Do you agree with Colin?
The Herd with Colin Cowherd yes, Steelers r a sloppy, dysfunctional, unbuttoned mess and when ever they face the Pats they always take the L. The rule is bogus, confusing and asinine, THAT WAS A CATCH & A TD!!! And Big Ben acting like an idiot and that bogus rule costed the Steelers the Super Bowl, #1 seed and home AFC Champ. Game
I agree on the catch and the touchdown scenario
The Herd with Colin Cowherd
The Patriots are CLEARLY in the Steelers heads.. they didn’t even want to go to overtime because they knew they weren’t winning that game.
Being a pats fan, I'm incredibly biased so hearing him talk about the Patriots being dominant makes me want to agree with him lmao
But anyways, what did we expect? At the end of the day, Tom Brady is still Tom Brady, the system always works, and the Steelers lose once again.
The Herd with Colin Cowherd l
Steelers had 28 seconds left while down by 3 points....
Atlanta blew a 28-3 lead
Caelan Bibby Lol comment of the day
Caelan Bibby I think it was 29....
In the red zone-to add. Smh.
Caelan Bibby lol
Oh my god...the earth _is_ flat! I knew it!
No divorce analogy? Dislike
Hilarious

I care about how you land...when i'm on the plane. Nice one Colin i chuckled 😂😂
I laughed
I'm so sick of this Julio jones ad..
yes me too every F time
Thats amazing how patriots prepare! So much details. I love how colin explains. He has the best anologies. Hope to meet in in person one day. Big fan
Everyone is talking about the catch , but there were two plays afterwards. They still had a chances . But they weren’t prepared. I agree 💯
Nhan Ha because we wouldn't be having the discussion of the next plays if they counted the touchdown does that make sense........
Bobby Johnson It’s really too bad that the refs are competent and that the Steelers choke
Lol steelers choke? Patriots were 10-1 to win that game, and lost Brown and Connor during the game also.
Football is a game of inches. Hard for a team to have to go out there and score twice.
Iirc the Patriots won, then the rest of that stuff doesn’t really matter.
This was the best game I’ve seen alll year
Rawinder Singh obviously you didn’t watch the Ravens-Steelers game or the Rams-49ers game or the Titans-49ers game or the Falcons-Saints game, etc.
Forget Seahawks not running on the 1 yard line...Steelers decided to throw a slant in a crowded endzone
The Patriot way!
Do your job!
Dez caught it. Romo deserves a ring.
Romo absolutely deserves a gold jacket.
Bellichic got into the steelers coaches heads . They didn't want to go into overtime thinking they would lose and so the play is intercepted and game over . Coach bill
This "system" your referring to is entirely reliant on having the best player ever to bail them out time and time again though.
My kind of system
Devin McCourty but Brady isn’t the best player ever
Yes he is old man
Devin McCourty The system went 11-5 without Brady
11-5 with a 16-0 team!!!
Brady would have gone to the playoffs that year and could have won the SB with that team ... That offense is considered one of the best in history, so going 11-5 with that, was TERRIBLE.
GO PATRIOTS!!!!
41/2 minutes for the steelers to prepare for the next play and they didnt do it!..thats whats mind bogglin to me!...all that time..they were standing around witing on the replay!...tomlin does lack clutch coaching sometimes against good teams
NE has the best QB/Coach combo of all time weather we like it or not
The rules was made back in 1999. Some people want to change the rules for their own advantage.
Colin is 100% correct about Pittsburgh here. Nuff said. This is why they will underachieve yet again this season.
Funny that when the Pats win we dont get any divorce analogies XD
PhilosopherKing
Where would one be used at?
He uses divorce analogies when players split from other players or their teams... like when Peyton Manning goes to Denver or when LeBron leaves Miami/Cleveland or when Kyrie leaves LeBron...
How does a win=divorce analogy?
i enjoy watching the Steeler, they are my 2nd favorite, the Pats been #1. i agree with Colin, the Past years, i have seen a separation between Big Ben and Tomlin.
Why is he talking about the REF'S call? The real problem is going for 6 instead of 3! POOR COACHING!
Aye y’all know the eminem album trash right?
Wouldn't shock me.
7:13 Rodney Harrison killed Big Ben for his BS response last night on FNIA
Jai Shields I saw that. He said Big Ben was lying about the play call fiasco. 😂
We're literally watching the best dynasty in history lead by the greatest quarterback of all time and the greatest coach of all time. Brady was reading the defense and making calls on the line and they dominated the Steelers in the last quarter. The Pats play chess and everyone else is playing checkers.
Jason checkers is more fun
Bahahaha more like a safety shouldn’t be on a 6’7 tight end. Steelers were robbed of that game. Fact.
Reading the defense? All he did was toss if to a giant freak of nature being covered by dudes half his size.
what was they playing when they lost to nyg in those two superbowls?
Piix Dot they good didn't want them to win... God said be humble... Sit Down
I agree
Run a business the way New England runs its football team.
TEAM FIRST. DO YOUR JOB. NO DAYS OFF. COMPLIMENTARY FOOTBALL. ALL 3 PHASES. NEXT MAN UP. IGNORE THE NOISE. DON'T WANNA TAKE A HOMETOWN DISCOUNT? SEE YA LATER! 😂😂😂

The refs ruled in favor of the Steelers. However, the refs were overruled by the NFL's Replay Command Center in New York who actually makes the decision on these critical replays. And, the replay officials in NY made the correct ruling based upon how the catch rules are outlined. People like you have so many opinions but so very few facts.
He seemed to make two separate actions if tucking the ball then making an effort to turn and reach. Should have been a TD. Steelers were the better team yesterday. I think they can win in NE when AB and Haden are playing.
Lmao you’re delusional. Patriots have so many players injured and we still didn’t lose. We lost hogan,Edelman, Hightower, and one our best pash rushers to injury. Plus our offensive line is riddled with injury’s. Steelers lost two guys and still couldn’t beat us.
Futbaker 14 Antonio Brown.. Joe Haden... Ryan Shazier... Best offensive and 2 best defensive players.. You can't even try and justify the Patriots losses compared to that..
Inside The Stands The problem is that the Steelers and all their fans have been talking about the week 15 game as being the decisive factor for the playoffs. According to them, the Steelers needed that # 1 seed to ensure the AFC Championship was played in Pittsburgh. The importance level of the game has been stressed all season.
Now the Patriots have the # 1 seed, and that home field advantage suddenly means nothing to the Steelers? Not buying it.
Inside The Stands Antonio=Edelman Hogan, Mitchell. Shazier=Hightower. Joe Haden= Branch Van noy
Inside The Stands if you are standing yes, but if you are falling down no. No catch.
The Steelers can thank Calvin Johnson for why that was overturned
Now completing the catch in the field of play is different yea complete the procees of the catch ,but catching the ball with control and breaking the goal is a touchdown period
the pats didn't call a timeout against seattle during the goal line stand. they let the clock bleed there, too.
6:15 MY MIND IS BLOWN!! It's common sense to defer if you win the toss. Homes teams do it nearly every game.. It is how football has always been, you always defer except in rare occasions.
the Calvin Johnson rule says no touchdown, simple rules, he had possession of the ball, made a football move therefore became a runner then the ball crossed the goal line. Two rules with opposite results, yet both are valid
Good call,bad rule
It’s not a “goofy new rule” - it’s been there for nearly 20 years.
Im a Steelers fan. Big time. And i agree with him. Sheesh.
I actually agree
If he had fumbled just before reaching for the end zone, it would also have been ruled an incomplete pass. The rule is in the rule book, and the officials have to go with what the rules are. The eye test says it was a catch, but it wasn’t by rule interpretation. Must maintain possession in the process of going to the ground. The tricky part to me is, how long does the receiver need to control the ball so going to the ground is irrelevant. 3 steps? 2 seconds with the ball secured?
they should just remove the whole process of the catch football move rule altogether and just have a sort of timer, if he has the ball secured (meaning it's not moving or bouncing around) in his hands or just one hand for, let's say a second (or two maybe), it's a catch and be done with it. Make it a straightforward rule
Steeler fan here that a lot of times doesn't like Cowherd. I agree with everything he says here.
Refs was consistent. Calvin Johnson & Dez Bryant "catch" = "no catch". #JesseJames
To quote an Irish commentator on Gaelic Football but his comments are apt here, "All things being equal, the best system will triumph. It will beat superior players." When you have a process that is nearly indiscriminate as to whom can be put in versus the quality and quantity of the things that come out, you have a process that succeeds more often that not. And individual brilliance, over time, will NEVER TRUMP SYSTEMIC EXCELLENCE. EVER. That's why the Patriot Way (and to a lesser extent, the Alabama Way, though I hate to say it) will be the standard going forward for those who want to WIN WHEN IT MATTERS. Period.
The problem with his augment is that a receiver can only have possession AFTER he completes the catch. That's the point the rule. To make the definition of a catch black and white instead of a subjective idea of a catch
I'm pretty sure that coin toss thing is false but i could be wrong.. the reasoning that i've heard behind this for years has been that Bellicheck loves the idea of having the chance to score right before half and then right after half allowing the team to essentially have two straight offensive possessions.. then again maybe both could be reasons contributing towards his decision to doing this
This happened to Dez Bryant last season just his was on the one yard line
I think Skip & Colin got it right about the Pats culture. Bill is calm, cool and collective and I think it trickles down to the players. The believe in their coach and believe in each other. Pats offensive line is woeful. Not much talent at all. But I see that they pick up the blitz and are in the right position. They may get overpowered but Bill makes sure they are coached up.
What about needing to get two feet down? If you agree with needing two feet down.. then you defeat your own argument, because the concept of two feet shows a measure of control. If you need to show control for that, then you need to show control at all times. In this case, control means if you take no steps and your feet aren't in the end zone then you need to demonstrate control.
Yes yes pats own the streelers lol
I feel like the Heyward-Bey catch shouldn't have been a completion if the James one wasn't.. He lost the ball when he hit the ground and didn't take too many steps.
SWIM IN THE KAY-HOS, SHITTSBURGH! 😂
Don’t get me wrong I think going into this game the pats would edge the Steelers( coming form a Steelers fan) but once we get Haden back our corners won’t allow teams to do what they’ve been doing to us in the past 5 weeks and chuck the ball cause we can’t cover their wideouts and ab was missing for a great portion of that game, he was and could of been the difference maker. Also assuming no injuries I think if they meet up again it’ll be another great game wether it be in Fox or Heinz
The rules have favored the offense more and more each year. Make the pansy offense work harder to balance what I see as a disadvantage.
My God, Colin. can't you argue that same point for every other coach bedsides Belichik? Through a combination of a great QB, brilliant coaching, team oriented guys, a dedicated fanbase, some boneheaded plays by the opposition, and tricky NFL rules, there will not be any situation like this again...EVER! For over 15 years, the Patriots have somehow defied logic!
Well, there isn't a 21 point gap in capability like last year. So the Steelers could have a decent shot in January. But I knew they were not going to be able keep coasting to first seed just barely surviving against inferior competition. Yesterday is a preview of what could happen in January if they do not develop some consistency.
shouldn't have taken a fake spike, Steelers shouldn't have had to get in the endzone twice
still had a chance to win if they ran it near the end of the game, could've easily gotten a td, Mike Tomlin pulled a Pete Carrol
This is the best sports show.
The Steelers had multiple chances to stop the Patriots from coming back but couldn't capitalize. I don't feel bad for them, I was rooting for them but they played sloppy.
I have the feeling that if the same thing happened but he got hit after reaching across and the ball came out they would have said it's a TD. Crazy how the players have less authority than the grass...
In the NFL, you cant just tell them to simplify things. If they dont have very detailed, specific, and clearly indisputable way of defining a catch, someone is ways gonna be complaini g because its gonna be called 50-50. Be having specifically defined the catch, CONSISTENCY can be achieved which is all u can ask for in any sport. There is a REASON the rule is THIS specific. Because of the dez and calvin johson plays. Its not possible to simplify it.
It took the same amount of time to make the call as it takes to transfer funds electronically.... coincidence?
Colin throwing out peace signs as quotations. Lol
This dude is always on the money,
The fact of the matter is that we really don't know who messed up.
Maybe they did have a plan for this scenario and Big Ben just forgot. You don't know and neither do I. Maybe we can read about it in the players/coaches autobiographies in a few years...
I wonder when Brandon is going to talk about the lack of respect for Jay Cutler.
Simplify, put that play 5 yards deeper into the end zone, catch the ball, falling to the ground, ball hits ground and comes lose...regardless of if there was a move or not that isn't a catch by common sense
Also that wasn't the end of the game, they couldn't have easily kicked the FG, not thrown the pick, not been downed in bounds, forced OT, but let's focus on the call that didn't matter as much as the rest of that
Why is this always an problem with a team against the pats 😑
totally agree ! Colin is saying too many rules should've been a touchdown but because rules are implemented its not ! Steelers lost and it sucks for them even though I'm a pats fan cause I thought touchdown for sure
I thought Colin would be smug about the Steelers losing but I was pleasantly surprised that he doesn’t like the catch rule
Why is no one talking about how without AB Shazier Haden and Gilbert the Steelers were still the better team
Hey Colin the seal was way too fast for the Great white lol Steelers did it yesterday SUNDAY 12/16/18
The catch rule isn't hard to figure out. Without this rule he fumbles it into the end zone for a touchback.
No. He had control when it crossed the goal line. The ball came loose AFTER it crossed. The dispute is over how to interpret the rule regarding what's a catch. Was it a catch because his knee made contact with the ground before he lost control of the ball? Or was it incomplete because the ball didn't survive contact with the ground? I posted the rule above but I will do it here as well: == "If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball until after his initial contact with the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete." == If the rule isn't hard to figure out, why don't I know which part of the players body has to make initial ground contact???
But you have to clearly define "have possession". How about this happened in the middle of the field?
tbh regardless of the catch, there’s no reason for pittsburgh to fake that spike. just kick the damn field goal.
The system didn't win the pats the game, Rob Gronkowski did. There was no other way pats get ahead without gronk. Brady wasn't at his best, gronk was.
But the problem with what Colin says is that Jesse James never possessed the ball as he entered the end zone. If the rule changes to what Colin suggests, there'd be an even slipperier line where a player could have the ball vaguely bobble in his hands as he enters the end zone and it be a touchdown. The rules aren't perfect, but they are made to establish what possession is. They are extremely clear on what possession is.
Exactly the point... Treat receivers lile rb's
Zachariah Wright they are not extremely clear on what possession is. Yes its clear that a player cant drop it before getting possession, but the term possession is a gray area. Its not clearly defined. They say you have to make a football move well why isnt tucking it to your chest and then reaching it over the line a football move? That part of the rule is solely based on the refs judgment just like a pass interference call or holding call.
LMAO "I DON'T CARE HOW YOU LAND I CARE ABOUT HOW YOU LAND WHEN IM ON A PLANE" CLASSIC
It only created confusion because ppl mad. You can't just cross the endzone because what about the back of endzone what about the sides of the endzone. So when a receiver catches the ball at the side of endzone has both feet in but the ball is out of bounds when he catches it...it should be out of bounds? No
Was it a touchdown? No. Was it a catch because his knee was down at the 2 yard line or even closer? Yes.
Brandon Cinnabons nobody touched him to rule him down then he lost control of the football, it's an incomplete pass
It doesnt matter if he was touched or not. By rule, It was never a catch
Brandon Cinnabons that makes no sense it's either a complete pass or not if you say it was complete at the one say it was a catch.
That is not the rule. Sorry.
Brandon Cinnabons Exactly.
WHAT IS SO DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND????? If a player attempts to make a catch WHILE!!!!!!!!! falling/diving!!!!!!! You must survive the ground! It makes literally zero difference if he crossed the plane of the endzone while falling or if he crossed the plane of Jupiter while falling. The ground knocked the ball loose. It makes no difference if his knee was down or if his elbow was down. You want to be mad at someone, be mad at the receiver who couldn't finish the catch.
Ryan Petley he survived the ground, he pulled he ball in to his stomach, fell down, then crawled/reached towards the goal line, broke the plain, then bobbled it after the process of a catch was completed
Scott McGinn Whatever helps you sleep at night
He crawled??? He twisted himself while falling to force it in without securing the catch fully and dropped it.
You’re not wrong. The ball moved when he hit the ground. The ruling was correct. Most people that are complaining agree with that. We want the rule changed. We want consistency. If it were a rushing play, I.t wouldn’t matter if the player fumbled after crossing the line. Why is it different with a catch?
Kevin Scott it is consistent...it has been consistent for some time now...this rule is applied to a decision almost every game. Just so happens when you are upset about the outcome is an issue
This is a short sighted argument, Colin. If momentary possession was deemed a catch, receivers would have an absurd amount of fumbles (as they often receive hits as soon as or right after they momentarily possess a ball on a catch).
We're looking at the one time (okay, one of the lesser times) this works against the receiver and now saying it's a bad rule.
If we're going on principle, the teams, the game, the receiver, the time in the game during which it happened, etc. shouldn't matter.
This rule benefits receivers, overall. Otherwise, their fumble numbers would be through the roof.
This should be the new rule.. Wide receiver , running backs or any player with the football in their hands and breaks the goal line in anyway should be a touchdown
Coach bill would’ve kicked the field goal and allowed the Steelers to receive the ball first in overtime
I don't think he'll ever give the ball away in overtime again after he threw that came away to the Jets and cost the team homefield advantage in the playoffs.
That was one of the worst coaching mistakes in history.
Big Ben has made a habit of getting away with making stupid throws, what is that fake spike play trying to do?
Throw it between 7 Pats, I'll get lucky again...
He didn't have possession, though. He was going to the ground the entire time he was attempting to catch it.
Everyone defers to the second half... or at least any smart team in general
The steelers still had chances to win the game like usual against the pats the just didnt execute
First and goal in SB51 just to get a touchdown and possibly a 2pt conversion to tie. Three tries. Brady throws twice to Bennett. Outside corner fades. 2nd attempt ALMOST intercepted. Third try, run, score and rest is history. Brady would have thrown away and NE would have tied with a field goal.
I believe the majority of fans like instant replay which is used by officials to make the "right" call. Therefore, a catch needs to be defined and not subjective. Your argument about confusion and speed compromises the right call. Disagree with your premise.
One of the nfl officiating representatives admitted it was a complete pass. He contradicted himself.
Hayward Bey should of been an incompletion on the following play..
Inside The Stands why? He caught it but didn't out of bounds.
28-3
It all started with Calvin Johnson and it continues to hunt the NFL til this day lol. The Process
"Let me segue into this..." How about actually segue into it, and not just say that EVERY time.
Colin, the argument becomes possession. In order for a receiver to have possession he has to catch then take 2 or 3 steps to be considered a runner. Had James caught the ball then ran 3 steps, dove into end zone and lost the ball because of the ground it's a touchdown because he established possession before breaking plain. In your arguement your stating that possession was just catching the ball then crossing the plain with it in his hand should be a touchdown. Ask yourself this question if he caught a pass at mid field, landed but fell to the ground before he took any steps, the ball comes loose when he hits the ground is it a fumble or incomplete pass? It's incomplete. Same rule applies. You have to establish yourself as a runner to have possession. You can't let refs call it based on an eye test, opinion, pr anything other than a rule with zero interpretation...
Yes, we can make it simple. Ball hits the ground it's not a catch. David Tyree did not make a catch. Ball hits the ground it should be over
lol that was clearly a TD
Colin, if that play happens at the fifty then is that a catch? The goal line doesn’t make a catch
One question: On the football field, in between the whistles, exactly what can a player do that is NOT a football move? Name one thing. I'll name two that absolutely are football moves. Catch the ball, and reach the ball across the plane of the end-zone. Here is the perfect rule for the book. If a man has the football in his hands, his feet touch the ground and the ball crosses the plane, it is a touchdown. Anything that happens AFTER he scores, is irrelevant, because the PLAY IS OVER... The official on the field called it right, based on the rules. The official in New York, will be receiving a huge envelope of cash soon. That call may just be worth $50 million to the Patriots. Money is ruining the integrity of football.
The Steelers got Detroit Lioned......
Problem is that with a definition as vague as catch or not a catch is that it's entirely subjective. There is no objective guidelines to go by. It would still be debated. And it wasn't a catch. The steeler's player didn't maintain possession of the ball. To me, that is an important part of a catch. A catch is not kinda sorta. It's either you did or you didn't. There has to be clear lines. Everyone's idea of what is a catch is gonna be different so I don't think the rule should be changed.
