The fact that the Dr., who is absolutely central and essential to the story, couldn't attend the Oscars for fear of his life tells you everything you need to know about how powerful this documentary was.
for real man. The Movie changes world wide view of Olympic. the fact that those who were directly involve, Especially Our man G. Rodchenkov, i hope the best for him. risking his live for truth.
What i loved about icarus is that the story it told was not the story it was suppose to tell. They got sucked into the plot of the doping system in a larger scale, much larger than what they were expecting. Making it raw and genuine and so powerful
Icarus was incredible and absolutely ground-breaking. This is investigative journalism, not just documentary. Rodchenkov risked his life for this and it deserves to get all the publicity in the world.
just finished watching icarus, amazing documentary, it blew my mind away. it was unlike any documentary i've ever watched, and despite not being a sport aficionado it has a way of approaching the subject without making you feel any less knowledgeable about it. it definitely deserves this award and much more! i hope dr. grigory is fine wherever he is, such a brave and inspiring man ❤️
It's an amazing documentary. During the oscars I was watching this and thought "yeah what ever", and then I stumbled over it on Netflix and I got sucked into it completely.
Who knew in 2021 Netflix who won an award for best Documentary feature won't release Bryan Fogels The Dissident as they bow down to their Saudi masters
The biggest difference between Russia and any other sport dominant country, is that in russia is more corporative and the "responsable" ends up dead normally, is exactly the same (without the killin, which happens later) with the USA for example. But who cares right
I won't say Icarus was the wrong choice, but the Oscars really missed their chance to give Agnes Varda a real Oscar here. A chance they should've taken many years earlier, and which they'll never have again
The only thing i didn't like about the acceptance speech is by putting the subject of the documentary as a Victim. He isn't one, he is as criminal and guilty as the rest of the responsables.
I’m from the former Soviet Union and I can tell you that if your skills are in demand, which they were for Gregory - refusal to comply with the state means that your life is at risk, you’re at risk of going to jail, or at the minimum at risk of receiving some form of severe punishment. Given that the stake of compliance here was good medals in the Olympics Putin would have to make an example of someone like Gregory given his significance.
@@Shibobol I never tought a comment a made years ago would be the objective of an attack, it is just my opinion and i think it should be respected. I don't think i deserve this attacks. But if you guys felt offended for a comment i said, i apologize to all of you. Sorry for expressing my opinion and my toughts, I would never do that again.

This documentary just shows how scary and powerful putin is
And how he can never be found guilty or stopped in any way
Free Russia from Putin

Interesting point
Icarus has great writing. It was the first feature-length Netflix Original to win in this category.
Before Greta Gerwig directed Laura Dern in Little Women !! 😭💕
Ok?
In Russian they still say "there's no new evidence, therefore not proven" 🤦🏼♀️
Maybe when a Russian language documentary wins Best Documentary, then we’ll talk
just finished watching this on Netflix 🏆🏆🏆
This reminds me of the Snowden doc, a massive story being told by a hands on whistleblower, such an amazing documentary!
Well deserved.
Really need to see Faces Places, will do in when it comes out in June in the UK.
Who knew in 2021 Netflix who won an award for best Documentary feature won't release Bryan Fogels The Dissident as they bow down to their Saudi masters
One can feel sympathy for Jamal and be loyal to Saudi as well
Fabulous dresses
Wow this is the greatest speech in the oscars. Such sincere happiness.
Well done, Icarus, for winning the Oscar. Just don't fly too close to the sun!
Can’t there ever be a French language documentary that would win this award?
Icarus was a masterpiece, do yourself a favor and watch it on Netflix. It deserves every inch of this award.
@@betsylaughlin8652 well ok. Thanks to it we got the ROC (Russian Olympic Committee)
Anyone here after reading No Rules Rules ?
I hope Gerwig will win best directing someday
Nah
Because of the movie and the win. We now have the Russian Olympic Committee
I love Greta ❤
Man I was hoping won’t you be my neighbor won. That’s ok
It was not even nominated because this isn't the year it was released
Next the presenting would be reversed when Bryan Fogel gives the Best Director Oscar to Greta for Barbie
What the name of song when they win?
Agnès should have won this.

amt253 we need a French language movie to win Best Documentary
RIP Agnes Varda
Maybe one day a documentary in French will win
One der where the people live of the 16 dislikes
Faces Places deserves this
Yes. Hope a documentary in French will win this
HOW did Faces Places lose?
Did you watch Icarus?
Cause it’s in French
An anti Russia documentary
PRIMER COMENTARIO!!!
Y aquí te descubrió
Deberían nominado el documental 500 Años
I'm only watching this for Jimmy Kimmel and you've cut him out of the whole thing :((

Look up the definition of "State-sponsored"

The brave guy behind the computer... Go to Russia and see what happens if the government “requires” your services
Alice Mestria Pretty sure the person who commented that is already in Russia, disguising his propaganda under a pseudonym.
