Well, that was such a good review, and I agree with almost everything.
It was watchable, but the finale was a real let down on so many levels. There are too many discrepancies with the Star Trek universe (I doubt the writers watched them), and zillion percent agree about JL. That was annoying beyond belief.
However, nostalgia is a powerful thing, and my favourite episode was like you and for more or less the same reasons. I would give it 6-6.5, but without nostalgia probably 5.
I will not watch a seond series if they do it.

There is so much lesbian sex on TV that you have to wonder about the agenda. For myself, no thanks.

    I was disappointed too.
It's more Games of Thrones in space with a Star Trek skin. Too much lazy writing, unecessary plots, deus ex machina...
And B-4 still exists !!, so if Data could live again from a single positronic neuron......where is the matter ????

They just shoved B-4 in a drawer! 🤣 I like your GOT in space comparison too. Thanks for checking out my review ✌🏻

Good review, Lave. Basically, I share your perspective on this show. It's flawed, but I still enjoyed it. I was hoping that Seven would resurrect the Borg cube for an epic showdown with the Romulans. The darker vision of the future didn't bother me at all, but then I read a lot of SF. You should try watching Alex Garland's Devs - very cerebral, very well written and directed.

See that is what I don't get when fans give this show a positive review. "The darker tone doesn't bother me." But then it's not star trek! This is the one thing that set star trek apart from other generic sci fi. It envisioned a bright, positive future for humanity. By dropping this, you lose the core of what made trek trek. So this show fails to be trek at its core! So how can it be a good trek show of it fails so miserably at the one thing that made star trek star trek.
In my opinion people go WAY to easy on this show, simply because of all the nostalgia and member berries.
And if you like dystopian, dark sci fi, watch something else then. As you say yourself, both in literature and on TV there's tons and tons of dark dystopian sci fi. The positive sci fi is hard to find and trek was the shining light in this! But now they destroyed that too...
Even besides a other things I absolutely hate about this show (and STD too), this one thing alone is enough for me to absolutely hate this show. Betraying the core of what trek stood for is unredeemable in my opinion...
I just don't get how a trek fan can like a show that destroys everything trek stood for.
Sorry to get rambly, but this show and STD piss me of. 😉
