- Dave Taylor shows step by step instructions on how to connect a Windows PC to an HD television using an HDMI cable, then on how to configure Windows so you can watch anything you'd like on the TV directly. This works particularly well for Hulu, Netflix and similar streaming Internet video content.

Brief and to the point. Great for those of us who are Internet handicapped, Thanks so much!
Thanks - top man! Just got a huge LCD TV and have spent a day or so setting up the DVD, Amp, Cable box etc, and your demo for notebook to streaming subscription TV took two minutes - excellent.
Thanks, Dave.
Your teaching style is clear and succinct. I have subscribed to your channel because I'm sure I will be back to draw on more of your expertise! Once again, thanks!
clear concise and easy to follow...thank you so much for your directions...now off to find that lovely little portable HDMI you have....
Great video. We were trying to figure out how to get the video
to show on TV. You showed us by accident I think. We are grateful!!!
Maybe do a video just showing that simple step. Dragging on laptop
to get it to appear on tv. I'm sure others are trying to figure this out too.
Thumbs up! keep up the Great work. Rando
Seemed easy but we couldn't get to work until we watched your video. Thanks for the help!
Thank you.. I just did it and it was worked..
everyone is not computer savvy. So I appreciate things like this because they are easy to do and direct to the point. Hope you make more videos.
dave taylor thank you i have been looking for how to do that for at least 2 days thank you so much
Thank you so much for your helpful video. We had set up the HDMI cord but didn't know about the screen resolution and dragging the screen. Thank you so much!

Thanks this video helped with what i needed.
Thank you DAVE!! I CAN DO THIS! :)
Thanks great knowledge...
Dominic you need to turn digital audio on. you have to find the option in your video card's menu it lists ports you can turn it on with. In nVidia the heading was gigital audio.
thank you so much!
Hi Dave...very helpful..Can you tell me, after the laptop is connected to the TV by way of HDMI, how can I get sound to come through my stereo system? Namely my Bose surround sound stereo?
This was extremely helpful. Except I can only get the sound coming from the laptop. How can I hear the sound directly from my tv?
On a windows laptop.... Click volume on your laptop and select the right sound device. The name of your TV should be listed.
I mean the volume icon on Windows start menu. Next to WiFi icon. Not the volume on the media player.
Thank you... GREAT!!
Thanks for the tip
I am new to HULU, signed up only to find out I cant view it on my TV as I have DISH and it is not supported, but I do have a lap top with a HDMI, so I can hook it up, log into HU:LU and I should be able to view it, is that correct? love the video. Bob
Just updated Win 7 64-bit to Win 10. Have HP G61-320US Notebook, Toshiba 32" HDMI TV, Wireless Router TP-Link, HDMI cable properly set-up, I believe. Can you show proper settings for everything to work correctly, utilizing my TV as a monitor for my laptop--usually how I work. Need Time settings for battery and plugged in, closing the lid of my laptop, screen resolution, and anything else you deem necessary. I usually keep pc plugged in and use TV as monitor. I am signed up for your mailing "Ask Dave Taylor," but haven't seen this explained. Thank you.
Thanks!!
Thanks for the video. It helped a lot.
this was very helpfull thanks
Great job uploading a video with mono audio....
Hi there :)
I'm planning to stream an online live stream show from my laptop on the tv however my laptop has a time restriction that cuts off before the end of the live stream that I can't override because I have forgotten the administrative password!
If the computer locks me out, will the TV continue the stream or will the tv show a locked out screen as well?
Dave, I have an HDTV, but right before HDMI. Can I hook up my laptop to the TV with a mixed cable?? HDMI (computer) to component video and digital audio (TV)
If my HP Pavilion 23 PC doesn't have an HDMI outlet in back, is there an adaptor to connect it to my HDMI TV using the cable I purchased with HDMI on each end?
thank u so much had the waier for a long time but did not know hao to connect to my
tv thank you.,.
THANK YOU
thanks to sharing with us
Nice vid, thanks.
This isnt streaming..... This is just connecting a freaking input wrong wording on intel's part.
Nice work
Thanks so much, all I had to do was connect my laptop to the tv and it automatically connect didnt have to go to the control panel at all
how would you get audio to come out of tv aswell
That isn't streaming, this is simply connecting a second monitor.
Can you help me? I have a hdmi to vga cable and followed your instructions to extend to desktop and set then tv to hdmi 1, yet as much as I try.. the TV display keeps saying no video signal. Please could you help me? Thank you
Thank you. Helped my sis a tons.

HI - I am trying to follow your tutorial but my display does not show 2 screens it shows 1/2?? Any ideas - thanks
love it
These are the days of windows TEN.... Can you do a tutorial on the same issue using 10? It's a bit more complex, I believe. Thanks.
It's same but it's kinda complicated and you need to use weird menus and keybinds
Thanks.
Good video Thanks. Too bad my TV is so ancient it doesn't have that option :(
This is what I need
Does it matter if the screen is bleeding will it still display?
I didn't get the part about how you enlarged the screen view on the tv...something about 11 or ...the audio wasn't clear on my pc.
thank you, thank you thank you dave!!! just by one simple cable. i was struggling for weeks to get netflix right. nobody knew the answer. din't know i had the cable but it was right in front of me in the horizon box of upc wahahahaha, they don't allow streaming netflix on their media box kids are very happy ( and mom too of course ;-)
can I use an elitebook 8460 i5 laptop to stream on twitch? it has a 2540 M CPU, 2.60 GHZ and a 4.00 gb
Reply
that sounds sooooooo good intel WATCH your videos before uploading them
Is there a way to play things on the tv without showing what you're doing on the laptop. I want the people seeing the TV only seeing the video and not all the other stuff.
+Julian Moriarty Use the "Extend" option instead of "Duplicate"
@SeanDR93 Set your hdmi input to 16:9. And resolution to 720 or 1080p. :)
I can connect my HP laptop to the TV using the HDMI cable, and get the audio to come out the TV. BUT I can't get the beats audio equalizer to control the sound coming out of the TV.
buzz lightyear How could it? The TV is not equipped to be altered by Beats software.
presterjohn71 But the audio is originating from my laptop. I thought the HDMI out port was controlled by beats audio. I found out later that the HDMI "out" port bypasses beats audio. My bad.
Hi Dave. My Gateway has only USB ports. Is there a converter available to bridge USB to HDMI?
U should be able to, if your tv has a USB port.
Hello, my laptop doesn't display full 1080p resolution but my tv does, yet isn't displaying my desired resolution, rather it's being displayed in 1366 x 768, what do I do to fix this? I've put it on duplicate and extend, no progress.
Hii, I tried to connect my laptop to my Sony LED TV through HDMI cable, but not getting connected. My query,is whether, any special HDMI cable does it require to do this function or what? And please help me for getting connected.
did your cable have SONY printed on one end? if so, I think it's supposed to plug into the SONY monitor. I think I'm having the same issue.
2:55 -There aren't two screens displayed. Just one. No other one is detected. My computer detects when I plug in the cable. It does the little sound like when you plug in a mouse or something. I am using an HDMI cable. My tv is on HDMI 1. I am plugged into HDMI 1. My HDMI cable does not have a side specified for TV.
same is happening to me .mif you get any feedback pleace reply
hear.
my laptop doesn't detected monitor and AMD HIGHT DEFITION AUDIO DEVICE NOT PLUGGED IN.(window 7 ATI RADEON) Could you help me please?
My Hp laptop has windows vista and my tv is sony flat screen . I followed all the steps connecting the vga cable . When I power everything up , I get a blue screen and the laptop continues to reboot . Does anyone know what the problemmight be ?
Doesn't work. I've watched a ten videos on youtube on how to plug in HDMI cord and change input on TV. I tried two TV's and two laptops. Display settings doesn't detect TV? tried windows update and intel website. Any suggestions? Thanks
graphic card is everything, some TV's are not compatible with the resolution that the graphic card is able to handle and the opposite is also true. Drivers could be the problem some times, but most of the time is a hardware problem.
i got a logik full 1080p 32 inch tv plugged into a 750 ti 2gb and its blurry as hell i could not fix this problem, i plugged it in via vga and got a clear picture something is very wrong with that
i plug in all the cords and then my laptop goes black and i cant hear or see anything and my tv screen still stays blue??? help
If I don't have a laptop available, then what are other inexpensive options? Thx
your phone?
Gisselle Penaloza Kopp let
Windows is always cranky. :-) Sorry, had to say it.
Thanks for the tip! Thumbs way up!!
Take care.
What operating system are you using? With 7 just right click the desktop and select screen resolution and go from there. If you are trying to run a different OS then you have to figure it out for yourself. Actually you should know how to use an older OS in you don't have 7 or 8
bagus....
after connecting and going into control panel it only showes one screen ?
How come once connected, my laptop doesn't detect "display 2"?
Is there any modern way to do this without a cable? I don't want to have to buy an adapter to got onto an hdmi cable just to plug it into my computer.
Buy a chrome cast or roku stick, or lay your head along the train tracks and wait patiently.
Will a usb cord work.?
does this work for any laptop such as toshiba laptop ?
you need a computer that shares audio along with the video. If you don't then turn up the volume on the PC and use your existing speakers.
Mines work perfectly.
Does this work with window Xp ?
yeah about that. Is there any intermediate device betwen TV and laptop because my laptop doesnt have HDMI thing. Sorry for that english though.
The sound for the video only comes out in the laptop right? Not from the TV? Do we need something like a sound cable for the sound to be coming from the TV?
sound comes out the Tv with windows 8.
I remember it didn't for me when i had windows 7 so i guess that's why.
shockle28 I see. Hmm, I'm using Windows 8 as well, but it comes out from the laptop instead. Is there a setting in the laptop I require to change?
Im not sure, but the sound has came out the laptop a couple of times when i first plugged the hdmi in, but i remove the hdmi then wait for ring pause the sound then plug the hdmi back in and wait for the ring to sound from the tv if it sounds from the laptop then it hasnt worked.
You can change the screen settings by going to the "control panel" and clicking "adjust screen resolution" they have screen settings there. hit "detect" when hooked up, my tv comes up as "LG TV" and i select that as the main screen, dont forget to click apply to activate new settings. try different settings im sure you will get there.
shockle28 Thanks! I realised that for the sound to come out from the TV, I have to change the sound settings in Control Panel, where I have to disable the other speakers and enable the speaker for the TV. It worked!
sweet, its much better with the tv sound.
Easy to follow instructions however misleading title. This is not streaming, it's sending data through a wire connection to the TV. I want to know transfer content from laptop to TV wireless.
The fact that you can do this ive been doing it for years makes me wonder why smart tv's even exist i will assume its because not everyone is what you would call tech savy
I did everything correctly but there is no sound coming from my surround sound or even my tv. I turned the volume up on both my laptop and tv but still no sound.. how should I fix tbis
Click volume icon in windows start menu and select your tv name as the audio device.
yeah great ! But have you ever heard about stereo ? :)
He doesn't have any ik
THX Very good
What if when I go to screen resolution I only have one screen and that is my laptop it's not showing a screen for the tv
cable might not be connected properly
Love that at the end it WASNT a Netflix movie!
I have bought this cable only to realize my TV monitor doesn't have this port, is there any alternative cable?
If your TV doesn't have even a VGA port then you won't be able to do it (unless there's a digital box which does something like this)
Jabirupilot1 Aww, I was convinced I would be able to do it. My monitor is a TV/PC LG monitor (I can both watch TV channels and use it as PC). But I can't find HDMI port on it, too bad.
my computer screen is cracked and I think its on safe mode how can I connect it to the tv without seeing anything on my computer
what about amazon?
is this dude Chuck Norris? lol
Bob Seger. jk
Thanks I have lent something
got the picture, but the sound is only coming from my laptop. HELP !!!
