So basically once upon a time there was a saxophone that just knocked up every single brass and woodwind instrument and this guy found all the children.
Yes, the bass and contrabass aren't experimental saxophones, the bass is less common and the contrabass is very rare. A true experimental saxophone is the sub-contrabass saxophone. Check it on you-tube searching "Attilio Berni play J'elle Stainer subcontrabass saxophone".
I've also watched the version of this video with the subtitles. What a remarkable collection Attilio has, but what is really amazing is just how good he makes them all sound. The saxes at the extreme edges of the register must be very hard to play. I would love to see one of Attilio's concerts.
What a wonderful range of sounds from the amazing saxophone family. So much lung power must be needed for the bass and contrabass sax, which are amazing monsters. Great fun.
Hi, it's a Conn "O-Sax", one of the most rare and beatiful saxophone! His pitch in F and his range from low A to high G, made in 1928 by Conn Company. Bye
Attilio Berni i wish I had a conn-o sax. And a contrabass sax and contrabass clarinet. I play alto sax, Bb clarinet, bass clarinet, Contra Alto clarinet, euphonium, trombone.
Attilio, I really like what you are doing. I double myself and I can only imagine the reed troubles you must experience with all those horns and mouthpieces. Presenting your collection like that with such fine playing is a real service to sax knowledge. Bravo!
Yes, all the saxophones are part of my collection the wich include about 500 vintage saxophones, plus vintage toy-sax, original photos, mouthpieces, accessories, etc...
I purchased more of 7.000 vintage saxophones from 1993 to 2010 and these are from my private collection. They are in my studio and in my collection there are more of 500 vintage and high collectable and rare saxophones.
Hi, the second saxophone is one of most rare woodwind in the world. It's a saxorusophone made by the italian factory Bottali in the first years of '900. It's a non conical saxophone with a saxophone and a shape identical the saxophone but usually played witha double reed as the oboe. It has the double octave key and his mechanism is very very hard...
Hello! I thank you very much for you comment. I'll try to do a good arrangement for "Angel Eyes" and play it with my Conn Chu Berry tenor saxophone. Thanks again and ciao from Itlay :-)
Hello! The name of this unusual saxophone is "Mellosax" a hybrid instrument very similar to a slide saxophone but with a different system. There isn't a slide but a membrane that sliding along the saxophonel opens and closes a long side slit thus realizing a vibrating tube more or less long ...
There is a slide saxophone with a system very similar to a little trombone, that means a slide go up and down as ina trombone. His name is Reiffel & Husted slide saxophone. Also it is in my collection!
I thank you for the comment but the choice of the Saxophobia name is correct and accurate. Saxophobia is understood in the sense of irony and, beyond that, is the title of one of the most famous compositions of Rudy Wiedoeft: the great saxophone's virtuoso and King of the Vaudeville '20s. In this time start the saxophone's craze and have been built most of the instruments that played in my show. Bye...
This instrument is a saxorusophone, also called rothophone, made in Italy around the 1910. It's a sarrusophone with saxophone fingering. You can search on youtube my other video "Saxophobia Live con sottotitoli" the wich include the name of each saxophone...Bye Attilio Berni
Hello! This is a very rare and unusual instrument: it's a bass tarogato. A wooden instrument with a conical bore, a key system and a neck very very similar to a saxophone. It has the double octave key.
Hi, on youtube you can search "Saxophobia Live con sottotitoli" (in english means Saxophobia Live with subtitles). It's the same but with the name of each saxophone as subtitles. Bye!
Hi Michael, I thank you for your questions. Yes, every saxophone needs a very thorough study so that i can know its specific characteristics. It takes time but it is a study that gratifies and enriches artistically ...
! Blown A W A Y ! How did you find this WEIRD Sax - o - phones ! So many different personalities ! AMAZING ! Does somebody lends you a hand to set-up & Pak so much stuff? Made my Day !
hi, this is just amazing, loved every second of the video. are some of these saxophones custom made just for you? or just old instruments? and what is that exact model at 6:27 of the video? i liked it a lot, for some reason, greetings from mexico!!
No! Only the first is an original Adolphe Sax Father tenor saxophone. The other horns are made by other factories as Conn, Selmer, Buescher, King, martin, Lyon & Healy, etc...
what type of mouthpiece? that half muted sound would be cood for quintet ballads, im eagar to see some pricing. It must have taken you years to figure out and perfect a selection of wind instruments this huge... even if they all use basically the same mechanics
Wow! We're talking about this video on the forum SaxontheWeb. Would there be any chance you could redo the video with all the names of the saxophones you are playing on the screen?

Just curious, what's the instrument that looks like a double bassoon bocal bass clarinet, but sounds like a bari sax? It's from approximately 00:46 to 01:05
I think you said your tenor with what looks like a dark body and gold colored neck is called a "Cinn Chu Berry Tenor"? Well I was wondering if that's the one you used to play fourth right and if so what is the song that comes right after (which is the slower one) and another thing, who is that singer you're playing along with, what is she singing, and how did you do that and make it look so cool :D
I already posted another video on youtube that shows all the names of the saxophones. Search for "Saxophobia con sottotitotli" or check out all other videos on my youtube channel ...
Hi Attilio, is there anywhere on the internet I can get a list of all the repotoire in this amazing video? I'm setting up my own quartet and we're struggling to find pieces to play :)
