Great videos easy to follow, explained very well and easy to understand. As i have just purchased HP z800 i shall be following all your videos with interest
I was wondering if you could RAID0 different hard drive? every video ive seem they always take identical hardrive. what happen if i take different brand and size HD and created a RAID0 with it? Would it be faster with a 6 Gbit/s PCI controler card?
If you mean could you use the SSD in the RAID 0 configuration then you''d be wasting your time - the SSD CAN be used with three HDDS but there is no real gain in speed. Also the SSD cannot be seperated from the RAID configuration once it is created - it becomes a single drive for all intents and purposes. If you mean can you use 3 HDDs as a RAID 0 with the SSD outside the RAID configuration then yes, you can. In that case you would simply create a RAID 0 using just the 3 HDDS. I hope this helps you - if you have any other questions I'll be happy to answer them.
If i set the raid 0 with the disks already separated in partitions will i lose the files on the partitions? By the way thanks for sharing your knowledge and time.
Great video. Could you please test a RAID5 setup instead of a RAID0 (stripe with NO redundancy). If just one drive fails in the RAID0 array all your data is gone. Please compare speeds of both array types in another video. You could also try/test 2 large SATA drives in RAID1 (Mirror = Redundancy) and 2 small fast SAS (10-15k rpm) drives in a RAID0 (Stripe for but no redundancy).
Thanks very much for your interest and that's a good idea, but I can say now that the RAID0 would be the fastest because RAID1 is, in effect, just a single drive running at a single drive speed and the mirroring would add a small overhead to that. I acually wanted to run some drives in a RAID5 configuration but unfortunately it is not supported in either the RAID card built into the Z800 nor in Windows software RAID.

Thanks very much, the Z800 is a really great machine.

can you install hdd in those slots and not use raid? will they just show up if they are formatted or will it not read anything if its not in raid?
Superb
Thanks very much, I'm glad you like it.
Hello could I use a one SSD Drive,And Three HDD will it still have the same outcome what’s your thoughts please.obviously the SSD is the os boot up

Yes you would lose everything so if you wanted to do it you'd have to backup all the files first.
Waauw i updated bios to enable VT-x
Now i can't get into the raid menu

there is no option for me to do this
