In 4th Ramnath Goenka Lecture, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar delivered a 48-minute masterclass on evolution of India's foreign policy, where India stands now and the way ahead. In episode 317 of Cut The Clutter, Shekhar Gupta explains what it tells us about Modi government's diplomatic vision, strategy & worldview, and one almost hidden nugget he really likes.

" India is too strong to mess with " That's how we Indians want our motherland India to be.
I have heard S. Jaishankar many times, and i never saw any other diplomats with such clarity in thoughts.
@Arun Sar their haven't been as good foreign ministers tho, in my opinion he's the best foreign minister we ever had
@Arun Sar I say he is the best on merit. Of course we have to wait and see what the future holds tho
@@KavateJayesh i agree with you, but a bit difference, Sushma mam was also one of the best.
@@RahulKumar-ng2gh she was definitely the most outreaching one, one with connect with people. But I'd say she wasn't as experienced in diplomacy
Sorry to strike a discordant note;but then a forum of open discussion has never been a one stop shop. As much as I like the FM’s speech, after all he is preaching to the converts. His diplomatic success would rest entirely on converting the non-believers. God knows how many loose ends are there to be tied up. However mellifluous may be the tune he is fiddling. It is the raging fire out there to be doused.
Just the line "India is now too strong, too powerful to mess with" got me to like this video. I just loved it.
*S JAISHANKAR IS A GEM OF INDIA, SO ARTICULATE. NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE ME*
I saw him at a Q&A in the US, he is brilliant. Not just a gem of India, but of all mankind.
1:40 He is referring to SM krishna. Foreign Minister during UPA
He's forgotten the name
@@ias7271 of course he hasnt - he was being polite! good journos dont forget anything - we consider him one.
Lmao!! the infamous SM Krishna...🥵
Seriously... Going to Google him.
And ironically now a part of the BJP.
Hats off to Shri S. Jaishankar, our non-political Foreign Minister for his brilliant analysis of India's Foreign Policy since independence.
“You don’t have to agree on this but that is not the point of CUT THE CLUTTER ...” love that line 👍🏽
Thank you and your team for hard work 🙏🏽
I hv completely heard & watched this Jaishankar lecture. I think Shekhar Gupta is overtly simplifying it. It’s more complex than what Gupta says. Jai shankar also talks about lost economic opportunities & it’s impact on us & restrictions on us due to that.
Nitin Nimkar.Investment you might be right. The idea if cut then clutter is to simplify...sg
Mr. Gupta is at his best in these types of analyses. India is lucky to have Mr. SJ as EAM. Wish the Govt had made a similar choice wrt the FM position, appointing someone with a lot of finance experience.
I must say this is real journalism. No question marks, no breaking news, no personal hate towards particular ideology.
13:32. Brajesh Misra's brilliance deserved a mention

Kudos to the Shekhar gupta and his Team to work out day and night to give everyday insight news...are you guys and shekhar taking day off or not???

Amazing analysis Shekhar Gupata sir as always. I watched entire speech by EAM Jaishankar. I liked his small comment about "Liberal Fundamentalism" and "My reputation is not decided by a news paper in NY". I have never heard such clarity and explanation in only two comments.
Really very good episode by Mr .Gupta ..helping aspirants like me to declutture the international relations for UPSC ...and great to have such a EAM like Mr.Jayshankar having vast experience in foreign relations
This CTC should be included in school courses.....amazing.
I wish, we had a Finance minister too like Mr. Jaishankar.
Bjp in center is the best for India it's a personal view
@Sumeet tanwar We did a project for an elevator company in dubai. All these folks are experts in their line of work, not IT of course. We had to organize a two week hands on training for them about the whole project. In spite of that, it took them a year to get used to everything..
Now, GST is in use by everyone, be it the biggest company or the smallest shop owner that hasn't even passed tenth grade.. How does one expect them to get used to GST in a short while? Of course they are crying hoarse about not being able to use it.. But as I have personally seen with passport applications ( took me 6 months 10 years ago. Its down to two weeks now), it will help eventually..
Morals : idiots need to look long term.. Ditto for NPAs.. Ditto for reforms... ( maybe not try to tax the industries before they grow bigger)..
@Sumeet tanwar fully agreed.
Seb K I perfectly agree with your observation. I believe government should stop thing on CAD and go with spend and stop taxingnleft and right. Give some breather space and act behind the screens. I hope they deal with vested interested people more intelligently
Sir, I wish you had included a ,”chapter” on our foreign policy vis-a vis our neighbours”,too
Sekhar Ji, please accept my respects and its due to the fact that you have credited the episode on this topic to your junior. respect you sir.
Vishnu VV thank you very much. We have a very fine young team at ThePrint and I am fortunate to have them... sg
I feel this is all about his perfect speed of saying things, neither too fast to make u hard to catch up and hence becoming boring nor too slow. Perfect cadence!! Eureka moment😆😆
Even though Mr Jaishankar was diplomat all his life. He is politically very mature. He remains grounded in many ways.
BTW - he isn't talking about Sushma Swaraj at 1:40. He is talking about SM Krishna's speech in 2011. Some clarity what Shekhar missed here.
Spot on
I think he skipped it on purpose to avoid unnecessary controversy
He is talking about Sushma
@@deepakvaidya9074 nope!! It's SM Krishna

The most wonderful aspect of ThePrint is that they working hard to set an alternative to the present scenario in media. Electronic media has poisoned Indian journalism by aligning themselves to ideologies and not to the media ethics.
As a development professional working in the conflict ridden Manipur, I am daily witnessing realities of where we went wrong as a democracy and how things are being shown in media. I have already written to ThePrint through a mail that I wish to work with them. This is by far the only media platform with least or almost no bias in presenting the news. Thank you team ThePrint. Let me know, if there are opportunities in your team where I can contribute. Best Wishes ✌️🌸

@Abhijit Sanyal This is an age old flim flam ploy called "good cop bad cop" routine. Still works wonderfully fine if deniability is uppermost on your mind.
That would be the day ! Though long overdue.
@@aagantuk7370 yeah because aaj tak, times now, india today are champions of media? Media is supposed to keep the govt in check. Not lick the govt foot like they do of Modi.

very informative. Keeping in view the demise of TN Seshan, it would be great if you made an episode of CTC about him, and why we need officers of his calibre and integrity.
Thank you Shekhar sir for improving my knowledge ☺️
Dear Mr.Gupta, would you please discuss topic on Tashkent agreement and mysterious death of our beloved Prime Minister Mr.Shastri. I heard it was a conspiracy. Is it a fact?

Your optimism about Narendra Modi settling border disputer could come true
1. He peacefully settled the enclave problems with Bangladesh
2. He should settle the disputes with Sri Lanka on fishing rights and fishermen problem because it's related to kathatheevu island
3. Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir should be reintegrated with India
4. Aksai chin should be reintegrated with India
5. Clarity on Arunachal Pradesh should be made up
I hope our PM does all this, and I am optimistic towards it too
brillantly put 🙏, very informative 👌
The use of ‘revanchist’ is a very interesting and I’m hearing it a long time after my student days of reading Franco German history. I’d like to hear from Jaishankar how far India could have gone during the Simla days without pushing Pakistan into revanchist path openly. The other issue which I’d like someone to seriously discuss is whether India could’ve done something more emphatic at the time of the impending hanging of Bhutto. Was India’s indifference correct both diplomatically and morally?
Really nice analysis sir. As a IR student it was much useful for me...
