Great show once again. I do have one tip to add about fermenting in mason jars...You can put the jar down in a brown paper lunch bag and keep it on the counter. That will help to keep it in the dark. Happy gardening and fermenting! :)
Hello growing family, love to the Hoss family!! My husband and I just ordered a bunch of seeds from you Hoss so excited to grow your seeds for the first time. Thank you for all the educational video's on planting and canning I bought that too because of mama Hoss. Happy growing you all!!
Momma Hoss, you’re so pretty! Love both of y’all and thoroughly enjoy every show! Time to order some corn and brassica seeds ….this heat is killing me but fall is on the way 🌻🌼
Awesome show, as always! We are so ready for Fall gardening this year. This heat is rough(zone 8a) 🥵 Old Goat is behind Mama Hoss, between the first and second jar.
Old goat. Top shelf on right between canning jars. My right, your left 😉. Enjoyed the show as always! Don’t know what I’d do without y’all. Thank you so much!!
I always get so inspired by your channel. I learned about Hoss Tools by watching That 1870’s Homestead, Fermented Homestead and The Stivers. First year I ordered your seeds and have had 100% germination and my beautiful vegetables are growing. My hossinator plant is still working on giving me some fruit but it will get there I am sure. The old goat is on the top shelf behind Momma Hoss between two jars which I believe are tomatoes.
Just getting started with some fermentation! I made dill zucchini and squash pickles, and some spicy cucumber pickles. The old goat is on the top shelf behind Mama Hoss! 🐐
Drop in any time I'm there.......I ain't easy to find! Great show, as always! Don't forget that "day length" on fall crops! I always add a couple of weeks to the "days to maturity" as insurance. Those shorter days and different sun angles make a difference! Salsa Verde looks delicious! I quit playing "Old Goat" after I won, but dang if I don't find myself looking for him as soon as the show comes on! I see him......
Love all your videos! We watch and enjoy all your gardening and food preservation tips here in Northeast Tennessee. The ‘old goat’ is on top shelf behind Mama Hose on left side of shelf beside what looks like a jar of beets and below a jar of carrots!
The old goat figure is on the third shelf between two jars of tomatoes but the real old goat is in the black shirt to the right of momma Hoss lol. Love yalls show. Hope you have a great fall harvest ☺️
Hello from Jacksonville, Florida! Another GREAT video! I'm sooo looking forward to planting a fall garden! Fermenting sounds interesting. I might just give it a try! As for Old Goat, I believe he was hiding on the wall shelf in between the bottles behind Mama Hoss! Anywhooo... have a GREAT weekend!
Aww shucks. When you were at Stivers, you guys were 30 minutes from me in Manchester. Love watching your videos because you give us such good advice-just as a good neighbor would. Old Goat is behind Sheila in between two jars of what looks like tomatoes.
I finally have enough tomatoes and peppers to make a big batch of salsa to can. I could not miss Old Goat above Sheila's head on the top shelf to the left between the first two jars
The old goat is above the lovely Miss Sheila between the two jars of something tasty made with tomatoes. I assume that what that is. Great show as always!
I do have to tell Mama Haas I made her salsa recipe twice now the first time I made 18 jars pints the second time I can 11 quarts because it was so good and everybody loves it thank you so much for your recipe I was curious about the salsa Verde could I can that just like the your salsa recipe

Looks like the old goat is nested between two jars of tomatoes. Thank you for telling us about the green tomatoes. We really miss not having green tomatoes during the winter time. I will deffinately try that method of preserving. Sounds like you had a really good trip!
Sheila, is there a reason why sometimes your remove the screw top on your canning jars? Those on the shelves behind you have both pieces? Greg, YOU are so correct about some of these homestead/gardening channels! I check out those you mentioned and subscribed. The ONLY Smith Family I know is Jason, Brooke and MaryCarl, Cog Hill channel which is the BEST OF THE BEST. Who is the other Smith Family in Ohio?
In all my years of canning, I never removed them until this year. Not a practice I was taught, but through my research, I have found it is recommened. We love Cog Hill. The Smith family does not have a channel. They are just good friends we met at the HOA conference in Virginia last year.
I got some hot sauce that’s been fermenting for around 3 weeks now. Got a ways to go. The old goat is between the canned tomatoes behind Momma Hoss. Great show as always!
Love the show as always! I have never tried my hand at fermenting but would love to try one day! Oh yea and old goat is hanging out by the jar of veggies on the shelf behind Sheila :)
Shella you are right. Fermentation increases the Vitamin B. Also increases the good bacteria in the lower colon. You do not need a large serving. I try to serve condiment amount 1-2 ounces. I ferment with a crock from Germany. Love your "how to" videos.
Thanks for the tips on fall corn. I'm going to give a go at a small plot this year. The Old Goat is on the shelf above Mama Hoss' head (between 2 quart jars of tomatoes?).
Would you suggest pickle pipes or the valves for a first time fermenter? The old goat inspecting the canning jars. Would love to grow corn just don't have the space. Enjoy your channel a lot of information.
I have a question about growing tomatillos. I tried growing some this summer and it didn’t go well. The plants themselves were beautiful and full of tomatillos. However, some type of pest was drilling holes in the fruit. The papery husk hid the damage and I guess the pest, because I didn’t see them. My question, who was the culprit and how do I eradicate the problem? I love salsa verde and would appreciate any suggestions on what I need to do to have a successful crop.
It could be a potato beetle or tomato fruit worm. Apply spinosad every five to seven days through harvest. Focus on fruits higher up and on the outside of the plant where females prefer to lay eggs. Spinosad may be applied up to one day before harvest. hosstools.com/product/spinosad-garden-insect-spray/ hosstools.com/product/bug-buster-ii/
Hey the old goat is back...above Ms Shelia's head between 2 jars of red stuff...lol Greg, It was weird not hearing you say "The best dadgum garden show on the radio and internet as well"...🤔
Am I supposed to remove the side shoots on my sweet corn? To be specific they are coming up from the base of the plant, not sure if tillers and suckers and side shoots are the same thing? Thanks
The old goat is between the two red quart jars. 🐐 I love to ferment my hot peppers. I call it “Lilly’s garden hot sauce”. I put all the red peppers grown in my garden go into the ferment. I use 2.5% salt, I use a scale, 0 out the weight of the jar, then weigh peppers with the water in grams. Add my salt and cover with a pickle pipe. After it’s fermented, I blend it, then strain out the seeds and skins. I put them into small hot sauce bottles. My family thinks my hot sauce is better than anything you can buy in the store.

@@gardeningwithhoss They sound like what my grandpaw used to grow which when cooked does make the brown broth but the bean turns grey and tastes so buttery and creamy. This is unrelated but I feel someone here may know what to do. My potatoes where looking good then suddenly started dying before blooming. When I pulled up some roots they where full of small holes and tunnels. I'm having issues with ants this year. Could be that? Any suggestions? Thanks 😊
Holes in potatoes are mainly caused by wireworms which are the larvae of click beetles. They tunnel into the potato tuber leaving a hole behind. Methods of control include crop rotation, traps, pesticides, and predatory nematodes. Holes in potatoes can also be caused by hollow heart conditions and white grubs
@@gardeningwithhoss thank you! I was just reading about wireworm being common in sod. This is a new bed so this makes sense. Looks like I'm pulling them and planting mustard. Bummer but live and learn I guess.
