As an Irish fan it is true what he's saying, that argument use to work 30 years ago but not now! Stanford's become more difficult than Harvard to get into!
I am from Seattle and went to Notre Dame. Seattle may be north of Lat. 40 but I am here to tell you the weather in South Bend is a damn site worse than Seattle. The “More north equals worse weather” assumption is flawed.
As a Notre Dame fan I was a little surprised they weren't in the top 25 because I know they get favored. I wasn't expecting them to be in the top 25 because you shouldn't be in the top 25 if you're coming off a 4 win seasons. With that said last time ND wasn't in the preseason 25 they went to the title game! Let's go Irish!!
now what would be more interesting is to show the programs the players are studying! because no matter what university youre at there are tougher programs than others inside the same university and by program i mean degreee
lol go to Notre Dame and see just how different it is amongst those other schools that were listed. Notre Dame is a Catholic, private institution. That place understand that college athletics aren't end all means all, so they still do hold their athletes to high standards. Notice how the shift of now Notre Dame slowing down comes at a time when the CFB market is soaring high, so teams will do literally anything to get their players in the best shape (aka people helping them with school work, free passes for things we don't even know about)? Notre Dame would never think of doing that with their institution. Academics are part of their mantra.
did you not watch the video? Stanford is the only school that requires football players to earn admission purely through academic merit, not football talent.
Statistics are not subjective. Stanford is the ONLY power 5 football program that requires their students to get accepted to the school before they can be signed to a letter of intent. Harvard isn't in the same stratosphere as Stanford or ND. So your point is invalid.
You didn't get his argument, that cold weather doesn't affect the success of a team besides, don't act like he didn't say Michigan which is just as hard to get in but way better on the field. Stanford is hard to get in and they are better. Stop making excuses
You do know out of all of those schools you just mentioned all except 1 had a worse record than Notre Dame, so again what's your excuse? Their are schools that are just as tough to get into and they are killing Notre Dame, especially last year
As in it's not as strong as Notre Dame's? Notre Dame plays a few ACC games, a couple PAC 12 games and whoever else they want. Stanford is playing nine conference games.
Annually, lots of schools past ND have a better GPA, academic enrollment, and football team. Yet someway, somehow, Irish can make it out on top one way or another. Fine. Lots of good teams fall to a 4-8 record just like ND last year and make it somewhere big outside their campuses. Fine. Coaching in ND, compared to locations such as Stanford, Alabama, Michigan, Baylor, and even Clemson, is harder to leverage every season. Debatable. Still great to coach? Fine, I get that. There's a difference between playing in the Big 12, and Playing in the PAC 12 as a power 5 school where you play the Irish back to back to back EVERY.SINGLE. YEAR. Bring in Colorado to Irish stadium and back up those words, Klatt. Otherwise, keep your opinions set to when my Irish play you Buffs face to face. #IrishForLife
2 things. First, Klatt is correct when he states academics is NOT a valid excuse for the Irish, but he is off on his fact about Ohio State being NORTH of ND. Ohio State is located in CENTRAL OHIO. ND is located just SOUTH of the MICHIGAN border. The northern border of Ohio and Indiana are almost the same. Columbus is due east of Indianapolis. Look at a map Klatt. Nit picking works both ways and it comes back to haunt you. Last, Washington is certainly north of ND but the weather is NOT cloe to Wisconsin, Michigan, or ND. YOu might want to compare the winter temps in Seattle and then in South Bend.
Notre Dame has 1 bad year now they're nothing 😂, I've never seen a ND fan accuse weather, I've seen people who hate on ND say people don't want to go there because of it, as for academics, nobody is blaming 4-8 on that, 4-8 is unacceptable, that's why a lot of fans want Kelly out, I am not one of those however.
ND will never be able to go into S.Florida and get what they want. As a matter of fact since Richt has returned, nobody will be able too get what they want. GOOD LUCK YALL 📙_📗
These guys are way off. Notre Dame has been very good but can't take it to that next level and part of it is academics and admissions. It's true. They argue that Stanford admissions is tough if not tougher. But Stanford is not winning national championships either. So they are in the same situation as Stanford. The Stanford argument doesn't make Notre Dame wrong it makes them right. As soon is Stanford wins the national championship, I will be for the first one to say they are correct that they have tough admissions and academics like Notre Dame and they were still able to win.
Notre Dame isn't Notre Dame anymore. They aren't the "unique" program that they were decades ago. Anymore they're just a good not great program with a fan base full of excuses and delusion. Keep bragging about your history from 30 plus years ago and see how interested 17 year old recruits care about it. That was Michigan's problem for years until Harbaugh came around and finally got that program focused on the future instead of dwelling in the past. Yes, Notre Dame is a great school but nobody watches and follows a football team because of the entire roster's GPA. Again, brag all you want about your program but Ohio State and Michigan are doing laps around your program in terms of building for the future. Notre Dame is MAYBE the 5th best team in the Midwestern/Big10 states area. Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin would crush Notre Dame right now.
Joel Klatt, Stanford are so much better than Notre Dame ???? they have less than 50% winning record in bowls, they last won a NC pre WWII, they can beat Brian Kelly I will give you that.
Who is the best coach in college football right now?
My dude Marty Daniels, Blue Mountain State be killing the league year after year.
Urban Meyer
Urban Meyer
The Herd with Colin Cowherd Of course it's Nick Saban Roll damn Tide
by the way calling I really enjoy Joe Klatt on the show today
Klatt and Broussard need a show together, both of those guys bring hella knowledge, stats and history to interviews. Love it
Joel klatt is great, and hits the nail on the head with the ND/Stanford argument! Amen man, amen!
Need more Joel. Dude is great
Miss Joe Klat and finally someone tells it like it is on Notre Dame
Loved this interview, Joel speaks clear and loud
College football = life
As an Irish fan it is true what he's saying, that argument use to work 30 years ago but not now! Stanford's become more difficult than Harvard to get into!
BLATT WENT OFF ON NOTRE DAME AND I LOVE IT!!!!! HA!!!! GO CANES!!!!
Mac Diesel convicts 🤐
Mac Diesel WHO WON THE GAME EXACTLY
Mac Diesel Ya but you guys still lost to us
Klatt has the biggest Adam's Apple I've ever seen.
njyankeesfan Hes a QB
njyankeesfan while Charlie's is nowhere to be found
Did he just say he liked baker?
Weiss wasted one of the most talented notre dame teams in school history...
Aidan then he went to kansas with a shovel and dug a 4-5 year hole.
Brett Bielema better be on the hot seat
Klatt spittin hot fire.
I am from Seattle and went to Notre Dame. Seattle may be north of Lat. 40 but I am here to tell you the weather in South Bend is a damn site worse than Seattle. The “More north equals worse weather” assumption is flawed.
Joe Klatt is the man
Ohio State is geographically north of Notre Dame? Really?
As a Notre Dame fan I was a little surprised they weren't in the top 25 because I know they get favored. I wasn't expecting them to be in the top 25 because you shouldn't be in the top 25 if you're coming off a 4 win seasons. With that said last time ND wasn't in the preseason 25 they went to the title game! Let's go Irish!!
I’m in Big Ten country, and another school that has the high academic standards as well as good players - that’s Northwestern.
now what would be more interesting is to show the programs the players are studying! because no matter what university youre at there are tougher programs than others inside the same university and by program i mean degreee
Anyone who rips on Notre Dame is good in my book

Stanford is better than Notre Dame in every way.
Adam Prince You are right however, the standard at which notre dame holds the student athlete is higher than at Stanford, or Michigan etc.
did you not watch the video? Stanford is the only school that requires football players to earn admission purely through academic merit, not football talent.
Statistics are not subjective. Stanford is the ONLY power 5 football program that requires their students to get accepted to the school before they can be signed to a letter of intent. Harvard isn't in the same stratosphere as Stanford or ND. So your point is invalid.
Standards are lowered for athletes. Do you believe Tiger Wood met Stanfords academic standards? Or was an exception made for him?
How u like nd this year
once again... no love for Jake Browning
Jonathaniel Cha he has a noodle arm
Charlie Weis so salty
Not sure about that.
I never heard of a scholarship to Stanford.
Especially when the Jeopardy guy acted like Austin was Mexicali.
I don't mean to knit-pick... but Ohio State is not north of Notre Dame
I think the point was, it also gets cold in OSU and they ware way better than Notre Dame
You didn't get his argument, that cold weather doesn't affect the success of a team besides, don't act like he didn't say Michigan which is just as hard to get in but way better on the field. Stanford is hard to get in and they are better. Stop making excuses
Captain Ron you're my dad
Joel Klatt gets paid to analyze the recruiting landscape. Besides admission requirements are easy to look up it's called Google.
You do know out of all of those schools you just mentioned all except 1 had a worse record than Notre Dame, so again what's your excuse? Their are schools that are just as tough to get into and they are killing Notre Dame, especially last year
My former classmate should have attended UW Tacoma or something (instead of paying money to attend ND).
Joel Klatt is one of the last people to criticize someone for underachieving. Horrible pro career
Thomas Hensley I feel like your pro career was probably worse
Drew lampson nah, man. First ballot Fantasy football HOF
Thomas Hensley Oh my mistake. Sorry sir
It's insane how A&M was able to get even bad-at-English students like me to "be set with an education plan."
Jacob Eason needs to be in there
Matt Burgamy who does he coach???
Matt Burgamy sec fans don't even know what a good qb is.
Matt Burgamy lol he's going to bust, watches him play in highschool very overrated
Klatt, Weis coached at Notre Dame. I think he would have a better understanding how things worked there than you.
anyone else feel like maybe shane buechele should have been mentioned
I can make a case for you to get fired considering you've gotten fired more than me.
Stanford also plays in the Pac 12.......they dont play the schedule ND does.
As in it's not as strong as Notre Dame's? Notre Dame plays a few ACC games, a couple PAC 12 games and whoever else they want. Stanford is playing nine conference games.
Anyone know what song is playing around 8:05?
“Supermassive Black Hole” by Muse
Would rlly like to see what that guys favorite team is so I can rip on him like he is on a school that he probably could never get in to
How can u have Barrett. He can't pass
I love JT, but he really needs to work on his accuracy
lol Ohio State is not farther north than Notre Dame. Joel's point still stands pretty much but don't bend the truth just to further prove your point.
Annually, lots of schools past ND have a better GPA, academic enrollment, and football team. Yet someway, somehow, Irish can make it out on top one way or another. Fine.

Colorado would have beat you last year.

J.T. Barrett, lol. Come on man.
Better record has nothing to do with strength of schedule. Duh. Or injuries.

of the top 30, none won a NC. NONE.
GO BUCKEYES!!!! !!!!

No love for Auburn

TheRodFarva Not anymore.
Very wrong
That graphic that showed W/L for 2016 is aids, ND had one bad year. I’d like to see the 2018 version
Also Columbus is not north of south bend lmaoooo
Notre Dame living in past when black players couldn't play.
Brett rypien is better than Josh Allen and Josh Allen will probably be a first round pick
Joel Klatt, Stanford are so much better than Notre Dame ???? they have less than 50% winning record in bowls, they last won a NC pre WWII, they can beat Brian Kelly I will give you that.
War eagle auburn university!
9-0 ha ha
Charlie Weiss looks terrible.
A couple serious dunces.
This guy hates us cause he ain't us 😂😂 GO IRISH!
