These few moments were greater than all of history combined, and our only evidence of existence were these frames from this movie, we would have a legacy untouchable by eons of innovation. Hats off to whoever conjured up this masterpiece in particular.

y'know whats cool about that little quip is that the guy who was shooting it is the leader's younger son who also found the water barrel in the first place, and as we see at the end of the scene, the water jug is already empty. That little scene of him shooting the water is literally hinting to the audience that he already knew it was empty before they actually showed the container being empty!

When I first saw this clip, I thought he said "sorry", but I don't think that's it. There's no line for him here in the script but he definitely says something.

Wild Western bandits that aren’t human flying on vampire bats out of an ancient Mesoamerican city with Ride of the Valkyries as background music... this is imagery I didn’t know I needed in my life!
They’re not vampire bats because there are no vampire bats indigenous to North America. They appear to be either Little or Big Brown Bats. Additionally the city is not Mesoamerican but instead is Puebloan. You can tell by the architecture and the setting. The movie takes place in the Mojave Desert which is to far north to be apart of Mesoamerica which refers to the area between central Mexico and northern Costa Rica.
Rango is such an overlooked work of genius. Not sure how anyone could watch an action spectacle as well-made as this scene and ever forget this film. Not just this scene, but everything in terms of art direction, writing, pacing, etc....
This canyon may feel like it lasts forever, until you remember that these critters are all roughly 4 inches tall, and the "canyon" is basically a wide crack in the ground.

Dang I love this sequence so much! I especially love the one-shot scenes changing camera angles and focal length (some awesome examples: 0:14-0:26, 0:58-1:07, 1:24-1:26, 2:14-2:19, 2:58-3:06, 3:34-3:40) Also love the action in both backgrounds and foreground. Perfect framing @ 3:46-3:52

Two things I’m just now noticing: The mole-people playing their instruments mid-air mirrors the Doof Wagon band from Mad Max: Fury Road, and I’m now realizing how well George Miller and Gore Verbinski would probably get along. “That wasn’t altogether unpleasant!” Haha that went over my head as a kid.

I think maybe it’s just a normal sized canyon, but yeah it’s longer because they are small animals. At most 6 inches tall.

This is just such a great movie, the villains are truly menacing, the music is brilliant and it’s scenes like this that show how good it is.
