Maybe the use of a chain block hoist would be easier than the small ratchet, you can get different lengths of chain so all the pulling is done from the floor, and they are much easier due to the geared ratios.

If only there was something you could wear on your hands to keep them warm. Someone should invent that.
Strong work on the amazing roof rack and brilliant idea for the crane/hoist combo.

Hey Y'all! That'll work. Hope it'll be years before you have to use it. What kind of jack are you going to carry ? We put "Serenity's" spare on the roof rack, only a hundred pounds or so. Have a ladder (to slide it on) and strap type boat winch to raise and lower. Winch holds it on, but yes Drew, I use another strap for a safety. I follow several RUclipsrs that I'd like to support by being a Patron, if I did for all we'd be unable to do our little adventures. Please understand and forgive.

On your model plate you need to have the raised letters in a contrasting color white. Because it's very hard to read not contrasted.

An electric winch will make tire loading / unloading so much easier in my opinion. Great truck, congratulations to the both of you!

WOWZERS! You folks are doing great stuff here :) About that spare tire chain hoist ... YIKES!!! Think about electrifying the task. Such as a cheap trailer winch from Harbor Freight mounted on the boom. Or, another idea, you have a big winch on the front with a long winch line. Maybe figure out a way to run the winch line up to the boom and back down thru a pulley? Be a breeze to winch out (lower the tire) or winch in (raise it up) that way.

The turning over and lifting of the heavy wheel reminds me of the "Strong Man Competition" (...sorry, of course also "Strong Women Competition"), kidding. Good that you bypassed the wheel holder. So you can still use the inside of the rim to carry things like tools & hydraulic jacks. A suitable holder that can be integrated into the rim is quickly made.
Also a round cover plate over it, with a padlock. The cover plate could also cover the entire tire, so the tire is also protected from strong sunlight (UV light). UV radiation is a tire killer, it becomes porous (especially the wheel flanks), and is actually unusable after a few years. It is always a pleasure to watch you working on your Mog...now after labeling Unimog 1300 L. You really enjoy working on it, that's obvious. Cool lighting system, I like it. Have lots of fun and adventures with this vehicle.

Gives a whole new meaning to “tire swing!”
Oh my gosh! Coming out of the shop it looks like it should be in a Terminator movie. Yeah, baby!!!!

Beautiful job! You’re only missing lights under the MOG. A good sized animal could be under the vehicle because of its height.

I'd leave the entire crane assembly in place, but if not all of it, at minimum the plate.

Might be easier adding all the lights after your trip to the paint shop? Also, any special reason for a driving spot light bar on the rear instead of flood?

  • @JosephPuplava

Amazing lights! Is the steel mounted jack plate strong enough to lift the tire without bending the plate?
It seems to me that you don't have much left to mod the Unimog. It will be ready to hit the road.
How many miles do you get per gallon of gas? 8 miles? I know the war vehicles get the worst mpg.

Won't you need to put a lifting eye on every wheel so that you can get the flat tire up on the roof just like you got the spare up on the roof?
