I must say, it has always been quite awkward when franchises crossover despite having nothing alike. It's like Call Of Duty doing a Family feud crossover that allows you to play as Steve Harvey. Just why? Granted, there are some that kinda make sense like the MTG x LOTR crossover because they both have the same atmosphere. But most of the time, crossovers just seem like obvious publicity that tries to disguise itself as something the community wanted.

If you look at the original skins that were released for Fortnite, they’re made by modelling over or changing parts of the existing default characters (IE: changing the colour of the shirt, adding an extra accessory or two). Once they went beyond this, thats when it started going downhill.

Honestly, I've always seen this "everything's always copying Fortnite" stigma be labeled as the catalyst for modern gaming, while I feel as though this has been the case since the early 2010s or even back towards the arena shooter days. The gaming industry has been following the latest trends for quite a while now, before battle royales and battle passes it was lootboxes, and before that it was arena shooters, and before that was platformers. Granted, the "copy what was popular" trend was recognized by when Fortnite BR released because of technological restrictions and untapped potential in design during the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. We admittedly had a lull in the mid to late 2000s as everyone somehow was doing their own thing, (unless you count the revamps which tried to make everything edgy after DMC or modern Ninja Gaiden,) but the excuses I brought up earlier started to lose weight by around the 2010s when FIFA introduced lootboxes.

I’ll never let them live down what they’ve done to rocket league. Genuinely loved that game and exclusively played it for a couple years probably and now it is the exact same game but with an atrocious battle pass every season, a new menu that sucks, and no trading. 😢

I don't know if someone has said it in the 3 months of this video being out, but tf2 crates do not equal llamas from Fortnite. Llamas care earned for free through daily quests while tf2 is entirely paid.
Though it is good to note that Save the World also has free skins as well as these llamas, and nothing from Save the World is connected to the battle royal mode nor the other Roblox like games.
Companies need to learn I don’t want to play as some popular celeb and grind out a battlepass.

As another come,not pointed out I believe that this “Fortnite-ification” trend has been present for a while. I believe it inherently comes from modern game companies caring (a bit too much) about monetization. When crates/gambling were first brought into being a decade ago they were immediately picked up by many games. Same goes for In-app purchases. When Fortnite released back in 2017 it was great and something many took note of is how monetized the game, primarily with its battle pass and easy-to-access market for cosmetics. I believe Fortnite is one of the biggest influences on modern gaming, when they popularized battle passes, many followed suit, when they started adding characters who had nothing to do with the game, so did other games. I think if there’s ever gonna be another well loved shooter game in the future, they WILL have to branch off from the modern meta

yeah, its getting to a point where cross collaboration is no longer a cool exception or gimmick but almost as a norm in most forms of media; I have always given fighting games a pass because collaborations/guest characters have been a thing since Soul Caliber 2 from the earliest I know of, but when it feels like EVERY gaming studio feels the need to put some SuPeR EpIc CrRoSoVeR or some kinda SiCk BaTtLe PaSs its no longer cool anymore and just dilutes the game of what it already is.
Crossovers should always be an exception, not the expectation

I hate that games like fortnite do so many crossovers to the point where the game barely has any of its own content or face and tries to profit off of trends or some other things that have mainstream success
It's fine in games where crossover is the main selling point (e.g. Smash Bros), but yeah, too many collabs in Fortnite have made me agree with you on that.

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks crossovers and collaborations are just not that special anymore. I mean some of them are still nice, I think event quests in Monster Hunter are neat, but most of them time they're either just whatever or outright unappealing. They just happen too frequently and are no longer special because of it.

That's why I respect games that, if they have battle passes, can give them to you for free, of course the game has to be paid, but I'd rather spend $20 on a good game than $20 on a battle pass in Fortnite or COD
the fortnite battle pass is $8 and if you buy it once and complete it you can get all the next ones infinitely
