The original is one of my all time favorites. My mom died from cancer and when I think of her I sing the original in my head or as best I can out loud. It's beautiful

A Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to the United States of America for an amount up to, and including, their life. Regardless of personal political views, that is an Honor and there are way too many people in this country who no longer remember that fact.

Thanks for watching this video. Survivors guilt sucks. Hardest thing i ever had to do when I was in the Marines was go to a brothers funeral. All you can do is look at his family and know you failed them. Lost 2 brothers to combat and 3 to their own hands after we got out. I will meet and drink a horn with them one day in Valhalla. My husband has survivors guilt. He also blames himself for not being there when a green on blue attack took place and he was one of the 2 "guardian angels" sent with an infantry unit to Afghanistan. He talks about it all the time. But if he had been there, then I would be a widow. I keep telling him that he was dismissed from the area because the visiting officer had her own detail. But he doesn't see it that way. He rushed back to the seen after hearing the shots and along with another soldier, they went after the fleeing assailant and practically turned him into hamburger.
Five Finger Death Punch is one of a few bands that did NOT cancel their USO tour in Iraq to play for us !!
This song was amazing live and he talks about vets for quite awhile in between his songs. It was amazing how much he cares for vets and people in recovery! When I saw the concert I was 2 months out of Hazelden. It really helped me!
You don't stop loving them, missing them and we still talk to them. They will be missed but not forgotten.

she really does doesn't she! She says she is married to a Marine, so I think Mrs. Lilly is more aware of it than others.
This man deserves every award possible. The shot of him crying on his knees with the flag behind him just gets me every time. You can feel the pain and regret in his heart. Also, in the scene where he is walking in front of the vehicles, his job is to basically spot danger. Mainly IED's. (Improvised explosive device) He didn't see it, and it caused his friends to get killed. He convinced them to join with him, and his own mistake got them killed. I can't imagine something like that
I can’t imagine the survivor guilt that I would have. And what kind of hell these service members go through when this kind of stuff happens to them… Mad respect to them all!!!
@@barryg4927It’s insane too because there’s so many stories of soldiers that then go on essentially suicide missions by continuing to sign up and do the next tour. Essentially they’re gonna keep going out onto the battlefield until the inevitably get killed. They often feel like they deserve to die like that since their friends died the same.
@@barryg4927yea imagine having your friend take their life after coming back from Afghanistan because of what they saw. Regular civilians have no idea what the after effects of deployment are.
When he was in front of the humvees he was suppose to be looking for IEDs and he missed one and heard it to late, which got his friends killed. And he blames himself cause it was his fault. Amazing video. FFDP always supports the tools & their struggles.
We go back to where the insanity makes sense. Where being on edge all the time is expected and not out of place.
Never more alive than on the ragged edge, anything else pales in comparison.
They put a different dimension to it, brings out the sorrow of the lyrics in a heart wrenching way. Too many friends aren’t here now and this song reminds me of them

Survivor's Remorse is tough to deal with and some never put it behind them. Believe it or not, sometimes dying quickly isn't the worst thing that can happen to you. I raise a glass to my veteran brothers and sisters that served, never forget those that went before us.

I have watched interviews with WW2 veterans or any war veteran and you can see the 80 year old man breaking down and crying over lost buddies and the horrors they lived through.
The depiction of survivors guilt in this video is very emotional.
Yes, they are still making music, their latest album is "Afterlife", released in 2022. "Judgement Day" from that album is another one of their "story" videos about human trafficking.

The original(The Offspring) started getting airplay around the time my Grandmother was dying from leukemia. In the Summer of 1997, she died July 5th of that Summer. And this song, whether it's The Offspring or FFDP that sing it, makes me think of her. So YEAH, emotional song for me either way, she is missed to this day. Anyway... Other songs from FFDP to check out, in my opinion would be "The Bleeding", "Under & Over It", "Got Your Six" & "Welcome To The Circus" to name a few. It's a pretty good rabbit hole to dive into. The assistance and help offered to vets when they come back home could be so much better. I have buddies that were over there and there stories are jaw dropping, luckily they never went through too much, didn't see much action. But unfortunately others aren't as lucky and it haunts them everyday, I've heard the stories and it tears at the soul.
Coming down will tear you apart. Every time I hear the song, I picture the video in my head.
I don't know if anyone pointed it out, but he was a spotter for landmines. He knows it's his fault his friends died. It's essentially a feeling of "i killed my friends."
He was like many of us thinking we come home with our friend but only came back with pain and nightmares
This old vet, with TBI and PTSD, was homeless for 3 years and now existing under a VA program for homeless vets, yeah this hits hard. Salute to my brother and sister veterans.
I know that the video clip relates to the military but this song hits home for me as I lost my daughter at 21 weeks pregnant and this is the song I used at her memorial and it’s one of my favourites one because I love FFDP but also because it’s in memory of my daughter

its okay to cry. Its a really hard song to get through. Its right up there with AIC's nutshell, nutshell, the offsprings original song, or some of the songs Ive listened to from cold.
Even cold has a song called "Gone away, a song for starr" which is a reference to one of the band member's daughter passing. Staind had some badass songs that you want to curl up in a corner, down a bottle of jack and cry your heart out.

Had a Marine friend die in the explosion at the Kabul airport when we were pulling out of Afghanistan back in 2021. This song still makes me think of them. Semper Fi
Edit: I say we to mean as a military and as a nation. I served with those on the ground that day but I wasn't deployed with them in Afghan.

I could be wrong, but I think Five Finger Death Punch is officially done as a band. I believe they said that their last album was their final one.
Dexter Holland, lead singer of the band The Offspring, wrote this song about a close female friend who passed suddenly.
The man is experiencing Survivors guilt....him & his friends all enlisted but he is the only one who " came home " alive...and the ptsd hit him also ............
The black bracelets he was wearing at the end, are traditionally worn by service members who lost a friend or unit member while serving. My son wears one for one of his friends lost during their deployment in Afghanistan. Thus the elbow nudge given by one of the soldiers in formation when he arrived. It is a sign of respect.
You should definitely review "blue on black" it's a must.
I went to high school in Kentucky with the guitar player . I was a sophomore and he was a senior . And I would watch his local band Hymen and Skeleton Krew . Crazy !!!

It's called survivor's guilt that's why he was freaking out at that one point in the video and then those three black bands on his wrist show that he personally knew and witnessed three people die in his command That's why the video shows those three guys lined up and they nod at the wristbands to acknowledge that this guy had served and seen some things and survived and therefore he was returning to seek retribution or make up for him surviving and them dying

The last news I read was the singer was leaving the band for his FAMILY, putting them first. If still true I doubt they will continue, cause his voice makes the sings better.

So I know videos like this one and Wrong Side of Heaven are probably hard for you to watch. But I just wanted to take a minute to ask you to thank your husband for his service for me. And I would like to to say thank you for yours as well.
Many people don't realize that when a husband is serving in the military, their wife is serving as well. Pulling double duty at home, keeping positive for family and friends, and not to mention all the worry. Especially if they are deployed. Military wives should be recognized so much more than what they are.

I think another one that you should review outside of this band is the song by Metallica the video confusion about a modern day, female war veteran, nearly paralyzed with post trauma stress as she tries to re-integrate into the civilian world . I know you would not be disappointed.!

When my brother took his life I remember hearing a car pull up and looking out seeing 2 cops getting out of the car removing there hats coming to my door I live 18 hours from my family so it really broke me
I came Back From Conflict....and I never ever came back to " A Heroes Welcome"
It's not just seeing how you lose someone or something... but the fact that because of you those lives were lost... If you look closely at the scene before the hunvee explodes, the protagonist of the video walks in front of the vehicle at a walking pace... this is to ensure that there are no explosives on the road and the truck can go without problems... but we see that one of those mines passed into his sight, and the hunvee stepped on it... This is rather what causes the pain in the soldier... a mistake that led to the death of his three friends....

As much as I love FFDP's interpretation of this song, the original song was written and performed by Offspring. Dexter Holland, the main singer, wrote it after losing his girlfriend in a car crash. It was a coping mechanism.
MRS LILLY!!! If you read nothing else, read this and let me change your perspective! Hopefully you see this and it will help open your eyes to an entirely new way of seeing this video. You nailed it with Survivors Guilt, but WHY he has it is a little bit different then what you might think or realize. Go back and watch it a little more closely. He has TWO cases of Survivors Guilt. 1) The scene where they are all watching sports and having a good time and the news clip comes on, Survivor (my name for him going forward) is the one standing and pushing his friends to go and sign up. FFDP does an AMAZING job of showing this by going from person to person to person of the Fallen Brothers that Survivor loses. He feels solely responsible for them BEING there. He pushed them to it. This is very common every time America is attacked, 9/11 is the most recent one which I believe is the inspiration for their joining, but it goes as far back as the Japanese sneak attack at Pearl Harbor. Many friends and brothers signed up back then, look up The Sullivan Brothers when you have a moment (Navy man here.) 2) Back on track, his second case, and the one that will weigh in heavier on Survivor, is he FAILED his brothers. He was running point. That IED they drove onto, it was HIS job to spot it and prevent that from happening.
So you have a double whammy of Survivors Guilt for Survivor, he caused them being there and he caused their deaths. The actor for Survivor did an amazing job embodying the rage and hatred for himself that he has after this astounding loss.
Apologies for the long post, but I wanted it to be clear just how tactically deep this song is. I know there are many veterans who fall right into Survivor's footsteps. I pray for their mental fortitude to never waiver and to not become one of the 22.
To answer your question, HELL YES FFDP IS STILL GOING STRONG!!!! You seem to be someone who has high moral character, so check out their latest song, Judgement Day.
FFDP using their music videos to help portray their meaning and interpretation behind their music, but naturally, like any good artist, tell their fans that it is all on them for how they perceive it.
Judgement Day is an amazing addition to their musical and theatrical work.

There was a time when I would've given my life for what I thought this country stone for. Now I would give my life to protect those close to me from what this country has become.
Not many covers do the original justice. As Vet, this one definitely does. And the Offspring are one of my favorite bands.
