Dude thank you SO MUCH - this video helped me 100%. I didn't do the repair in 5 minutes like you did, but the repair was a success and I'm totally floored to have my favorite pair of headphones working again!
Great video. Thank for sharing! I've removed the old battery on my cheap headphones (that now only lasts about 30 mins) following your video, but this old battery has 3 wires (black, white and red), while most of the battery options on AliExpress have only 2 wires (black and red). Can I use these batteries instead? And can I follow this color orientation (without the white wire)? Thanks!!
Hi there! Thx for the instructions! But you didn’t have a link for the battery down there! Can you please tell me how you got your Sony battery? Thx a lot!
Well done making your videos. Best procedure is to isolate the loose positive or negative wire physically out of the way or covering one with tape. Close quarters and you brushed the circuit board against them, asking for a short + ruined headphones.
Thank you for the advice! I did not know this was a best practice, but that does make sense. I have repaired at least 200 of these headphones and thankfully I have not had any issues with shorts but better safe than sorry :) Thanks for watching!
Headphones bought in 2019 now house the battery in the LH earphone. Design change by Sony maybe? Otherwise everything else was good, battery was contained in a hard plastic housing, looks very neat and tidy. The battery terminals were the only thing needing soldering. .
It is a common problem for Sony headphones. It is related to software and not the battery. Use a paper clip to press the reset button. This will correct the charging or power on issues!!
@@alexandrea73 Try to charge it with the micro USB cable connected to a USB port from a laptop/computer! I have the same model but somehow does not like it if it is a fast charger or a mobile charger with a bigger current.
Hey! Great video! Thank You so much! Please if You can I need Your help! I have headphones Sony MDR650bt and they just didn’t want to charge one day anymore, and if I would plug them in to charge the red light by the power button would be just very softly flickering as You described saying that this is probably the battery that has to be changed. So I ordered a new battery and replaced it as in the video, but the problem is still the same, headphones are not working and if plugged in the red light is very softly and quickly flickering, can You help me? Do You have any idea what else it can be? Thank You! PS I can add that I am electronic technician but have no experience with those headphones, and also I measured the battery voltage on motherboard where battery cables are going directly to GND and BAT+ which seems correct about 3,69V but on the motherboard of the headphones on both ears there is another GND and BAT+ so on this points I have 2V and it’s dropping down, and if I plug it to charge then on this points I have 1,2V sometimes 0,5V, don’t know if that’s the way it should be, and also it seems like GND from battery directly on motherboard have a short circuit with BAT+ that is bit further in the middle of motherboard. Please if You can help me
How to get new battery, I have the same headphone, I also have the same problem with my headphone. How do I get a new battery or can I replace it with a replacement battery?
I've Sony MDR XB950BT. Is the Handle design will fit with My Sony MDR XB950B1 Instead of Sony MDR XB950BT? Are They the same size? I'm planning to purchase a handle 3D model design from xb950b1 then install to xb950bt.
I don’t know if you’ll see this but my headphones have the red light when charging, they just won’t turn on. I tried holding the power button and noise canceling or pause button at the same time and nothing. Any idea sir? :(
Video is great! Mine would light up red then go out. Could not get my phone to recognize. Took out the battery and put it on a volt meter and I got 4.1v so it was fully charged. Re-soldered the ends and same behavior. Pressed and held the power button until it cleared the bluetooth. Did it again and re-paired successfully.
Hi. Should be easy to find on eBay. Listings have expirations. www.ebay.com/itm/MDR-XB950BT-MDR-XB950B1-MDR-XB650BT-Battery-for-Sony-1-756-920-31-1-756-920-32-/264884268323?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286
Hi. You probably either need to try a different size screwdriver tip OR you may need to clean the screw with some rubbing alcohol prior to trying to remove it. Best of luck!
How about when. I just charged it and the next day its saying. Battery at medium It use to last much longer than that I'm thinking battery isn't holding a good charge anymore sucks cause i love them but i guess i can always use the wire but love bluetooth mostly
Great video. I replaced my battery but my headphones still will not work. The new battery had half charge out of the box. I replaced the battery, turned them on, they worked. Plug in the charger cord and they shut down.... any thoughts?
Whenever this happens to me, it usually is an issue with the charging cable, plug or adapter I'm using. Try to confirm all of those are working on another device. If there's still an issue, try taking the battery out and reinstalling it. If it's still not working, then I'm sorry, I don't know what the next step would be - the circuit board may be damaged :(
Battery Capacity : 3.7V 320mAh 1.18Wh. Compatible with : For SONY MDR-10RBT 1.7 x 0.8 x 0.1 inches but DO NOT replace the battery with a 320mAh LiIon battery use a 450 or 650 a 320 is way way to small mAh and if you're going to the tribble of opening and soldering replace with a better higher mAh LiIon battery. Yes The size of the larger mAh batter maybe smaller but it is fine just gotten on that is close Cost $6 maybe up to $8 not much more that that even that cost you get 3 batteries not one.

Clean, to the point, time saving... Good work.
wow thanks i fixed my headphones just now and it works perfect !
awesome!

Would it be possible to upgrade the battery to a larger/higher capacity, or upgrade the bluetooth to something with lower latency or larger range?

What does it mean to isolate the positive wire?

My headphones light up when I plug them in but immediately the light turns off. Could this fix the problem
Me too. Figure anything out?
@@alexandrea73 Try to charge it with the micro USB cable connected to a USB port from a laptop/computer! I have the same model but somehow does not like it if it is a fast charger or a mobile charger with a bigger current.
It couldn't hurt, that might be the issue.
What if the red light just turn on for a sec when plug the charger, then always shut off? Is it still the battery? The headset only works with jack

Instead of soldering. Can I just connect black and red wires to the corresponding wires on the headphones?
Thank you
What screwdriver we use to open the screws I’m confused can anybody let me know?

Do I have to do this on each earcup or only the one where the usb plugs in?
Battery is on the right side, so oposite side where you plug in micro usb.
Micro usb=left side/Battery on right side on Sony Mdr xb950Bt.
My Sony MDR XB 950 N1 needs a new Battery. Does it work the same way? And does anyone know, where i can get a new obe?
Sr this is literally what i need, I was sad since i just bought them and they already stopped charging just like in the video
Are they the same as MDR-XB950n1?
No, they are have different components and different internal layout.
how can you get out these screws, are very strong i cant get out
Hi. You probably either need to try a different size screwdriver tip OR you may need to clean the screw with some rubbing alcohol prior to trying to remove it. Best of luck!
Can i use any li ion battery that supplies 3.7V ?
You should be able to. As long as it fits in that spot you should be fine.
Thanks for the help! :-)
you are most welcome!

Sir. Can it be replaced by nokia phone battery
I'll just 3d print an addon holder with an 18650 cell in it with 3 to 4 times the battery capacity :)
I just bought them and mic doesn't work
Mines turns on but it won't charge
I just tore my open in the right side...there was no battery on this side. 😂 Guess on the 650 model the battery is on the left side 😭

Yes
The size of the larger mAh batter maybe smaller but it is fine just gotten on that is close
Cost
$6 maybe up to $8 not much more that that even that cost you get 3 batteries not one.

Same question have you a link on amazon or Aliexpress?
How to remove soft ear pads
They just slide in place around the edge. Just start in one corner and pull up on the edge and it will start to come off :)
