    This is the power of modularity with the immediacy of a self contained instrument. Detailing the underlying philosophies and design goals that culminated in the realization of the Sub 37 Bob Moog Tribute Edition paraphonic analog synthesizer, this video explores the vast modulation possibilities and sequencing options available via the front panel.
    This video contains complex harmonic content that may be difficult for your computer speakers or phone to reproduce.
    We recommend using a high quality set of headphones for the proper listening experience.

    Would love to see more Moog Sub 37 and Mother 32 videos that help us understand the more complex options of these synths, more hidden functions, useful techniques, settings, etc. I have both of them, but am a little intimidated as to how to get the most from them.

    I have owned the Moog Little Patty, a few Taurus versions and the Voyager. The Sub 37 is the first Moog synth I've been truly happy with, and it has lead me to sell most of my other synths. It has a vast range of features, that beautiful and full analog sound, and a look that will inspire you to use it. Paired with a Moog MF Analog Delay it will blow your mind.

    This demo video is what pushed me over the edge as I was considering buying the Moog Sub 37 Tribute Edition analog synthesizer. I was looking at the Elektron Analog Four, and the Gotharman's Little deFormer, which I will still purchase later this summer, but the Sub 37 abruptly usurped them both and rose to #1 priority -- due to this video primarily.

      The Analog Four/Keys is a masterpiece. But I'm a sucker for the Elektron stuff. If you haven't gotten one already, I highly recommend trying it out. I sequence my Sub-37 from the Analog Keys, and their tonalities sound wonderful together.

      HighMonkeyMonk Sorry for the late response. He programmed a sequence and has only set one note value per step while playing in duo mode, so that the second oscillator can be played by hand, but still depends rhythmically on the sequence.

    Hi thanks vor the vid! I got 2 questions remaining. I hope someone can answer them! first: can you record live? that is: play in the sequence live with the keyboard while the the midi clock from external gear is running? and the second question: what happens when you switch between sound banks, do you loose the midi clock (from external gear)? by that i mean: when you chained the sub 37 as a slave to the master device and wanna play another sound bank while the whole thing is running, do you loose midi clock? Because obviously if you are a live act you don't wanna change to another bank and suddenly loose midi while you are playing live because then you have to restart the whole set up...

    Does anyone know how this instrument interfaces with a computer? Can you use a midi input on your audio interface to hook it up or does it require some kind of special mixer or interface? I'm pretty new to the world of synthesizers, I know this is a noob question, but any insight would be appreciated.

    • @5cre4my
      @5cre4my 7 лет назад

      Andrew Forbes yes u can use the midi port of ur audio interface and route the signal for example into daw like ableton. there a plenty of videos on youtube where this is simply explained

    • @MrCshmn
      @MrCshmn 7 лет назад

      I would recommend a usb audio device with a midi in/out port on it. you can get midi in and out of this device with a usb lead but you need to get audio in and out too. some audio devices do not have midi ports. this does midi over usb but unless you have already sorted out your audio you will be in trouble. if you are new to this i would recommend getting a USB sound card that has midi and a Korg volca to learn about all the midi and audio stuff. or you will end up buying an amazing synth but getting frustrated because it won't sync up or work properly with your other gear.

    • @TheAndrewforbes88
      @TheAndrewforbes88 7 лет назад

      Ian Cashman I'm not new to recording or audio gear, I have audio interfaces that will work based on these responses. I have just never used an analogue instrument like this. I didn't know if I needed any special kind of DAC or mixer or something. I really appreciate the responses!

    • @MrCshmn
      @MrCshmn 7 лет назад

      Just plug it in like any other midi keyboard. It's a mono instrument so you will only need one input.

    • @threerecurring
      @threerecurring 7 лет назад

      It has a USB connection so you can connect directly or you can use the MIDI connections to link via your interface.

    Can you modulate an LFO with an LFO?

    • @mercury011

      DB Pooper Yes.

    • @ronnieaux5290
      @ronnieaux5290 8 лет назад

      Only downer is I haven't figured out a way to make the LFO speed follow your keys, so it's very difficult to make usable FM sounds. It does static FM really well though with a "HI" mode that goes into audio rate.

    • @Russocass
      @Russocass 9 лет назад

      Some presets use it. I think the last preset in the video ("Just add the kick drums") uses it. I didn't analize how to use it but you can certainly find out how tweaking the presets that have it. You'll identify it seing how the filter selection changes while playing notes.

    • @0neTwo0neTwo
      @0neTwo0neTwo 9 лет назад

      if you click the controllers button you can then select which one you want to mod, i cant find one that says filter pole though

    • @Russocass
      @Russocass 9 лет назад

      You are lucky, by coincidence I just connected the sub 37 before reading your comment. Do the following steps:
      Controllers -> MOD 1 EDIT -> PGM DST -> FILT SLP
      Filt slp is the option that sends modulation to the filter pole

      There are plenty of RUclips videos on wave synthesis. There are courses offered in schools, but the best way to learn a synth is by messing around with it and trying to understand why a certain sound is being generated. Modulation can get really complex really fast, but if you listen to the oscillators at a low frequency of movement, you start to get the idea of what's happening. Start with a basic sine wave at a low hz (maybe 2 or 3 hz - that's 2 or 3 cycles a second), then listen to the difference when you make that wave a sawtooth or square. Then jack the hz (frequency) up and listen to how the pitch is affected. You're basically creating sound waves that have different shapes. The higher the hz, the higher the pitch. It starts getting complex when you add more than one wave, or use an alternate modulation source to modulate those waves, like an LFO (low frequency oscillator). An LFO can be used to modulate a lot of things. Basically the lfo is a wave that's slowly moving up an down. If I use that wave to modulate the frequency of a sine wave, I will get a "siren" sound as the LFO moves to the bottom of its wave it brings down the freq of the sine wave (low tone) and as it moves to the top of its wave it brings up the freq of the sine wave (high tone). Its far too much info for one response ...but that is the very basics of synthesis. The best way yo learn it is to explore ...but don't do so blindly. Pay attention to where the signal is going, and try to understand why a certain sound was created. Analog synths are complex. Even the developer said there are things that they are still discovering... And they built it!!! Have fun!!!
