Why don't they make a combination of an elbow long armored glove, a small shield around the fist area and a 4-5 inch long spike in the centre?he could defend any strike and deliver blows himself with it.
Sharp spikes are illegal, but what you are describing sounds similar to a punch shield. Which come in various shapes and sizes. The disadvantage with something like that or a punch shield is mainly the extra weight and while good at range, it's cumbersome in close range. Some prefer punch shields some prefer small bucklers for close range fighting. The choice is up to the fighter
