- In this video see the Seagate external hard drive review and setup. The Seagate External Expansion Hard Drive with 6TB is compatible with Windows and MAC computers. You will also see the Seagate external HDD being unboxed quickly, then connected to a ACER Desktop and then speed tested with Crystal Disk Marks for read and write speeds. The Seagate expansion desktop drive comes in different storage sizes, 4TB, 6TB and 8TB. Seagate expansion portable USB 3.0 HDD is a mechanical drive but runs quiet and fast.
The Seagate external expansion 6TB HDD is great for backing up important files and game storage. Seagate external hard drive PC gaming drive is also great for storing tons of games and video editing storage. This might be something to consider for a external hard drive xbox one gaming boxes. And this USB 3.0 external hard drive from Seagate can also work very well as a Apple drive or a External MAC drive for expanding your MAC laptop computers storage too.
As far as pricing goes for external hard drives (HDD) this one I consider to be one of the best budget external hard drive you can purchase today. Seagate is a top brand name that has been making internal and external hard drives since the early 80's. I've been buying and using there hard drives ever since I can remember and they have always been reliable and long lasting. But keep in mind Western Digital has been a great hard drive brand for just about as many years as well. Both the Seagate external drives and Western Digital external drives are both great to be used on Windows and Apple MAC computers for data storage drives and data backup drives. These might not be the fastest external drive you can buy but it sure is budget minded and solid hardware. So in summary this Seagate external hard drive PC is pretty good for all my required computer backups, hard drive game storage and computer storage or laptop storage needs. And especially for Apple music, Apple gaming storage space because this Seagate hard drive HDD is Apple MAC and Microsoft Windows compatible.

Thanks alot for telling how fast it is because many sites does not do it. This means a lot because I am maybe going to buy one soon. Thanks. :)
Glad I could help!
I got one for my ps5, and it works people.
Just downloaded 300gbs worth of games to my new 4TB device and it only took 30 mins, my internet is 10mb/s so I was impressed. Kept up at 150 MB
What... 300gb with 10mb/s?? in 30 min?? You would need 1333mb/s to download 300gb in 30 min
@@ExtremeDKGamingI think, by downloading, they meant copying 300gb to their new 4Tb HDD. At 150Mbps, It would take around 34 mins. So it checks out.
The only problem with this drive is that it has no active cooling and tempts can get up to 59C under stress. Best to put a fan on low speed pointing at the vents if you're doing extended testing.
Yeah, I bought one and didn't trust it enough for long term storage. Not due to temps, but noise coming from it. It was thumping and clicking loudly during SeaTools self-test and was audible while idle as well.
Of course the thumping noise could have been the arm inside moving back and forth at speed, but I want no part of that lol.
@@terrapinflyer273 If you're hearing thumping, you got a regular Exos enterprise data center HDD inside. WD Ultrastar HDDs are the same way. The newer generation of Exos Mach.2 dual actuator HDDs on the other hand are whisper quiet even during butterfly test.
@@bobbymoss6160 At this point I'm planning to save up a bit more and buy 2 or more bare drives along with an external enclosure or two. Either WD Blues (previous gen, as I've read the newest gen have some issues) or some higher end CMR drives. Seems like it's always a gamble though, so WD Blues might be the better choice for me. Save the extra money for the next replacement lol - or addition.
@@terrapinflyer273 I have a WD Blue WD80EAZZ 8TB in my main PC with the weird 5640 RPM, which is the new gen. Performs well, works like budget NAS HDD. Should've bought 2, because they cost 30% more now.
Hi mate, how long was the connection cable that you got with it?
Thanks bud
4 feet in length.
Very useful. Thanks.
Glad to hear that!
My harddrive is the 6 tyrabyte and idk y but it keeps freezing up my pc
the amazon reviews are shit and never cleared anything up, so this tutorial really has made my. Day and helped me so much thank you so much! ✌💯😎
Thanks sir for this. Can you please answer this - 1. It mean whenever I need to transfer my phone data to this Hdd, I need to transfer via computer than I can unplug right?
2. Is this Hdd better than regular seagate or wd passport. Recently my fell off and lost lot of data, although under warranty so will get a replacement. Kindly reply. Thanks 😍🌹❤️
1) Yes. 2) This HD is great for large low cost storage requirements in the 4TB to 8TB where HD storage space is more important then HD speed.
@@nickscomputerfix I loved your prompt reply. Thanks much ❤️❤️❤️
I bought a 10tb version of this and I have 200kb/s internet speed. do you think that I can fill it up in this lifetime?😂😂
I think you can
Kilobytes?? I wonder how long it might take to actually download a whole 10TB over 200kb/s lmao. And that speed might also be variable depending on your connection, server-side connection, and whatever you might be downloading.
no 😂
in days that would be 57.87 days
@@terrapinflyer27357.87 days
The Seagate external hard drives are actually faster than people think for downloading games. On PC, the hard drive works to reserve space and then downloads at decent speeds despite it being a hard drive. I get on average 200mbps download speed through the hard drive which is really good. If you really want to take advantage of your internet download speed then I highly recommend really good internal ssd storage.
Or just get better internet geg
@yourussianfriend5115 It has nothing to do with better internet. A hard drive can limit your download speeds severely. My SSD can take 400mbps, while the hard drive is only limited to 180mbps at most. You can have 1gbps internet and still be slow because of the limits of a hard drive.
@@StormRaid417 have you done any research? are you restarded?
@@RusRus72 I have done research. A hard drive can have a limited download speed.
How do you copy and transfer to the driver?
Copy and paste manually or use backup software.
Is this external hard drive compatible with the nvidia shield tv pro mediaplayer?
This is from SEAGATE website: SEAGATE Expansion drives requirements: Windows 10 or higher, or Mac OS X 10.12 or higher operating system, and 1 available USB 3.0 port (required for USB 3.0 transfer speeds).
any idea why my 6TB drive only shows 1.81TB writable storage?
No, 1.81TB sounds more like a 2TB drive storage.
I'll probably just get the 5TB since it is available as a portable harddrive
There's a difference in the drive type though. CMR Vs SMR. Long story short, SMR slows down over around 50% capacity where CMR does not due to the way they write data.
Question: I thought about buying this exact drive, and am curious if I can back up 2 computers onto this one device?
Sure you can. Depending on how large each computer backup is in total size of course.
just bought the same drive, connected to USB 3.2, tested it and.. I'm getting 20-30mb write speeds in crystaldiskmark, tried with NTFS and exFat and still the same, what is wrong, should I return it?
Some things to consider: The speed that you will get depends on several things: the Seagate HD drive speed of course, the speed of your USB port 3.x or 2.x, the speed of your internal drive: HD or SSD, the speed of your laptop/desktop computer (CPU) processor, your laptop/desktop drivers (updated or out of date) and USB cable quality. Large files being transfer to and from the drive will transfer slower then many small size files. The speed you will get on upload verses download transfers to and from your computer will be different. The speed will also be different on different laptops/desktop computers because of different hardware and software. And of course you might have a bad Seagate external drive too.
picking Better Performance in the device Policies and enabling write cache on the device solved my issue.
Does the 4tb version of this run as fast as your 6tb version or is it slower?
They both should be close in read and write speeds under ideal lab conditions. However, in the real world your speed will vary based on your USB port speed and your computer overall performance.
I have the same HDD with 4 tb version. The sound is killing me. I have a very queit environment, my computer is dead silent too. No Hard Drives besides this device... There is always a "Hissssss" noise. And it wakes up from sleep constantly without a reason. And when it is working it has head killing sound. I ran lots of tests, copied big chunks of data, and using the drive for almost 2 months. No problem there, but could this noise means I have a defective unit ? Or is this normal for an HDD. I had external HDDs before. Nothing comes close to this HDD in terms of sound-loudness. What are your thoughts around this ? :)
I have 2 x 6TB drives and they have been running pretty quite and smooth for me. My thoughts are: some HDD drives do make more noise than others. However, based on what you have said "when it is working it has head killing sound", that is not a normal sound that you should be hearing from a HDD. So you might have a defective HDD. I suggest you might consider replacing it and/or contacting Seagate for warranty replacement.
Do you need to use the wall cable?
The wall cable is the external power supply cable that needs to be plugged into a electrical wall outlet.
Glad I returned the one I had purchased at Walmart. Same 6TB model, but it was loud. Thumping and ticking while running the self- and generic tests via SeaTools. The readout from CrystalDisk looked odd to me also. No power on time prior to me powering it up, but numbers looked like were all over the place. Think there might have even already been reallocated sectors.
I am curious how quiet yours is, while idle and while transferring data or running a self-test. Maybe I was just being overly-critical of my purchase. But, when it comes to long term data storage, I like my drives to be pristine. Or as close to it as possible, as far as I can tell lol. idk. HDDs are great for long term storage, but dodgy by nature.
Yes, HDD are great for your apps data storage and data backups. Lots of storage for your dollars. The two 6TB that I bought from Walmart have worked perfectly and are very quite. Data transfer speed is what you would expect from a HDD. You might of gotten a defective one (poor quality control) off the assembly line. Theses HDD's are not all made in same factory or country anymore. That happens a lot with all computer devices these days with all computer companies.
Do you still recommend the product, I just ordered it
Yes I do. I still have the two 6GB drives and both continue to work great for me. I use them for backups and storage.
@@nickscomputerfix i bought 4tb i m gonna put my videos that i m gonna took in my vacation 😅
Do i need to keep it plugged to use it ?
When not in use, you can leave it (USB) unplugged and power unplugged. I use mine as storage and data back up and only copy onto them once a week. So I leave mine unplugged and power off until I need to use them again.
How about the temperature when you copying file?
Stays cool temperature. Barely warm. Unless you continueosly write to it for long time.
Can you use this with a phone and transfer photos from phone to hard drive? Or is this for a computer only?
You can if you get a USB adapter for either USB C android or Lighting for iPhone.
@@nickscomputerfix thank you for you help! Great video also!!
@@nickscomputerfix Someone wrote: "I bought the 6TB version and after filling half of it, the transfer speed slows down significantly, even to 1MB/s. If you queue up several TB for copying, it will definitely get stuck along the way, causing errors that need to be fixed using 'Repair Disk' in Windows (these are not bad sectors because there are none on the disk). The system froze many times because of this disk, as it stopped responding and I had to reset the computer. I tried different formats like the default exFAT, NTFS, etc., with and without caching, but the problem seems to be with the disk itself." I really want to but this 8TB drive, but I'm afraid it'll turn out it's a scam
Sorry for the dumb question but does this work with a laptop or does it need to be used with a desktop?
Yes it will.
@@nickscomputerfix awsum! thanks a bunch!
Did it work with your laptop
@@roshanjaiswal1759 it works with laptops. the only problem is if you take the laptop with you everywhere you go, then its a pain to be ejecting and unplugging the external memory everytime. but if you dont move around with your laptop and use it as a desktop then thers no prblm.
point is it does work with laptops.
hope that helps.
can i connect to usb port in TV ?
Yes, it will work on Smart TV's with built in media app and streaming functions and with a USB port.
Does this work in the USB port on 4K TVs?
It does.
If the drive is plugged in to a electrically powered USB hub with it's own power adaptor, is the power adapter still required for the drive to work? Thank you.
USB port does not provide enough volts for this Seagate External drive. You will have to use the power supply plug that came with it.
@@nickscomputerfix Thank you.
I heard these also work with PS5? Any thoughts on that?
This is from SEAGATE website: SEAGATE Expansion drives requirements: Windows 10 or higher, or Mac OS X 10.12 or higher operating system, and 1 available USB 3.0 port (required for USB 3.0 transfer speeds).
@@nickscomputerfixYou really didn’t answer his question.
I heard it was one of the recommended drives for the PS5 from other sites but I am not sure I wanna buy one. Have you tested it out? Heard it was used.
I’m thinking about storing my active ableton files on this as my computer is only 500gb, so I want access to this whilst working on my projects, would you recommend this or is it more a device to backup files per say?
It's best for data storage and backup that you only plan to access occasionally. If you need fast speed access to your files then this Seagate external hard drive may not be suited for your Ableton files. You might want to look into a an external SSD drive. Here's a do it yourself external SSD case, just add a SSD drive and you are all setup and ready to go, you will get very fast access to your files. In my video you can check it out: "SSD Case Review and Setup - USB SSK M.2 NVME SSD Enclosure Case" ruclips.net/video/TQwKFFFc5dU/видео.html
@@nickscomputerfix oh nice one, I don’t fully get the idea tho, so will this be able store all my ableton files?? How come the size of memory it holds not mentioned and is that even a thing?
@@nickscomputerfix I’ve done some research now, I understand the principle, thank you for that though, I would have never known!!!
👍😎
Is it chargeable or Direct on power connector
Direct. Needs wall power outlet.
would this be ok for pc gaming?
Great for Game storage and Data back up storage. Not good for active gaming access. Drives are to slow for active gaming.
How much storage we get out of the box?
You will get 5.45TB of usable storage space on this 6TB drive, after Windows format on this drive is done.
thank you
You're welcome
@@nickscomputerfix I have a specific question for you. Is it possible to make your own server out of it if connected to a computer and let's say stream your own movies from another device, and if so, can it be free? Maybe you can make a video on that. :3
Older computer. Will it work with USB 2?
Absolutely. 100% backward compatible with USB 2.
@@nickscomputerfix Thanks. And I just subscribed.
Thanks for the LIKE and SUB, it's Appreciated! 👍😎
Is it very noisy or is it silent?
Mine are pretty quite to me. But they might not be to you. Depends on what sound levels you are use to.
my pc doesnt recognize it
Suggest trying it in a different USB port on your computer or on different computer/laptop. They work perfectly on my 3 laptops and 1 desktop.
Just bought a new one but its 12Tb while i'm transferring fils to it it kinda make strong vibration is that normal
Large storage size mechanical hard drives can produce a large amount of vibration when constantly being written too for long periods of time.
Is Desktop (6Tb/8TB) External Hard Drive work on Laptop
It sure does.
@@nickscomputerfix TNX bro for reply ( On a pic there is written --- Bring extra Terabyte to your Pc or Laptop ) and I have Laptop that's why I am asking
Hey, can I ask if its good for gaming??
This doesn't work with a laptop. I tried everything that RUclips recommends doing to get it to work and it still fails. I ended up deleting the apps I had installed to see if it works. Now I have to return it because of that. Dissatisfied customer. Now that tells me that Seagate isn't a reliable brand.
Both of my 6GB drives work perfectly on my desktop and 3 laptops.
can i use this in laptop too?
yes
Would this work on Linux?
Windows and OS Mac
Seems really annoying having to plug it into normal power supply.. my other external hd can just be plugged into USB and that's the end of it
Cmr or smr drive ?
SMR
@@nickscomputerfix for sure? I found reports that they are putting their Seagate EXOS x18 inside which is CMR. You can check the serial number of the drive inside using some software tool.
So I just bought one of these today 8TB. It shows up on the USB connection but not in the file explorer. When I open it up in the system manager it shows it’s only a 150GB
Trolled nobody award
Can you use this on a ps4?
I believe just Laptop and PC.
I am using it on my Xbox One and it works
Could it be used on an xbox?
I would look for a faster drive like a SSD for your xbox.
Yes you can
