- Second Saturday begins its 2017 season with a presentation by award-winning videographer Ric Mixer. Lake Erie's collection of shipwrecks range from the massive James Reed to the small schooners that are slowly sinking into the soft bottom of the Great Lake's smallest member.
Join Ric as he shows you what remains of the James Reed, and hear an exclusive interview with a man who survived the collision in the middle of the lake. He will also feature one of the most terrifying storms to hit the lake, on Black Friday of 1916. Four ships were lost and two captains were the only survivors of their ships.
Ric will share underwater video of the Merida, Colgate and Butters as well, and will showcase some of the wrecks off Point Pelee. This passage has an impressive collection of ships including the Michigan-built George Stone and Conemaugh. Ric's latest project is to record the remains of the tug Admiral, lost with its barge Cleveco in a storm in 1942.
