louder than Stone Cold’s or The Rock’s in person. I was also fortunate to be in Atlanta when he won the belt vs Hollywood. You couldn’t hear yourself think - and he’d been in the business like 10 months. He’s a legend in my book and always will be. Nothing like him before or since has ever come onto the scene in pro wrestling and never will. He’s a family man, never had drug problems, has always been in shape, and is in better shape at a retired 57 right now than everyone in this comments section. He deserved to head that Hall of Fame 2018 bc he was by far the biggest name of the class.
Say what you want, I loved Goldberg
I"M 100% SURE that Eddie Guerrero beat Brock Lesnar for the WWE championship, not the other way around.
Goldberg was WCW through and through - in that promotion he truly was GOLDBERG; the smaller ring with menacing black ropes that perfectly suited his big badass aura played a big part in that .. the gimmick never worked in the sanitized PG WWE
You won't stop on delivering only GREAT content... Absolute nice work!!!
Loved Goldberg , especially in wcw. Legend
Kevin Nash became a booker in 1999 he beat Goldberg in 1998….
Goldberg was getting a mixed reaction before WWE
You didn’t touch on his heel turn either
The dream match was booed out of the building because of the fans they got word both men were leaving the company
By 2000 goldbergs aura was well and truely over.
1998 was his peak!
But after his terrible world title run writing was on the wall
Hollywood Rock Returns
Not really a fall as much as the end of a long successful career.
he's literally pissing himself on twitter about asuka having a long streak then him despite her being twice, promo he ever was.
Another amazing video, thanks for your content I always look forward to watching your uploads 😁
Aside from the Undertaker match I was always entertained by Bill Goldberg and seeing him job to Brawn Strowman was Goldberg giving back in my opinion.
Brawn should be Da Man as Bobby the Brain would say in wrestling today.
Was always a big Goldberg fan.. and that's never changed. Watching his first run culminating to that Hogan Title match every week was exciting. The last good match of that title run was vs DDP at Halloween Havoc '98. And then after the horrendous Ultimate Warrior return, Hogan wanted the belt back..
It's a crime we got goldberg vs taker and not taker vs sting.
One of the best. May not have been the best technical wrestler ever, but he was powerful and had his own charisma.
The WWF had fazed out the cartoon stuff by late 96 and definitely by late 97 when Goldberg debuted. You have a few errors in this video sir but other comments have pointed them out
If you ever seen Goldberg with a knot on his forhead, it's because he would smash his head against a locker to get himself hyped up. Crazy stuff.
Just imagine him debuting in WWF instead of WCW
WCW Goldberg was Da Man!
I don't thing Goldberg had a down fall. Passing the torch yes down fall no
I’m sorry but he was the WCW guy who could believably take out Scott Hall, Lex Luger and Kevin Nash in a ring. You’re not even acknowledging how powerful Goldberg was.
Goldberg was Goldberg, he fitted the character excellently.
No one says, he was the best, no one says he was good. But the guy did what he had to do and made a name for himself.
Same case for Cena, Hogan and many others. They're not the most technical wrestlers ever but they sticked to their niche and performed it better than anyone else could. In Goldberg's case though he WAS green for a while, and prone to injure others. I'm assuming he improved during his run in the WWE though where he was performing longer matches.
Just two things from an otherwise fantastic video,
1. As you said yourself Kevin Nash took over booking in 1999 but Goldberg/Nash was in late 1998 so Nash hadn’t taken over and didn’t book himself to beat Goldberg, it’s also well known Goldberg was getting booed and receiving “Goldberg sucks” chants prior to Goldberg/Nash.
2. The kick Bret Hart got from Goldberg didn’t end Bret’s career as he wrestled Terry Funk in a hardcore match and Kevin Nash for the title a month after the Goldberg/Hart match and didn’t retire until almost a year later in late 2000.
William Regal was a highly regarded technical wrestler? What do you mean by technical wrestler?
For the record I'm a Bill Goldberg fan but, he had about 105 victories not 173. 3 are disqualifications, within his 105 victories some wrestlers, wrestled him multiple times many were unknowns a couple famous. So basically 68 wins were added to make him look greater than he really was.
Thumbnail makes him look like he's got a wicked hemorrhoid
The character worked really well and there is no doubt he was over but he was an awful weestler. He had about 3 moves in total. That said, for a man with 3-4 moves he did really well for himself.
I’m just going predicting this assessment: he lacked experience having anything other than a smash match, Steve Williams showed him up, then he broke his hand by punching a car, and then he went to WWE, hated it, retired, then came back and beat younger more preferred individuals for the heavyweight title
Goldberg vs Evolution vs Kane? Are you shitting me?
Fastlane 2017 Main Event was my worst wrestling memory ever.
"It's better to leave the memories alone". Yeah sometimes it is
WWE missed him the first time.
for the longest time i thought that goldberg and stone cold the same guy
Very similar to Umaga
This breaks my heart on how Goldberg was booked in WWE if only Vince McMahon had to brain to book Goldberg right maybe Goldberg's early years in the WWE would've been spectacular he would've feuded with John Cena Undertaker Batista Edge and if he had started in WWF he would have feuded with Stone Cold Steve Austin but it's s damn shame how Vince ruined his life
WCW pushed him too early he ended Bret Harts career I’ll never forgive him for that
He didn't, though
Crazy how Goldberg outlasted his WWE Career to most Wrestlers and he survived Evolution sure he's part time but he's still Goldberg and I'm still sad Goldberg and Benoit never had a match in '02 or '04
What fall? When was he not on top. Just because he had a few bad matches doesn’t mean he “fell”. But that’s my opinion
There was a fall?
You are wrong. I asked for all those matches that you said nobody asked for. Goldberg should have ended Reigns' pitiful title run. Even at his advanced age, he was twice the wrestler Reigns will ever be!
He was awesome james
Thanks Stunned by Wrestling
Goldberg changed the meaning of wrestling n he the crowd loved him dearly .long live Goldberg
Goldberg was cool the first couple times. WCW had the best roster of legends around. Goldberg went through the top guys like they were nothing. Not cool from management. Walked right over Henning and I was like this is bs.
I was never a fan of Goldberg with his limited move set and tendency to injure other wrestlers like he did to Bret Hart.
Bret Hart wrestled a hardcore match against Terry Funk soon after so Hart screwed Hart again.
Far to much blame on goldberg , its nature of wrestling
GREAT VIDEO
Nothing wrong with a wrestler coming back to be the heel.
Pretty sure Kurt Angle threw out Goldberg out of the Rumble, and Eddie beat Brock at No Way Out
Golsberg never fell
Goldberg vs undertaker should had been done his first run in wwe not 16 years 😒
Is this a joke list or something Goldberg was not booked improperly nor was he booked poorly.
He was given all the chances while his momentum was somehow halted by triple h but he still had a very good run and people liked his approach The only issue was he was not really happy because he was not a team player and he was called out for this in the locker room in the locker room didn't like him.
The main issue was that during that time while he was unhappy Brock was also unhappy and this resulted both of them not renewing their contract despite WWE giving them a lot of money The problem was a lot of travel and a lot of shows burned them out. The only reason Goldberg failed was because he didn't like to be in the company he used to bad mouth and hate WWE for a long time.
After his ego was stopped he finally relented and had one last run in the WWE The problem with Goldberg was that he was unable to have long matches and was not really good in the ring beyond his few moves that has been called out by numerous wrestlers he has been known to be called Greenberg by Jericho by William regal and a lot of others.
Goldberg was not an expert in the ring he used to beat up a lot of people known for his stiff moves also making most idiotic mistakes he injured his hand that sidelined him for almost 4 months due to injury , he also entered the career of Bret Hart and made sure that Undertaker face a very horrible injury that could have resulted in his death in KSA .
He still badmouths WWE to this day. Think about that.
@@iLikeMyOwnPosts not like him .
He was known to be a bad in the ring .
William regal made his shortcomings known
Jericho destroyed his nonsense
The guy is crazy
@@JonySmith-bb4gx its a shame that Goldberg didn't get any real wrestling experience at any indie show because if that have happened he could have been a good wrestler and got experience. That's what he should have done after his football career was over
Goldbergs elimination chamber is easily the best ever ❤️
There was no fall of Goldberg. He is a multi-millionaire lol
ok boomer.
Goldberg was an animal in WCW
Even as a small child I thought he was ahead of bum but it didn’t save my sisters from getting jackknifed or speared.
I thought eddie guerrero beat lesnar for the wwe championship at no way out 2004 due to Goldberg interference
I really liked Goldberg back in the day but if he actually knew how to wrestle he really could have been amazing
I swear I thought these dudes rehearsed their matches before having a real match. I'm shocked to learn that they dont
Roman Reigns is this generation's Goldberg. Both overrated with limited in ring skills. But the only difference is, WWE is using Roman's family to keep him at the top.
also, Roman is actually training learning and improving in a way Goldberg is not
An awesome nostalgic wrestling channel. Take it from me. Don't forget to hit like and subscribe
Him injuring Brett Hart was the beginning of the end for him he was seen as a unsafe worker
Hey mate you was wrong about Brock beating Eddie guerrero at no way out Goldberg screwed Brock so Eddie could win his first and only wwe title run just like Brock screwed him at the royal rumble thats y Brock didn't have the wwe championship wen he fought Goldberg at mania
Its WWE's fault for letting Goldberg wrestle Undertaker at Saudi shows bc the pronce of Saudi wants Goldberg to wrestle
Goldberg was awesome!
Like bobby heenan said about it.. when you beat Goldberg you killed the golden goose and why would you do that especially in the terrible way they did it then the follow up with the finger poke of doom. Them two things there really caused the downslide for WCW creatively and it just got worse and worse for the next 2 years they was in business
*Bret Hart breathes heavily*
The cocaine held him back
Goldberg still has one more match left in him. Just wait and see
Who's idea was it for Goldberg to wrestle Undertaker in 2019? Goldberg was 53 at this point! Goldberg wasn't good when he was 33! I have to see this train wreck now!
Don’t do it to yourself, it’s time you’ll never get back 🤦🏾♂️
They were both bad , don't tell half the truth .
GILLBERG GILLBERG!!!
