RailDriver - not as good as it should be

  • My RailDriver hasn't had much use, not even been plugged in for maybe 5 years, because it has a few flaws. Here I show the issues I have with it, and why I just find it easier to use the keyboard. To demonstrate the issues I attempt to calibrate it in Run 8 Version 3, then go for a short run over Cajon pass. Oh, I couldn't resist letting Cyberlink PowerDirector create subtitles, because I find them amusing, my apologies to anyone who wanted them to make some sort of sense!
Finally, I had issues synchronising the sound in the second half of the video between the game and the camcorder recording with my voice, so you will hear the sound change as I muted the game sound.

It’s still so sad that there’s no proper train simming gear out there like there is flight sim gear, even FARMING SIMULATION gear, but no one wants to make train simming gear it seems

When walking turn your torch/lamp on with L key or cab lights with same key, L. You could always read the manual and try to remember what keys do what.
Your controller is begging to have some work done under the hood. The internal sensors could use a spray with some electronic component cleaner. Your throttle acts like it has a dirty potentiometer or encoder. Open up the Raildriver and check the spring on the brake lever; it may have let go one end but it definitely needs some sort of adjustment.
Yes, it cost a lot and yes, it should be better than handling like a child's toy, but there are some things you can do to make it better; you just gotta be a bit handy fiddling with the innards. Be prepared to try things. Else sell it to someone who will use it and not store it away for 5 years. Seriously.
By the way, why has your video got forced subtitles enabled? Not only is it annoying having them in my face but the spelling of many words are next level bad. Little wonder your view count is so low. I'm interested in your video but a title similar to:
    Calibration issues with my Raildriver
. . . or similar may have got you more views but people NOt fixing things generally do poorly.
For correct throttle calibration see this video 7min8sec in:

    Cheers from down under.
