I wasted a ridiculous amount of time scrolling through TikToks on this Selena Gomez - Justin Bieber - Hailey Bieber "drama" thinking I was wasting my time (which I was), but I also started thinking about how social media "stalking" affects our mental health.

To be honest I don’t think people hold Hailey as a SCAPEGOAT.
I think this is now blowing out of proportion because these allegations have been there for years, and Hailey kept denying it all or swept it all under a rug. So people can’t stop talking about it now that it’s all come to light. Because Hailey lied, ABOUT EVERYTHING. She built a whole life and persona by watching people despite of coming from wealth and having all the opportunities she did. She’s a rich white woman who had resources and connections. And yet, she stooped this low.
Also, another channel talked about obssessive parasocial relationships, how as viewers, we are invested in the lives of people we think we know or feel that we can relate to.
I feel these 2 things resulted in ALL THIS CHAOS.
That’s such a great point - I agree that there are two layers of parasocial relationships here: Hailey’s towards Selena and the rest of the world towards the two if them. What a mess
I think coming from a wealthy home is totally different from being properly raised with good values. The professional stalker failed to display any maturity. Well, I'm not surprised
i disagree, i think she is a scapegoat. Because the statement "she lied about everything" cannot be proven, not by us at least. The accusations are made by fans (1st parasocial relationship), the corroboration of said accusations comes in the shape of the interpretation of Selena's actions and comments (2nd parasocial relationship), Selena herself cannot be fully sure that Haley is full on harassing her or to which extent (3rd parasocial relationship between them), then we use these interpretations and deductions as proof(succesfully feeding on each others controversies, 4th parasocial relationship between the fans).
Now, the disclaimer, hailey is not a clueless victim, her actions and reputation lead others into certain conclusions. If she had a good reputation on middle school, maybe we would see random people who know her trying to support her. Or, if fans and servers had good experiences with her, she would have an overall better reputation.
That being said, is this level of harrassment well deserved?
I think that Hailey had advantages based on the Baldwin name and connections more so than wealth. Her dad is only worth about $1 million, and that is not wealthy for someone who lives in New York or California. I live in California, and the cheapest home in my town is a fixer-upper listed at $700k. Most people I know are worth over a million, but none of us are rich. We are just working class people who happen to live where real estate is worth a lot. Anyways, I do think being worth a million is a lot in most cases, but for someone like Steve Baldwin, it's not much. He's also filed for bankruptcy before. I don't think she grew up with a ton of wealth, but she certainly grew up with privilege.
Another thing that I can't help but wonder is if there's something wrong with her that she doesn't realize how creepy it is that she copies Selena so much. Wouldn't most people stop themselves before they wore the exact same outfit or definitely before they got a matching tattoo? I mean, there's something wrong with you mentally if you don't realize how obsessive that is, right? And why wouldn't at least one of her friends point it out and try to stop her? Is she too far gone to listen to reason? I feel kind of sad for her and hope that she will someday get the help that she sp clearly needs.
More like " Have you made a fake Instagram account to see what your husband's ex girlfriend is doing? " Because she seems obsessed with Selena and she imitates Selena a lot.
I don't think you touched on bigger issue at hand, which isn't the 'stalking' but Hailey's quite scary imitation of everything Selena does, down to actual tattoos. What you said at 10:18 exactly and quite terrifyingly accurately describes what might be going on with Hailey. Selena definitely had the most power over Justin.
Yes hb is dangerous, if this was a man I am sure there would be some type of order against her; via physical, social media. Somebody needs to get the psychopath some real help( husband, daddy, or mother) and sg needs to get lawyers, court date to intervene to stop this bully/ stalker

While Haily Beiber has no personality & is stalking the F out of Selena.

Yep, this was known in circles for a long time. When I was following on some celebrity blind item sites during the whole Meto movement there was anonymous info about how Hailey was trying to manipulate herself into Justin’s life and using the “Christian thing” to secure a quick marriage.
No she's not just a scapegoat, what she did was wrong and it even got to physical stalking. When Selena got into rehab Hailey was seen snooping around her house for whatever reason.

i think it’s so cool (? weird choice of word maybe) how fans today can be such an active part in celebrity drama, years ago you could pretty much only silently follow through gossip news articles but now we can participate enough for the celebrities themselves to react to us reacting to them - they have almost become more /human/ through social media instead of these kind of unreachable Hollywood-deities they used to be!
Yes, not sure cool is the right word, but definitely interesting how the barriers between fans and celebrities collapse. I recently saw a @jordanatheresa video about the "death" of the it girl, which is arguably related to the way in which social media has stripped celebrities of all mystery. The point you make about celebrities reacting to us reacting to them is also super interesting. I don't think the power dynamic has shifted completely, but you can definitely see how public figures are a lot more fearful about making people angry and "getting cancelled" (although cancellations have proven to be mostly ineffective).

It's just insane.... I don't understand what makes people go to such extremes like this. I used to be so scared to even go to the grocery store, because I didn't want to bump into her. She frequented the same places I did. We lived very close to one another for a while. I live across the country now, and she still does what she can.

I think the thing with hailey is she was a Bieber fan when they were teens, and would show up at Selenas premieres and stuff just to be close to Justin. She was a belieber or however you spell it with money and connections. However, I think Hailey's regular obsession as a fan turned into something more concerning the minute she tried to found out what hotels he stayed at (allegedly). @@accordingtoalina Long story short; an art youtuber named Emily had a stalker for years (this caused her to even lose her job and other horrible things) turns out, the stalker was another art youtuber (creepshowart/Shannon) who just so happens to be Emily's ex-boyfriend's wife.
She used to copy Emily a lot, from their art, to even physical appereance. She ofc denied everything, and she denied it by uploading a video filled with details about Emily's life, to defend herself....
While we all think that what Shannon did was creppy af and pretty illegal, even Emily said she believes Shanon is also a victim in a way.
The ex-boyfriend apparently was also obsessed with Emily, and kind of gave the same insecurities to his now wife (Shannon). They both got obsessive, but Shannon is the ine who really took it to the next level.
To me Hailey is only this obsessed because Justin allowed it to happen, and probably even help to make it worse.

None of us know what is happening behind the scenes. This has been selena's behavior for 10 years and it's embarrassing because she's 30 and obsessing over a MARRIED MAN. shading and bashing every girl justin has been with since 2013, then acting like a victim, encouraging her delusional fans to attack other women, then taking a social media break and going to rehab - all of it just to come back saying she doesn't 'care anymore' and 'the chapter is closed' but guess what..she does it over and over again. Now she had another breakdown causing Hailey to get bullied and harassed by her fans for no reason. Instead of taking accountability or telling them to stop she says 'I have the best fans in the world' ENABLING them to continue. They really think Hailey doesn't have anything better to do then to play Selena's online mind games or shade her...this isn't high school! These people have lives and DON'T CARE about Selena! And neither should she! She's 30 and interacting with Hailey hate accounts on tiktok, leaving random comments, making hate videos going viral .... for what?! she needs help!

If your statement is true (which I doubt), then you can't blame Selena for responding in kind. People seem to mistake being good-hearted=weakness and being a martyr.
You missed the mark on this one. Most people I know find her for actual stalking IRL which resulted in fake friendships and a hasty marriage. Also, being morbidly curious about someone and checking their social media profiles is one thing, and semi-bullying is another.
