This is a gem of a superhero show that unfortunately is hidden to the general public who are more entranced by the mouse owned company. Also, lifting a very heavy hammer with a broken arm?.... Hmmmmmm! The hinting is strong.
Didn't Elizabeth Tulloch say that they'd only just been filming episode 8 when the long break started? David Ramsey was there, directing for episode 7, on March 14, which was two days before episode 4 aired. They might have been cutting it a little close, so they needed the break to catch up (and so the SFX team had more time to do effects).
Start of the episode, I considered that captain Luther, could be an alternative version of John Henry irons aka Steel. Did a fist pump, when his daughter was named Nat. The hammer was great and helps to wash away that piece of crap from Shaq.
Steel said do you trust him and she said with my life, he then said I thought you’d say that. That for him sealed the fact that he had to kill Superman because Lois was going out herself in jeopardy again by trusting Superman and he doesn’t want this Lois to die like his did
My friend told me a big reveal tonight. For some reason I immediately thought of Henry Irons and 90s Superman comics. I was correct! This show is setting the standard for WB comic shows.
This show… man, this show is GREAT! It fires on every cylinder, with great character moments and development. This whole Captain Luthor/Steel story is so well done in regards to subverting your expectations. And we still don’t know the whole story yet! Can’t wait to see where this goes!
The twist about John Henry was amazing. And now looking back, the clues where all there. A soldier, working for Lex Luthor as an Engineer. He pretty much laid out JHI's backstory. As for his powerset, he does get powers eventually...sort of. The suit starts as his creation but he is eventually gifted with an extradimensional suit of armor that acts more as a second skin that he can summon or make go away at will. I want to say he's given it by aliens that like Superman as he becomes included in the "Super Family" of those authorized to wear the House of El sigil.
Watching the gauntlet building scene, I kept thinking to myself how closely they resembled John & Nat and how in another universe that's who they'd have been cast as. Pleasant surprise a few scenes later.
When the daughter showed up, I was like "noooo, not a dead kid!" And I liked her so much in this episode too. Now I irrationally hope she's not already dead. 💔
1:42 The suit is nanotech, just like Flash and Kara's new ones. The self-repairing thing was featured in the pilot when he got stabbed with the Kryptonite dagger. Covid might've been the best thing to happen for the show in a sense, letting the show be its own self-contained thing for the season. Would've been fine if he'd stayed an Alt-Universe Luthor, anything is possible in the multiverse, but him being Steel is wild.
When Eric said "It's STEEEEL!" He reminds me of Tony Schiavone shouting "It's STIIIIING!" in WCW and AEW. The fact both have beards adds another layer.
The show threw in our faces with that revealed that Captain Luthor is actually John Henry Irons aka Steel and we never seen it coming. I think the CW show should file a trademark rights of Steel for Irons from another CW show in the Legends that Nate Heywood should not be called Steel to shorten from Citizen Steel, who Nate's code name should be called. Also, my theory is Earth Prime Superman helps Steel fight the evil Kal-El or evil Superman in Irons' own Earth like in the end of the Injustice game.
7:08 glad I'm not the only one 😂😂 It's not the fact that he picked up the van, it's the fact that he did it with such speed as if he just had a baton passed to him in a relay race or running and then picked up some shopping bags 😂
This episode was amazing, and I loved the difficulty shown when Jordan was trying to focus his superhearing, it goes to show how hard it is to focus on just one sound. I think Jonathan's save was an artistic choice but it was also a hint, due to how fast he caught Jordan's punch. I really hope to see an all-out Superman fight at the end of the season, like the Man of Steel type ending. I want Clark to flex his muscles a bit. I DIDN'T EVEN REALISE HE WAS STEEL!
And HE, Johnathan, STOPPED Jordan's punch also. Granted it broke his arm, but, if he didn't have any powers he would not have stopped that punch. Jordan would have punch right though it and hit the other guy in the face and probably fucked him up for life or killed him. I think people are forgetting that scene in the first episode where Johnathan, as a little boy, threw his football through the rope on that tire swing. I don't think they were just showcasing that he would be a good football player, but I think that they were showing that he does have powers.
That storyline you guys reffered to has actualy been animated too...DCAMU: Death Of Superman followed by Reign Of Supermen, you should continue the DCAMU They have some very cool stuff.
Since others has spoiled that The Stranger is John Henry Irons/Steel and NOT Luthor, I have been waiting years to see a live action Steel again. I hope he becomes Steel in show with new suit, cape, insignia, jet boots, new helmet, etc. Ramsay did awsome job directing, great writers, actors and effects. A wonderful 8 episodes so far. Best CW show so far. Hopefully we see Superboy, Supergirl, Eradicator, Cyborg Superman, Conduit, Mongul, and others in future episodes or seasons. Would be epic but just a hope that may not happen.
I have a theory. Think back to Derek Powell. When he got his powers, he also thought that he was someone else. He said he was resurrected. He even knew Superman's Kryptonian name. If Morgan Edge is somehow putting Kryptonian minds (their consciousness) into human heads, maybe that's what happend to "Evil Superman". Maybe he wasn't really evil, maybe he was possessed by another consciousness. What do you think of that?
That what I also think, and it's the theory I would like the most. Also what clark said about derek "he was already dead" or something like that, and the flashback from John's universe "what is superman doing?" Hints that not something expected from superman, maybe that was the very beginning of him turning evil. And maybe the "who is he with?" are the 5 candidates Morgan was looking for
16:13 or his world could've been erased from existence by the crisis. If that's the case, then either his world and his daughter no longer exist, or the rebirth of his world when Oliver restarted the multi-verse no longer has a superman gone rogue. In any case, that would make him one of the few doppelgängers that has managed to survive being stuck on Earth prime. And because his doppelgänger is dead there's no chance of the same mental deterioration that Beth and Alice suffered on bat woman before Alice killed her doppelgänger. I had to admit this is a very interesting take on steel. From a guy who owes superman his life to a guy who wants to take revenge on Superman for destroying his life. Somehow I feel that even if John eventually comes around and sees that Clark is not the same superman that betrayed his earth, going forward it will be difficult for him to trust a man wearing the face of his wife's killer.
36:35 YES! like look at their Jersey numbers.. Jordon is #24, Jon is #12, exactly half... ever sense first football scene, I have been wondering if these numbers had any significance... so thank you for mentioning this!!!
Next great reveal... the glasses have Kryptonian technology that masks the Aura of perfection dripping off Superman, theyre like window tint for everyone looking at him... especially with the way black lightning’s power works in masking his face and voice, they NEED to make this happen as a grounded effort to keep it 100
Really never liked watching evil Superman. Wish I knew more about the Steel character to appreciate the reveal but still a great ep. Tyler H just nails this role. I hate to say this but he’s even better than Henry Cavill. Granted Cavill didn’t have the huge side of Clark Kent to portray and Tyler is absolutely nailing that part. Your comments on the way shows need to improve their writing, like they’re doing here, are spot ON.
He's seems kind of different than who he was when he first appeared as just a man in the suit. He seemed to be wining in his fight against superman for the most part and he straight up risked innocent people's lives at that power plant earlier in the season. People go too far for revenge though I guess.
This episode was amazing. The only thing that slightly bothered me (and this is just a nit pick), was how they used Red Sun Solar Radiation here. Being exposed to those red lights shouldn't have immediately made Superman weak. The way it works is that Superman, is like a battery that holds onto solar energy, but the energy from a Red Son (aka the energy from those red lights) is too weak to give him any powers. So Superman should have still had his powers, but as he fought, he'd get weaker and weaker as he used them up, until he was basically an ordinary human being. But again, it's jut a nit pick. That plot twist/reveal of John Henry Irons was incredible.
Did anyone else notice that when John got super angry and emotional ,it triggered Jordan. Like almost weakened him. What if, John is his counterpart. Remember in 1x06, the punch by Jordan would have shattered a regular person entire arm but John essentially stopped and was quick as well. We see Jordan being strong but not quick. In addition, remeber how he was able to grab the hammer with BOTH hands (a day before he basically broke his arm) and was able to kinda throw it at the solar panel. I think John has powers that will counter his brothers but needs an emotional trigger to trigger them. I would love to know what people think.
It reminds me of the reveal of Marian Manhunter from Supergirl. You’re lead to believe he’s Hank Henshaw, and then it’s switched. Although admittedly it is different cause he was Hank at one point. But still similarities. Especially with both Hank and Steel being involved with the same storyline in the comics. That being said, I absolutely loved the reveal. Especially because although he is technically a villain in the show, he is a hero from his perspective and I think he will become a true hero before the show is done.
Superman and Lois just comes down to the writing being better. I get what Aaron means on the pods/stories arcs can help improve a series like the Flash, but again that only works if the writing is there. Last year Flash did two pods and they still stretched out Mirror Mistress storyline and the writing wasn’t as solid as the first half. The reason it worked so well for a show like Agents of Shield is because the writers knew what they wanted to do and kept the story arcs going organically and feel like stories are separate but connected and they filled out like a 20-22 episode season without feeling like things were stretched too far or the characters were static. Flash’s problem is it has good ideas, but the execution can be shaky and the characters don’t have a real footing. A show like Superman and Lois so far the characters have a footing and feel like they are more real people and that there is a story going on even if they do not do a lot of superhero things. Flash feels like the writers struggle to fill out a 45 minute episode length in time.
When the characters started speculating about Irons being the kid of Lex my head begun to hurt trying to figure out when this takes place in relation to the rest of the arrowverse.

Just glad that the main villain of this show isn't actually an alternate version of Lex Luthor. Like, if they want to do Lex Luthor on Superman & Lois, they NEED to bring in Jon Cryer because he's technically Clark's Lex Luthor from Earth-38
Not hating on my other CW shows but this and Stargirl definitely seem to have better quality and effects compared to the rest.
And the CW is trash for making that a thing. However stargirl premiered on HBO Max.
@@chelle4757 Superman and Lois also have HBO Max money on it. Truth be told this should be the new minimum for DC series when we have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ putting a lot of money into superhero shows.
@@GattsBerserkArmor Pretty much. They did some of these cw heroes wrong with the writing and effects. They have their audience wrong. HBO would have done right by black lightening, like they did watchmen.
@@matthewgoldberg3333 imagine a Batman show with this writing would be amazing and effects
Yeah!
This and Stargirl seems to be on another level.
Although, I think Stargirl needs a little better writing. It's so close to being a perfect show. I hope they resolve that for next season.
This is a gem of a superhero show that unfortunately is hidden to the general public who are more entranced by the mouse owned company.
Also, lifting a very heavy hammer with a broken arm?.... Hmmmmmm! The hinting is strong.
This episode was fucking 10/10. I love this show so much.
Eric: "He's Shaq?"
Me: "Yeah, baby!"
That's actually Monument Rocks in Kansas, pretty cool place.
Also I’m pretty sure David Ramsey the guy who played Diggle on Arrow is the one who directed this episode. So props to him that reveal was amazing!
This show is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
This version of Steel has his own homemade Mjolnir
Have you noticed the Morgan Edge woman with powers is dressed similarly to Zod and company from Superman II?
That Steel Twist.... HOOOLYYY This show has Taken First Place for me
I was surprised about Luthor's actual identity, glad they put the hammer it seems very strong
YYYYYYYEEEEEESSSSS!!!! Did not see that coming! Steel!
The twist was in the tittle and I was still very shock about the reveal
The music of John and his girl building the suit was BOSS
I love how the twins saved their dad for a change
When Eric said "It's STEEEEL!"
He reminds me of Tony Schiavone shouting "It's STIIIIING!" in WCW and AEW.
7:08 glad I'm not the only one 😂😂
It's not the fact that he picked up the van, it's the fact that he did it with such speed as if he just had a baton passed to him in a relay race or running and then picked up some shopping bags 😂
Great reaction! I loved the glasses gag and really enjoy your comparisons to Flash right now.
That twist came out of nowhere Freaking Steel Is The one trying kill Superman and The freaking Hammer Amazing!
your reactions never dissapoint you literally felt all the emotions during this episode
I have not felt as much hype as I did when that steel reveal happened
I like how it teases that its not Luther by having the AI also recognize clark as Luther
That reval was crazy
And maybe the "who is he with?" are the 5 candidates Morgan was looking for
Damn, The Hammer flew and it clicked at the Moment, whait that Name and the Hammer... OMG
I....LOVE....THIS....FUCKING.....SHOW
36:35 YES! like look at their Jersey numbers.. Jordon is #24, Jon is #12, exactly half... ever sense first football scene, I have been wondering if these numbers had any significance... so thank you for mentioning this!!!
And what's that supposed to mean?
the episode was directed by David Ramsay aka JOHN DIGGLE
Bro really?
@@Adventuresundead302 yup
FUCKING STEEL! I fucking jumped from my seat with this reveal, holy shit! 😂
Honestly I really love this Lois. She's actually my favourite one. Erica is in my heart but I like this one alot
Next great reveal... the glasses have Kryptonian technology that masks the Aura of perfection dripping off Superman, theyre like window tint for everyone looking at him... especially with the way black lightning’s power works in masking his face and voice, they NEED to make this happen as a grounded effort to keep it 100
I like this development. I wasn't really excited about this whole captain Luthor thing so I'm glad he's actually Steel.
The lumps of flesh convo is gold
No offense to Clark or Nate, but the real Man of STEEL is here. Hell Yeah!!!
The title of 'Man of Steel' belonged to Clark first
This show doesn’t miss
Thanks, Eric! Thanks, Aaron! 🦸🏽♂️
This was uploaded literally two minutes after I finished the episode. Talk about timing
Superman & Lois is the best thing CW put out since The Flash Season 1
im loving these reactions!! pls keep them coming :)
Every week this show does not disappoint.
10:07 these are the type of reactions I live for lol
He's seems kind of different than who he was when he first appeared as just a man in the suit. He seemed to be wining in his fight against superman for the most part and he straight up risked innocent people's lives at that power plant earlier in the season. People go too far for revenge though I guess.
The coincidence that I've been listening to Paul Robeson's version of the ballad of John Henry on repeat for weeks before this episode ...
I know right they always make it seem like a weakness when it just takes powers away it.
Not exactly, bc if he was totally without the powers he would die with those hammer attacks
I’ve been waiting forever for you to realize he is STEEL!!!!
Steel has come and it is good
It reminds me of the reveal of Marian Manhunter from Supergirl.
"My Manly Lumps" lmao
Why are we saying they're seizures it's CLEARLY his super hearing coming through lmao
What an episode
Yes, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had fantastic writing overall.
When the characters started speculating about Irons being the kid of Lex my head begun to hurt trying to figure out when this takes place in relation to the rest of the arrowverse.
Why does everybody think Luthor knew Clark was Superman.
I always knew he didn't know
JOHN HENRY IRONS!!!!!! STEEL IS HERE!!! HOLY SHIT
