Lore was only good while it was carried by the loose ends of Warcraft 3.
The only really good lore that has come out of WoW, I would say, is the original Ashbringer lore.
Hopefully they do something with it if Classic+ comes out.

Ye OG Ashrbinger lore is really good, although it was again from external source, which is unfortunate. I'd say there is still a ton of ppl who don't even know it exists.
When it comes to classic+ i am kinda worried, if it will be gameplay focused then it could be alright, seeing as majority of changes to wotlk were really good, but i doubt any good story will come out of it so.

The lore is trash. Warcraft = Orcs vs. Humans. That is the entire point of the series. It's a Game of Thrones faction war like Warhammer 40k and Battletech. It's like the Chinese warring states period the "Three Kingdoms" and the Japanese warring states period the "Sengoku Jidai."
Big Bad Evil guys are stupid because there are no stakes. How are there no stakes? Because we know they have to lose.
Illidan isn't going to conquer Outland.
Arthas isn't going to turn everyone undead.
    Deathwing can't destroy the world.
The Iron Horde won't conquer Azeroth.
The Burning Legion can't conquer Azeroth.
    N'Zoth can't corrupt Azeroth.
It's not unique to Warcraft either. Cell couldn't destroy Earth in Dragon Ball Z because the story would be over. Buu can't succeed in exterminating all humans because the story would be over. The stakes are TOO high to be believable.
But faction wars? You can lose parts of your faction, your heroes, suffer terrible losses without being knocked out of the fight.
This is how Warhammer 40,000 does things, and it's popular to this very day despite having the same fundamental story since the 1980s.
Battletech is the same. It has the same fundamental story since the 1980s, and yet people still love it. Some factions can have half of their entire territory conquered. They can suffer terrible losses. Heroes can die. Leaders can perish, and that's what makes it dramatic. That's why people are invested.
There is no investment in Big Bads because they HAVE to lose.
The only story that is worthwhile is Orcs vs. Humans racial faction wars. That is what makes Warcraft good. People want to join a faction and fight against other player factions in bitter conflicts for supremacy.
It's a tale as old as time. It's our own human history which is why it's RELATABLE.

I totally agree, unfotunatelly when it came to faction war in bfa, they just didn't executed properly, otherwise BFA could be good. But unfortunatelly they butchered a bunch of things that even didn't belong to intial premise of bfa such as N'zoth and Azshara. BFA feels like its 2 expansions in one afterall..
Also they had opportunity to do the whole reset with Jailer winning, but they didn't go with it and so I gotta agree with you that its the same cartoonish story.
