Universal's Legacy Store CLOSING & NEW YEAR Updates! Paper Maps, DreamWorks Land Construction & More

- Join me for a visit to Universal Orlando in the first week of 2024, as we look at some of what is going away forever and some of what is to come this year! Lots of Universal updates going on - from the Legacy Store closing, to DreamWorks Land being built, no more paper maps, to fun things going on in the park and LOTS MORE (also my first DJI Osmo Pocket 3 vlog)! We say goodbye to the Universal Legacy Store, this store opened in 2021, closed in 2024, and was dedicated to the very beginnings of Universal Studios Florida, the park's first years, first rides and attractions, and was filled with amazing ride props! We see how the store looks just days before it is scheduled to close, and talk about what the word on the street is as a possibility for this space in the future! We also visit Universal Studios and check out what's new and what's going on - including saying goodbye to paper park maps, DreamWorks Land Construction update, checking out dance parties and updates and more all over the park! P.S. this is my first vlog filmed on a DJI Osmo Pocket 3, let me know what you think of the new camera rig I'm trying out!
I honestly prefer the old camera setup and found this one to be distracting with how it moved on its own and the eye line didn’t quite match up but I appreciate you trying new things! Your positive energy and the adventures you take always bring a smile to my face, thanks Jackie!
I still cannot wait for Epic Universe! Since it is now 2024, all the new information, content, previews and such will help me plan more for my dream vacation (where I visit all four parks for the very first time ever) and work toward my goal of making it possible.

I’m super enthused about the vibrant colors and audio in this video. I hope paper maps return, they are a good free souvenir. I still have my Universal maps from the 90s.

So true, citywalk is so different from Disney springs. I’ve done the restaurants more as included with park vlogs in the past. But I’ll definitely show more of it!

We’re sad to see the Legacy shop go, but we know that the park has a way of preserving history with props and Easter eggs, so I’m sure we’ve not seen the last of these exhibits! Hopefully they’ll find a place for the Hogsmeade model somewhere in the parks or the resorts, too. WAY sadder to see paper maps go, tbh…we have been collecting paper maps for as long as we’ve been theme parking 🥲 Ah, well…the times, they are a-changin! Luckily we still have a stash of legacy maps at home haha love seeing the park during the (very short) in-between period before Mardi Gras starts spooling up. Just as you said, the classic movie soundtracks are quintessential Universal for us…and we get those loops so rarely now! 🥹 Crossing our fingers for a fun new nighttime spectacular in 2024. Camera and mic setup seems good to me, I’ve worked with those wireless mics before and they are very convenient. I’m going to Universal Florida for the very first time next Sunday and I can’t wait to finally experience it! AHHHHH!!

I really hope it turns Epic! So pumped for that park to open! The camera looks nice, I picked up the Pocket 3 in December, I’ve only used it once so far but I really liked it! It’s just so smooth, the imagine is real clear and wide enough for talking to. I haven’t tried the mic yet (I used internal and it was pretty good) but the mic sounds great!

New camera for 2024! I'm liking the sharp video quality of the Pocket 3. it seems like a handful of creators are switching to the Pocket 3, I see why! Definitely use this camera for a couple more vlogs to see how you like it before your return window expires!

I had taken pictures in the Legacy Store on 12/3/23 after the Orlando Informer event (we traveled from Peoria, IL). Some of the things I think that are gone are the small model of the ET ride vehicle, the pod from The Fly, Hagrid’s Motorbike and some props up above from The Mummy. Also noticed in your video there were some holiday t-shirts in Sahara Traders like Daphne and Velma with a skeleton saying Here we come a Caroling.

This store has awesome props and theming was on point. Terrible to see it go BUT Epic Universe is even more special so I think it’s a great idea to have a preview center! Can’t wait to see it.
So the store hasn’t even been open three years and it’s closing already… That’s so sad but I bet they’re making way for something new and cool. I don’t have any plans to come to Florida this year… I’m so sad, I do have a big trip coming up in October, so I’m saving all my money and PTO for that. Because of that I will live vicariously through you, Jackie! I really do want to go to Universal one of these days.
It's a shame they're getting rid of the legacy store. I really liked seeing all the props inside. I wish they'd do some sort of mini museum with movie and ride props since we don't have the west coast's backstage tours.

At first my wife thought you had changed your makeup a little, but then figured it might be a new camera. It looks good. Also noticed a difference in sound. Could definitely hear you clearer. So I think the whole rig is a good upgrade so far.

You are awesome looking for the sale signs! Totally what we do. The Legacy store had Terminator when we visited, we see it’s gone in your video. This store was our favorite since it opened sad to hear it is closing. We were there the very first day Universal Studios opened, so this store had merchandise and props that are near and dear to us😢
Totally, so many wonderful props that were marvelous to walk by and enjoy. It was almost like a little museum.
We loved this vlog! I’ve heard the rumors about the Legacy Store being converted to a preview center as well. I think I prefer the old camera (was it a G7X? we have one for home movies). The frame rate on the new one is a little jarring tbh, but the park looks great in that quality bump. I think it’s a good idea to have multiple rigs for different scenarios but having a consistent daily driver is nice. First time commenting but have been watching for four years, super thankful for your channel and our family loves watching. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback! So I tried 30fps for this, but have always used 60 in the past. I might try this new one in 60 and see if I like it better. I know that everyone who goes for the more “cinematic” look uses 24, but I like the “vlog” look of 60. Yes my old camera is the g7x. I love it but the quality just isn’t caught up with the times. It doesn’t look as clear on the big 4k tvs (which is what I watch RUclips on also). I will try to dial in the settings and adjust how I use this and give it a few more tries before I fully decide. I’ll also keep the g7x of course, but the g7x doesn’t do 4k, so I can’t mix the footage from both cameras into one vlog. It’s tough to find just the right thing. Hopefully the content of the videos matters more than the camera, but I still do want better quality and to learn to use this better. The park does look sooooooo good with the quality bump of the new camera, and everything is bright and clear! Thanks for commenting and chiming in on this, I really do appreciate it!

That all makes sense, and I definitely agree that the content of the video (which we love your videos, your enthusiasm, and your commentary, even if it was shot on a Motorola Razer we’d still watch! Haha) is more important than the resolution and fps. Excited to see future camera tests and what you end up with. :)

Out with the old and in with the new as they say. Guess like pretty much everywhere there needed to be some updates. I remember watching the E.T. movie and it certainly touched me. Hopefully those found a safe place to be for now.

There was one point where it appeared that someone was filming you - the camera was keeping you in the middle of the shot and the background was slightly moving, yet it seemed like you were on your own. 🙀It was amazing! I like the new camera. It looks nice. The other camera looked more classic. The one gripe I have with this new camera is in some of the shots it kinda looks like you aren’t looking directly at the camera but instead underneath it. It kind of threw me off. It was the first thing I noticed when I turned on the video. It was most noticeable in the intro and outro parts and the one part in the middle where you were standing in front of the gate. All in all no matter which one you use I love your content no matter what. Thank you for making these videos for us!
Thanks for the feedback! I went back to my regular camera, old faithful, as more people seem to prefer it and honestly it’s easier for me! I’m still thinking about it but I may return the new one and just keep my eye out for something better in the future.

Thanks Julie! It’s a tiny new camera that’s got 4k quality and just a lot of nice settings my old camera doesn’t have. I still want to improve a few things but I’m very happy with the overall look, brightness, quality and colors so far! I also want to turn the lavalier mic up a bit for next vid to make it even more clear!

I've seen video of the old IoA preview center from the 90's, it looked super elaborate. The rumored Epic Universe preview center hopefully will be as well, maybe even previewing some of the interactive features? At least we'll get "official" confirmation of the IPs coming (as if nerds like me didn't already know from 100s of videos about it lol). Look forward to your video!

Loving your vlogs always informative and entertaining. The new rig you used produced excellent sound, the vision didn’t seem any different. I’m with you, I wouldn’t want to be carrying round a big camera with additional lenses. Also people would be very aware of you filming and I think Disney are thinking of clamping down on vlogers being too intrusive. The clamp on microphone is good if you can continue to use it with the small camera.

Hey Jackie! Happy New Year! As always my wife and I loved your content.
With regard to your new camera/recording set-up; we liked the clarity and vibrance of the image quality, however, we felt that the sound quality was not as good as in your past videos (a bit muffled and tinny). Also, it seemed like you changed the way you typically position the camera; as if you are now further away and looking way up to the camera the whole time. I guess that change just seemed weird and different to us, as opposed to good or bad.
Once again Jackie, we are fans and always enjoy your videos. Please accept these criticisms as a friendly and honest response to your request for opinions from fans!🙂
Totally agree the audio, this is my first time using one of those mics so I changed it to be louder and clearer for next time. I’ve also never used a gimbal type thing so I also noticed the camera was like floating high 😂 so I made some adjustments to fix that next time too! I appreciate this feedback bc it does help me! I’ll keep dialing this in and use this new camera a few more times before I 100% decide. I have a few weeks to decide if I want to keep or return it. At the end of the day, the content of the video is more important than the camera, but I do want to have better quality. But if I do keep using this, I want to use it the best I can and fix the kinks. Thank u so much!!
Jackie - I absolutely loved this video!! Within the first few minutes, I told my husband you were using a different camera and that it looked crystal clear and beautiful. Thank you for clarifying at the end of the video that you were indeed trying something new. Is this the DJI Pocket 3? Love the work you do with the G7X. How much more difficult was it to film with the additional mic and edit? Please feel free to alternate between the two. But the quality of this video was stunning! Looking forward to more!!

Maybe it's just me, I looked at other comments, but I can't hear very well with your new setup. Yes hope they saved those props for something else! Always happy to see your videos though no matter what. I forgot about Mardi Gras, not a big thing here on the Calif. Central Coast but always fun to see. Happy New Year 😁😁
Hey the video is great but I think you need to check the frame rate there is definitely a setting on that which is giving a less smooth frame rate effect. I'm sure it's a quick fix but definitely look into it! My wife and I love your vlog thank you!
Is it only during the clips I put from the past (when I added clips of the old tribute store in the very beginning, bc those old clips didn’t match the frame rate so they look weird, which is why I used photos for the other examples). Bc the rest of the video looks totally smooth to me, and all the same, smooth frame rate. But it’s 24fps, so it’s the more “cinematic” with more natural motion blur. Rather than 60fps which I normally use? I’ll try a few different settings to see what works and looks best!
@@SuperEnthused I think it was all of the video I saw had a kind of "Strobing effect". 24fps should not be looking like what I see on my end, Should be very very smooth. From yr reply now I think it might be not your fps settings but possibly looks to me like shutter speed. Your previous videos are smooth way smooth, so when I was watching I noticed it big time. I'm changing my shutter speed on my cam and it does a similar thing (mine is at 1/40 and when I pull it down to 1/25 it does the similar result from yr video) I'm a RUclipsr as well but wildly different content (I do synths!) I hope this helps!!! Maybe not everyone would notice but I did because I work w videos all the time.

I think the Pocket 3 is a great camera and seems to be what a lot of people are switching to. Sound and image were both good! I spent the week between Christmas and New Years at Universal this year. Crazy busy, but so much fun and staying at the Hard Rock helped with Express Unlimited! I miss it so much. Thanks for the great coverage.
It’s funny, when I ordered it, no one was using it and I didn’t know anyone even knew about it. I would see people using the pocket 2 in the past and it looked like a weird little stick 😂 but I read a lot of good reviews on the new pocket 3, saw it had a bigger screen, and wanted to try it. It took forever to be shipped. I think the quality is really nice, just gotta get used to the gimbal. I was also using wide which I don’t think I need, so I’ll probably skip wide for next vid. It was so crazy busy during Christmas and New Years at the parks, Express is definitely the way to go during those times! And Hard Rock is just wonderful! Glad you got to enjoy it!

It took like 2 weeks to get it after I ordered it, and it kept getting delayed as I was supposed to get it before the new year! Well, I'll keep giving it a try for a bit and see if I can make it just how I want it.
4K Is the Way!
Excited for Epic Universe - especially the monsters section! That DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is something special. Been testing it out recently, as well. Quality is superior to a G7X. Only real trade off would be less of a zoom range (or lack there of). Great camera though! It’s a keeper. 👍🏻
