I last made the overland trip from Kasani, Kazangula,, Savuti Channel, Moremi, Maun and Moremi in 1971 in 4 Series II Land Rovers. Needless to our equipment was primitive compared to yours,, no Navigation, radios etc. There were no lodges, boat ramps or even formal campsites in Moremi or Savuti. We made the trip in early April and had to register our route and ETA with the police who told us we were only the fourth vehicle to attempt the trip in either direction that year as the roads were still flooded in places. We actually met vehicles #2 and #3, who told us about a route around the flood waters, but this involved bushwhacking - thank goodness we had good winches, So your video brought back many memories and showed how different Botswana is today
That is a truly epic tale! Thanks for sharing that little slice of history with us Katie! 🙏🏻 it’s amazing how this place has developed over the years! But still managed to stay beautiful!
Lion at the ablutions in 3rd bridge, lion and wild dogs on mbomaloop and lions close to 4th bridge, live leopard kill between 4th bridge and Xakanaxa, packing up camp in the dark with a Lion roaring close by at south gate and so much more. Your epic video brings back beautifull memories of this incredible place, only a few months ago. Looking forward to next year going back. Will share. For now looking forward to your next video in Khwai mogotho area, thanks for taking us with you.
Wow wow wow! That’s some serious experiences!! 🫣 Epic!! We had a really nice chilled experience by the sounds of it 😂 so glad the video could invoke some beautiful memories! That’s what it’s all about! 👏🏻
You smashed it !!! I love the bush more than life, the only thing I tell my kids I am afraid if Hippos . They replayed the boat hot 5 times and jumped every time . Your nervous chit chatting was palatable 👏👏👏👏
This is a Fanflippen tastic TRIP!!! What a exciting, enjoying, stressful, and pain free trip. This is awesome to see Adriaan with his dad uncle and close friends overlanding Our beautiful country. Well done and thanks for this awesome content. Enjoying your Channel Mr Roam
Awesome Adrian. Showing us all how it should be done! That helicopter flight bought back memories but wow you guys saw tons more than we did. Well done on knowing how to jack up your vehicle and change a tyre. I was on a trip to Kgalagadi near Ventersdorp, where a guy didn’t have a clue how to jack up his vehicle and didn’t have a useable spare due to the wrong rim - spare was basically for show. I ended up using 6 plugs to fix it. Love the new canopy! That’s now done properly! Well done bushtech. Amazing how different things look there a month or so after we were there! That guide was so wrong to go towards those hippo and put you at risk. Everyone knows those hippo in that lagoon as being very aggressive. He should have steered well clear of them. (Sorry don’t mean to be negative) Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Brucey! The Heliflip was awesome! I can’t imagine what it’s like in the wet season! The new canopy setup is amazing! I am completely in love with the tray! 😂 Shame an inexperienced guide only has to learn once 🤣 he will be scarred for life now, just like us 😋
Seeing everyone at the end of video sharing their experiences is so beautiful🏆. Lastly i liked that everyone did get enough screen time. I can't wait for episode 2👍
Fantastic video, I've enjoyed every second of it. Cool guys, no joke, big luck with the Hippo 🤠 Thank you for taking all of us with you. Greetings from Lappland 🥶-30 actually we do not need fridges but a lot wood :-)
Thank you for taking the time to sit and watch! I can’t imagine how you stop everything from freezing at those temperatures 😂 that’s when a fridge becomes a heater 😉
Watching all these overlanding videos give one the edge to really want to experience the amazing wildlife and what it has to offer. However the hippo ordeal was really on another level...thanks guys for quality content.
Great storytelling. This is the traditional African expedition overlanding that many people envision. Something about having the threat of hyenas, big cats, hippos, etc wonder through one's camp site. I think I would need one of those plexiglass boxes photographers use to film Kodiak bears, just to feel safe enough to sleep 😴 💤 🤔 Looks like a great series in the works. 🎥 That hippo attack was crazy.
Hahaha! Yes! It was everything we could have wished for really! 😋 I think for our first time there it was just wild enough, but the stories I’ve heard; it can very pretty hectic at times!
Visited Botswana a few times over the years, honestly the most authentic African experience one could have! Overlanding really does allow one to see the deep dark Africa! Awesome content, great to see how it’s evolved from your Jimny years Adrian, keep up the great work!
We camped at Khumaga in the migration season a while ago, treated to the sounds of Lion kills in the night but we’re woken up to what sounded like very odd thunder close to us, in the dim moonlight two massive elephants had come to check out our camp, the next morning we saw they were a mere 6m from our tent…. the ‘thunder’ we heard, the grumbling of Elephant tummy’s 😂
I had a similarly experience with the boat tour at namushasha River lodge in the caprivi strip and one memory that wil stick with me forever, thnx for sharing your content Adriaan
This video brought so many memorines, In June 2022 with a friend of mine, we did a road trip in Botswana as well, from Kasane,Kazungula, back to Manun to Moremi, and so many other places, that time we had a two by 4 car, so we could not go into several places on our own so we had to do a lot of game drive with other people once we got into some places, the best moment of the trip was the two days we spent camping in Makhadikhadi Pans, Botswana is indeed a hidden gem.
I love the way you all guys pat attention to details. That's only possible out of a pure passion. Thanks so much for the inspiration and tips. It is also beautiful to do that sorts of expeditions in mens group.
Funnily enough I hit something on that stretch of road coming the other way that forced me to have my wheel alignment done in Gaborone. Our trip took us over the top of the Okavango Delta through the Selinda Reserve. Trip of a lifetime with memories etched forever.
Could not wait for your next instalment and it did not disappoint!! Everyday is an adventure in Africa, be it a flat tyre or boat-engine issues and ramping a hippo!
Awesome nudge by the hippo .Took my breath away😅. Reminds me of the reserve forests in South India, in the western ghats where one has to be aware of the omnipresent elephants but the wildlife viewing even from the highway can be great.
The rigs were champs! These shirts are not; but we are actually working on something, a small business that Andy can run in the time between trips and make abit of extra income here and there, so we will hopefully have something cool for you all soon 👌🏻
Fantasric video!! Need to ger back there....crossed those bridges in the early nineties in Hilux Raider...great memories...looking forward to next episode. Ps: what time of the year were you guys there.
Thanks for watching Martin! We were there in the tail end of October 👍🏻 I’m sure it’s changed a lot since you were last there! I’ve heard stories that it’s a lot more populated these days, but we found it brilliant regardless!
Really nice adventures... hope you fix a solar panel with the extreme heat and sun it would be very beneficial..you will have no worries of going without power😀
It was! I thought about you a lot on this trip buddy! I still had some of the way point you sent me! 😂 we are long overdue for a beer sometime when I’m back up in Gauteng!
Brilliant intro. It really sets the story. But not so brilliant start to your trip with a blown tyre. I hope that was the worst breakdown you had on your trip. That hippo strike was phenomenal. Glad you guys where OK. Did you get a discount with all the boat breakdowns and assist you provided to get back? Excellent episode.
Thank you so much! Hahah! We got an hour extra on our boat ride for free because we did most of the work 😂 that was pretty scary every time I rewatch it it gives me some mild ptsd 🤣
Great video thanks for posting. I did a two week self drive camping safari in Namibia and looking to hit Botswana within the next few years. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
I should have taken them instead! But I was worried about Mud so i swapped back to the Mud tires; the Generals were sitting in my garage at home during this trip. Theyre back on the truck now
Really interesting video, I did the Okavango (all private concessions bordering Moremi) by light aircraft in 2010 spending 10 days traveling from Oddballs to various other lodges and on to Mowana river lodge Kasane before crossing into Zambia at Kazangula, absolutely brilliant, we didn't do it by 4×4 but my parents did in the mid 90's What interests me is the system's that you have in your vehicles, solar power, charge controllers, long range diesel tanks, water storage, refrigeration equipment etc, I own a blue water sailing yacht which has significantly more water, diesel, battery capacity than your vehicles but of identical nature and it's amazing just how similar the vast majority of systems are, fascinating correlation between the two
Awesome episode 👌🏾 remember after you made the Namibia trip you asked the trip we would want to embark on...I specifically mentioned this trip via the savuti!! Still remains my dream trip
Good day. Just subscribed and watched... I love nature and this was wonderful production. What are the basic things you need when you are a first time camper?
It was definitely deliberate, he had warned us a couple times. But the guide wasn’t tuned into the vibe of the hippo so much. But if you watch where the boat stops, and then when we start to go again, the boat had drifted a lot and I think while the guide was busy on the engine he didn’t notice and as we went off we literally went over the hippo, instead of along side. It was a comedy of errors there
I'm surprised your battery was at 50% when you got to camp. Didn't you drive a long distance to get there? And it sounds like you need to really invest on a fixed solar panel on your rig. And OMG about the hippo strike. Talk about your boat breaking down at the wrong place, at the wrong time. Being attacked by Africa's most aggressive and territorial animal and get away unhurt is an experience to remember for a very long time. Excellent intro and fantastic storytelling through great editing. Your commentary also adds to a great episode. 👍👌
Thanks so much! We actually didn’t have too many long drives and were relying heavily on the solar panels! We managed to get to 80% by the end of the day every day 👌🏻 the issue with the solar is that it was always dusty, cloudy and hazy so the panels couldn’t do their most. Two fridges running permanently uses 10A so that’s my 120ah lithium battery done in 12H so we had to be super on top of our charging
It all started with a Suzuki jimny. I desire nothing but to explore and see my country. Unfortunately I am not even working class anymore after losing my job during COVID lockdown. I now hustle from home and spend my days raising my baby and making our home. It’s been amazing to see my country through your lease. Please consider me if ever you take one of your viewers on short trip
Awesome video. When people talk to me about weight saving, and I look in the mirror, I realise they probably weigh under 100kg's. If not, yhe weight of a tyre is not an excuse not to be over prepared.
I’ll sum up this episode in one word - BLIKSEM! 🙌🏻
I last made the overland trip from Kasani, Kazangula,, Savuti Channel, Moremi, Maun and Moremi in 1971 in 4 Series II Land Rovers. In SA, you are the GOAT. Luved the video
Thank you sir! 🙏🏻 glad you enjoyed it!
We just visited the OD for the 4th time and Nxai Pan fir for the 1st time in November…..the word “epic” must be taught to you guys at birth!
That’s so fortunate to be able to visit these places to often! Epic is what it is 😂 but also o am part of the video game generation 🤣
Great storytelling. This is the traditional African expedition overlanding that many people envision.

Beautiful experience you guys had. the wild, terrain and untamed spaces. i would like to explore them too someday
Thank you guys for sharing your experience. I've never been out of SA, seen this motivate me to work just hard enough to enjoy this too
Great video guys. Stunning shots. It's such an incredible landscape and amazing wildlife. So different to overlanding over here in Australia!
Glad you enjoyed it! They each have such unique redeeming features for Overlanding! I'd love to explore Aus one day!
@Roam Overlanding absolutely. Maybe one day you can show us around your backyard and we can do the same on return 👊🤠
been watching Roam Overlanding for a while and that some action with the hippo. Glad you guys are okay
🤭 all good!
Beautiful video, captures the beautiful and majestic African nature. One day I’ll go on a similar trip through Botswana. Dream of mine as well.
I had a similarly experience with the boat tour at namushasha River lodge in the caprivi strip and one memory that wil stick with me forever, thnx for sharing your content Adriaan
Nothing like looking at your life flash before your eyes to make you feel alive 😂😂

Love this. Subscribed right away!
Welcome!!
Worth watching 👀 Love from NEPAL🇳🇵
Its nice to see all of you enjoying my home village Maun. I hope it was worth the adventure🔥💯
Dude your vids are super professional 👍🏻
Good going ,keep it up
I love the way you all guys pat attention to details. That's only possible out of a pure passion. Thanks so much for the inspiration and tips. It is also beautiful to do that sorts of expeditions in mens group.
It’s a great privilege to travel like this for sure, and awesome to share with people who appreciate it
Tried hard to locate Uncle Andy's Tent on the ground but to noavail 😁😁 , thought he was BRAVE all the time 😁😁
Hahah no they were in the big ground tent, we had 2 stretchers in there 🤣 he is only brave sometimes 😂
Funnily enough I hit something on that stretch of road coming the other way that forced me to have my wheel alignment done in Gaborone.
Our trip took us over the top of the Okavango Delta through the Selinda Reserve. Trip of a lifetime with memories etched forever.
It’s a special place! I’m convinced it was a block of concrete and rebar that i hit
Great content 👏
Could not wait for your next instalment and it did not disappoint!! Everyday is an adventure in Africa, be it a flat tyre or boat-engine issues and ramping a hippo!
Haha thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Cant believe i live in this country and have never ever been up there by the swamps.
Epic indeed
It’s time to go see it then! 👏🏻
Awesome nudge by the hippo .Took my breath away😅. Reminds me of the reserve forests in South India, in the western ghats where one has to be aware of the omnipresent elephants but the wildlife viewing even from the highway can be great.
Good to see the new Hilux and Cruiser setups in action! Are the ROAM T-shirts and shirts available?
The rigs were champs! These shirts are not; but we are actually working on something, a small business that Andy can run in the time between trips and make abit of extra income here and there, so we will hopefully have something cool for you all soon 👌🏻
Fantasric video!! Need to ger back there....crossed those bridges in the early nineties in Hilux Raider...great memories...looking forward to next episode.
Ps: what time of the year were you guys there.
Thanks for watching Martin! We were there in the tail end of October 👍🏻 I’m sure it’s changed a lot since you were last there! I’ve heard stories that it’s a lot more populated these days, but we found it brilliant regardless!
my boyz, sima here from Botswana🤟
Really nice adventures... hope you fix a solar panel with the extreme heat and sun it would be very beneficial..you will have no worries of going without power😀
Nice 👍
Awesome trip !
As you said, this trip was absolutely magical! I genuinely enjoy it.
Warm greetings from Philadelphia.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video thanks for posting. I did a two week self drive camping safari in Namibia and looking to hit Botswana within the next few years. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Great video! Did Andy's Isuzu not make it?
The Isuzu wasn’t ready in time! But just hang in there abit because we have some very exciting things happening around the budget build!
One day I'd like to join you guys on one of these overlanding adventures
Hi sorry to hear about the tyre. What happened to the General tyres you had on previously. They seemed awesome.
I should have taken them instead! But I was worried about Mud so i swapped back to the Mud tires; the Generals were sitting in my garage at home during this trip. Theyre back on the truck now
Really interesting video, I did the Okavango (all private concessions bordering Moremi) by light aircraft in 2010 spending 10 days traveling from Oddballs to various other lodges and on to Mowana river lodge Kasane before crossing into Zambia at Kazangula, absolutely brilliant, we didn't do it by 4×4 but my parents did in the mid 90's
What interests me is the system's that you have in your vehicles, solar power, charge controllers, long range diesel tanks, water storage, refrigeration equipment etc, I own a blue water sailing yacht which has significantly more water, diesel, battery capacity than your vehicles but of identical nature and it's amazing just how similar the vast majority of systems are, fascinating correlation between the two
Awesome episode 👌🏾 remember after you made the Namibia trip you asked the trip we would want to embark on...I specifically mentioned this trip via the savuti!! Still remains my dream trip
It’s well worth the dream!
Beautiful. What two-way radio and aerial are you using?
We are using Kirisun radios and the MTech 2.7db Antenna 👌🏻
home...thanks for visting botswana ..only thing is we have few bad roads ..but you will enjoy botswana and its people..
It’s always a pleasure to visit! 👏🏻
Awesome video indeed. Do all the vehicles at least have the same PCD in order to share spare wheels?
Only the 2 hiluxes; but the cruiser is on its own pcd. But once I got a puncture everyone was on lookout 👀!
That was Great adventure.... Can you guys please break down the rough cost of the whole Botswana venture.. ,,,
Thanks for watching Teddy! It was pretty expensive; I think around R110,000.00+
Had the same problem with the bottle jack now I keep a 3ton trolly jack with the bottle jack in the drawer for soft areas
Roelfie wants to make a metal plate for the Jack, I also saw this really nice Jack from 4x4 Megaworld, I want to get my hands on to test out!
Good day. Just subscribed and watched... I love nature and this was wonderful production. What are the basic things you need when you are a first time camper?
Was that a deliberate hippo attack or it was a hippo being in an unfortunate location?
It was definitely deliberate, he had warned us a couple times. But the guide wasn’t tuned into the vibe of the hippo so much. But if you watch where the boat stops, and then when we start to go again, the boat had drifted a lot and I think while the guide was busy on the engine he didn’t notice and as we went off we literally went over the hippo, instead of along side. Am in Eastern part of Africa solar energy is handy..very handy. remember to fix that on the vehicle.
I'm surprised your battery was at 50% when you got to camp. Didn't you drive a long distance to get there? And it sounds like you need to really invest on a fixed solar panel on your rig. couldnt you have designed your canopy to have a 2 tyre carrier? i see a lot of space back there lol
You can very easily make it for 2 tires; I just didnt have a second spare Rim to put another tire; so instead I used it as a place to put my ladder.
❤❤❤
Amazing video❤ love it! What time of year, which month do you recomend?
August/September is great 👍🏻
Bro almost hippo snaks 😢 scary stuff
The cars. Is it Automatic or Manual? Nice adventure. Thanks for sharing your experiences. From Namibia.
Hey Christy! The Hilux’s are auto’s and the 79 series is a manual 👏🏻
Awesome video. When people talk to me about weight saving, and I look in the mirror, I realise they probably weigh under 100kg's. If not, yhe weight of a tyre is not an excuse not to be over prepared.
