Great video. I’ve had my Subsequent 37 for a couple of years now and it’s hands down the most inspiring and tweakable synth I have, and I have a few. The comment on gain staging is spot on. It’s why I never got rid of my Moog Source. It’s the fattest and dirtiest synth I’ve owned. It screams and growls and the oscillators modulate violently against each other. It’s a speaker cone shredder.
Pity that one can’t post photos on YT; otherwise I would show you my Subsequent 37 sitting above an OB-6. They are both amazing, but as different as analog synths can be. You can‘t get that earth-shattering Moog bass out of the OB-6!
From the manual, “The Sub 37’s noise generator produces a signal called pink noise. Pink noise has equal amplitudes in every octave, making it sound deeper than white noise - more like the sound of a waterfall.” Might be analog but I am pretty sure it’s a digital noise source, not that there’s much difference. Thanks for watching Gino! Check out my old video Moog Sub Phatty vs Sub 37. The Sub Phatty is the first version of Sub 25, it’s almost exactly the same but looks different and has less features.
The Sub 25 / Sub Phatty is a great synth, but I go over pros and cons in that video :)
old moogs never relied on sub frequencies to be 'fat'... tbf..
It’s true i would prefer 3 full oscs rather than 2 oscs and a sub but you can get pretty close!
It’s why I never got rid of my Moog Source. It’s the fattest and dirtiest synth I’ve owned. It screams and growls and the oscillators modulate violently against each other. It’s a speaker cone shredder.
Very nice review but the lighting feels horrible :o contrary to your music knowledge there is a lot to be optimised
Haha, in retrospect the footage turned out darker than expected. Check out some of my other videos! Thx for the comment:)
👍👍👍👍👍
❤️❤️
Had one and sold it. Amazing in terms of build quality and overall architecture but i couldnt make myself like its sound… i replaced it with an OB-6 ❤
Fair! You definitely picked a great synth to replace it, I've done 2 videos and a patch bank for the OB-6 and its forever my favourite synth :)
Pity that one can’t post photos on YT; otherwise I would show you my Subsequent 37 sitting above an OB-6. They are both amazing, but as different as analog synths can be. You can‘t get that earth-shattering Moog bass out of the OB-6!
Digital Pink Noise? Uhm… where did you read that?
From the manual, “The Sub 37’s noise generator produces a signal called pink noise. Pink noise has equal amplitudes in every octave, making it sound deeper than white noise - more like the sound of a waterfall.” Might be analog but I am pretty sure it’s a digital noise source, not that there’s much difference. Happy to be corrected!
@@MilesAwayOfficial they don't use any digital signals in the chain. It is analog noise.
@@explosionmonty well…, actually… see the video 4:10… they have a digital noise option. ruclips.net/video/psVN9HmoCQI/видео.html
What reverb were you using? Is that built-in, or an external reverb?
I was using the Strymon Big Sky, its available as both a pedal and plugin. Moog Sub 37 doesn't include any built in FX!
Wasn‘t there a video where you compared this and the little phatty, I can‘t find it anymore?
hey thanks for the heads up! it was hidden from youtube for some reason, it should be back up online in a few hours!
@@MilesAwayOfficial Great thanks! For a moment I was wondering if I was dreaming this ;)
how to get a simple smooth sub bass sound without filter/synth
Agreed the triangle wave on this synth is god tier for sub bass
What about the subsequent in 2024?
I might be crazy but I prefer the sound of the gritty original Sub 37 over the cleaner Subsequent. That's just my 2 cents. But both are great!
@@MilesAwayOfficial i have an option to get an excellent condition subsequent 37 CV Limited edition for $1300, would you say that's worth it? I don't really use CV but seeing how it's limited and I see them going for $2k i may be able to flip if i don't like it
Love it ❤️
Thanks for watching!
I have the Eventide Space with my Sub 37.
Great combo!
Is this the best synth for bass and sub?
For me personally it is. It's just so easy to use, sounds huge, and mixes into any genre easily. Almost all the bass on my new album was made on the Sub 37: open.spotify.com/album/65NNkC1BRl8EtWViffifSX?si=wmeW3m6PQYi7h9Ro1Siptg
@@MilesAwayOfficial Will do - i'm pretty sure every melodic techno artist has one
@@MadelnMachines 100% it’s very popular for that genre. My stuff is more half time/ pop influenced and it’s great for that. I also use it for all my movie trailer music too. It’s genuinely good for any genre

In the 2050's people will wish they kept these. Music gear never really goes out of style.
amen!
What is a "respace"?
Reece Bass! It’s a famous type of bass sound that I show in the video, used in tons of early 90s-2000s rave music and used today still
What reverb was that please
Late reply - Strymon Big Sky on Cloud mode: it's the secret sauce for recording really huge sounding synths :) thanks for watching and subscribe for more
4:10 digital and analog noise sources! 0:12 ruclips.net/video/psVN9HmoCQI/видео.html
I told my girlfriend I’d like a more regular beat frequency …
She told me I’m gonna have to take care of that myself …
That demo tho.
glad you enjoyed! my biggest video yet, 6 best delay pedals, just came out, feel free to check it out too!
Not trollin' here- but 'Moog' is pronounced like 'Rogue'
super synth but my god the pricing is out of touch
agreed it's crazy how much it's gone up in europe! I got mine used back in the day
Is it still worth it in 2023?
Honestly Moog has raised their prices too much in my opinion. If you can get a good deal on one used, 100% its still worth it, but for how much Moog Keyboards cost new now I can't recommend them anymore to most people :/ check out my recent video on the PWM Malevolent! Similar synth and much cheaper :)
I like moog tho
@@nepntzerZer totally Moog is amazing! I'd say buy used then if you can, used prices are still good, but they have raised the new prices by like 30% this year . Some really great deals out there :)
@@MilesAwayOfficial price doesn't bother me. I have so much money it would make elon blush. I can buy anything i want. Anything. Even whole people which I don't but if I wanted I could buy a whole person and a house and just keep them as a pet.
@@nepntzerZer LOL then definitely check out the OB-X8. It's the best synth I've ever played imho
The sub37 sound is so dark that even your video luminosity is affected ! (joking😊)
LMAO - yea was definitely still learning the videography ropes back then. Check out my new videos!
A little PHATTY is… so why not a sub 37
Good point :D
Not worth it anymore. A few months ago this synth cost 1,399 Euro where I live, now the asking price is 2,199 Euro. I know it's more expensive to manufacture under the current climate but, sorry, screw this crap.
Wow that's a huge increase :/ sorry to hear that. All synths or only Moog?
@@MilesAwayOfficial Most, even Behringers. The only one that has challenged this trend is ASM Hydrasynth. Moog and Sequential have seen some of the biggest hikes.
A few days ago I got a black Matriarch for 1999 € from Session Music in Germany. The coloured one costs now 2199! Strange things are happening not only at German gasstations, where diesel is now much more expensive than gasoline… Thanks for the review. The Sub 37 is really a perfect live solo synth!
you young kids nowadays inventing synth terms like 'awsk". smh
Stopped the video 5 seconds in when you mispronounced Moog.
that's unfortunate
Tell me you’re pretentious without telling me you’re pretentious….
“Moog” as in “Rogue”…not Moooog
