Hands down Sal is the best solo installer on you tube, I am probably 15-20 years younger than him and run a 1 man company, and it's tough to install, sell, schedule, stock, and do the books.... Hats off to Sal for on top of that filming and editing to provide the community correct install methods
I saw you put an extra kerdi ‘washer’ around drain flange. What a smart idea. I have problems in the past with the drain sitting a little bit higher than it should have with thin tile. Great work as always.
I do the exact same thing with the foam strips for the perimeter of my mud pans because I am terrible at not digging into the perimeter after I have it level. I always thought I was a hack for doing it that way. But if your doing it also I dont feel bad! Great video teach!!!
Hi Sal. You deserve much appreciation for sharing your knowledge and experience in this industry. I have taken my business to a whole new level since following your videos. I have a question about your approach to this particular drain assembly. It looked like you added something around the edges of this drain that make it much smoother to lay your small pieces on. Could you please show that in greater detail for us? I think everyone would benefit from it greatly. I have a tough time with small pieces around the edges of my drains and you seemed to have no problem at all with this one. Thanks for sharing all you do.
Great video Sal, love the slim profile stone you used here for the mini curb. Can you please tell me what that type of stone/curb is called and where to find one?
Love that stone curb interface, and thank you for explaining the framing detail, much appreciated !! Would there be any glass across the front, on top of that curb?
Hi Sal, thank you for the wealth of knowledge you share. I have remodeled four bathrooms based on what I have learned from you. I have made a few mistakes but overall I am happy with the results and working to get better. During the video, you did some origami with the Kerdi membrane in order to set the drain grate. May I ask what the reason for that was? I haven’t seen that done before. Thanks in advance!
How do you install the shower drain or flange in your shower specifically if it’s a mud pan? What height does it have to be above the subfloor or can you just put thinset beneath the flange and put it directly on your subfloor? Would you also use screws to level the subfloor for example with a flo fx drain?
Was the kerdi trim around the bottom strictly to have something to screed off of or does it serve another purpose. I believe that is the first time I have seen you do that.
Sal, do you consider foam curbs as reliable as brick/concrete? I'm about to do a tub to shower conversion and want to do a dry pack base, but am debating how to do the curb. Right now I'm leaning toward brick and cement, then Laticrete membrane over everything. Oh, one thing I've never seen addressed is how wrinkles are avoided when applying a membrane to a sloped-in-two-direction shower base.
@@SalDiBlasi Thank you very much for the response, it's so neat to get a reply from The Man himself! I was asking because I worried that a foam curb could deflect under weight and crack the grout. Concerns alleviated!
Thairs a reason wages haven't increased in the tile traid for 20 years. Guy's don't float anymore, it dosen't take much skill to nail up backerboard and slap up tile.
The reason to float walls is to make them Plumb and straight and if you have a proper wall you can use a green board with waterproofing AKA (Schluter) I've had to fix a few mud walls and the old mud pans and you end up taking them out creating more cost for the homeowner. But if your wages have not increased I would look in the mirror because mine have but I have my own company and never have worked for the MAN.

Glad I could help!
Every time I watch Sal do one of these jobs, I think: man oh man, he makes it look like he’s done this before.
Once or twice. 😜😊
Thank you for your videos. The information helped me a lot in understanding how to do a tile job right in my own washroom.
Glad to help

Hi. Thanks for the video. Can you go through the layers of schluter over the drain? Thanks

Tile was very thin, so I added a couple of layers of Kerdi membrane to make up the thickness, Try a FloFX drain, it is much easier to use. flofx.com/
@@SalDiBlasi thanks for your reply. I’ll research the FloFX drain and try it. 👍

Thanks for watching my video.
Hi Sal, another informative video as usual. Can you tell me what those particular spacers are you are using with those 4x12 subway tiles?

First to see tiles on the ceiling
Quick question what type of tin set should I use for a shower floor ?

I use foam curbs all the time, I prefer them, they are stable light and easy to install. Wrinkles are not an issue with a typical shower floor.

Hey Sal, I can’t recognize the layout, did you just made it up? 😉 what’s it called?
Two different size tiles in alternating rows, what the customer wanted.
