the synthesizer that changed everything

- I crawl back to my memories, there is a tiny claustrophobic space there... and this synth was hiding, the Yamaha Mu 15 was my very first touch with synths, more than 600 sounds, 21 drumkits, built in effects... is this a vaporwave holy grail? lol
My step brother had a really horrible "keyboard" toy which i now understand is a essentially a synthesizer. It had some preset instruments and even tracks you could play. I played so nuch with it, that everyone else got annoyed. So I ended up playing in a closet alone.
Maybe its time to find this toy again and revive part of my childhood.
lol this is mad. I started off with a MU15, Zoom Sampletrak and DR5 drum machine back in the ass end of the 90s while at art school. I still have them all. Never thought I'd see a MU15 being used again 👍
its great gear you have, go and make beautiful things
@@Lonershy It is and I've never stopped 🤩
ROMplers absolutely KILL at making chill late 80's/early 90's sounds.
For me it was the QY20. It is very similar and we used it as our main sequencer for many albums. We would play along with it on other synths and electric guitar. Great stuff.
yes, they are amazing, quite underrated i think
Love this! Years ago I got and then sold a QY-70. But recently imported the QY-100 from Japan, and I have QY in my life again :)
thise are amazing
I owned ca 25 synths....my biggest regret is selling my QY 100 I bought from England (when they were in the EU)...I fixed the QY 100, bought a Smart Card, a reader, and a net-adapter for it....and then I didn't use it much, sold it...before I discovered how useful it could be, especially after I tested my tablet and phone, none of them can handle Midi, after the Android updates, the Midi settings disappeared, to my dismay. Before that it took months to sell the QY 100 with everything, dirt cheaply, around 130 USD (1300 Swedish crowns)...the worst mistake in my synth-life...and I don't regret selling my Yamaha FS1R, also cheaply, a long time ago. Also, it's hard to import from Japan after Ebay started to take VAT themselves, the Swedish Custom doesn't know about that and they also would take 24 % VAT...grrrrrr
I am gonna' have nightmares about that tiny storage space now...
hahaha, i spent a lot of time there
Very cool video! I had some questions about the MU15. I understand that is uses GM sounds & certain parameters can be edited such as the attack & release. Is it possible to save these edited sounds or does the unit wipe itself clean every time it is powered off? Thank you for your time
Vintage Yamaha gear is fantastic, love their multitrack recorders and sequencers
yes, they are amazing
I got new gear, but still miss the Commodore 64 days with it's little subtractive synth the 6581 SID. So been shopping around for various subtractive synthesizers. I want something with knobs for everything, that's perfect for exploring for new sounds. Not to diss my MODX+, though that thing is amazing and powerful. It's just that menu diving and sound creation don't mix for me. Yeah the C64 and SID, was worse than menu diving, often POKE'ing registers to make changes, sometimes even having to write little IRQ routines in machine code just to get something like an LFO going. But FM and FM-X on the MODX+ just aren't as intutive as having specific waveforms and filters.
GREAT intro!!!!!....You got another Sub!!!!!
Stoked to hear what else you make with it.
more coming soon haha
BEAUTIFUL
this is so handy for those cheesy MIDI sounds on the go!
It amazes me that we don't have more of these on the market these days. I mean, are there any synths on the market now that can do what these do?
i dont know of anything like that really, better things or different ones, i dont know haha
Because you can do much more with a free DAW and free vst synths
Except those aren't really portable. Even a laptop is a bit clunky to carry around for music, especially while traveling.
can't believe it. I feel like I NEED one of those RN.
i really thought about you when i found it hahaha, the type of bahia conejo thingy lol
@@Lonershy you're completely right
Thanks for sharing that Story. Cool Beat at the end. 👍
thanks
Super vidéo, really enjoyed hearing how you’re using this VCR cassette sized vintage synth! But what’s that isometric controller you’re using on the iPad? Looks ace.
hey thanks! dont have the ipad r now, i dont remember the name but i guess you can find it looking for some omnichord inspired apps, its one where you have 2 separate midi channels, one for chords and one for notes within their scales... really cool
@@Lonershy I really like these sorts of controllers, they open up new ideas and strumming is not so natural, even for a good pianist.
The app is Chordion, a nice and simple app.
@@MrBoxelder Thanks, got it - works nicely!
I love how much time and energy you put into you videos, camera angles, editing, sound design.......etc.......
this channel is a blessing for us creatives
True - so constantly inspiring and unpredictable.....
oh shit ithank you so much
omg thank you
XD so many gems buried on those forgotten junk rooms
oh man, you cant imagine, family shit for over 2 decades
Such a tiny workstation!
Amazing Video!
thank you!
I want one just for the string sounds!
they are great!!!
@@Lonershy I bought one from Japan!
I still have my Yamaha SU10 sampler… great line of products that most people overlooked at the time
had it for 2 years and sold it, now i regret it
@@Lonershy
You know I have owned a whole bunch of really good samplers over the years and for some reason that one will never leave my possession… it has something to do with its lo-fi sound that I just have never been able to find in any other product… even with its limitations it just sits perfectly in any mix
Is it 12 or 16bit?
Dope helmet
I have something much more advanced: the MU 5! lol
I use it as a micro keyboard.
thats great, hahaha
Sehr schönes Video
danke!
This is not one of the favorite sampler of Bjork??
Namaste Haribol Asewe
i think you refer to su10
Is it basically like a QY 10?
the qy10 has a sequencer, this not... you need to sequence/play externally
@@Lonershy aha ok i see.
It can be played with a midi controller?
