  • In this video we explore the ATOMS synth from Baby Audio while trying out some of the sounds on an electronic dance music beat. I was curious to see how this physical modeling vst synth holds up for real world music making.
    The video was originally an hour long life stream, I cut it down in a more accessible 12 min length with all the goodies.

    It's more than good for Electronic Music, thanks for demonstration of how it works with music, Mattias

    It's very usefull for pads and other atmospheric sounds, I really like it's simplicity to create nice sounds!

    This seems like one of those magical gems like with Sugar bytes synths and such. The only three physical modeling synths that have ever sounded good to me prior to this release were Reason' Objekt and Friktion (which i LOVE LOVE) and Ni's prism. Even the higher priced ones that folks live and swear by dont soung good to me at all. But this sounds just as good as Friktion, if not even better! So i cant wait to get it

      Agree, Atoms is one of the better sounding. I’ve been using good old Sculpture in Logic up till now, or Prism. Still usable. But there were some really inspiring pathes in Atoms. 👌🏆 Will have a look at Friktion. Thx for the tip. 😄

      @@MattiasHolmgrenoh yeah, I forgot about Sculpture. That's amazing as well. I just don't have a license for Logic X, but have played with the trial versions many time

    After seeing the NAMM demo of it, i immediately wrote Baby Audio to please include an Audio-IN option, so the exciter source will be actual live audio (like vocals) ;) That will be awesome, if they include it.

      Cool, hope they include the audio input option. Additional madness!

    I think physical modeling is the future. For both real instruments and more syntetic sounds like this. Sample libraries can sound great but I still think that technology is very dated.

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  4 месяца назад +1

      Massive sampled libs will indeed be phased out. AI realtime generation of whatever instrument of choice is probably the future. You won’t need massive disc storage for that either. You just speak out (or think…neurolink) whatever instrument or sound you need and the AI will come up with the exact sound that suits your mix (it knows your favourite sounds from what youve listened too also 🤣). But it will go further than that too…in a way which I can’t comprehend yet. 😂

      @@MattiasHolmgren That was deep but I think you are on to something here. I know about the AI tools. Some make sounds from text, others can make them from samples. Synplant is one of them. There is one for Vital as well. In the end sound designers may get a rough time selling presets. Great for musicians on a non professional budget tho.

      Haha sorry for my elaborate deepdive. I’m deeply concerned about the current shift and AI explosion. Soon anyone can do anything when it comes to creating in the digital realm.
      2024 will crush industries like we’ve never seen before. It’s already happening. All we can do is adapt and prepare by learning the new tech and ways to reach a goal. It’s not gonna reverse and diminish. I was once a top flash actionscript developer (then that went away), then there was iPhone and Objective C. And it was lucrative for a while... Now its impossible to breach that industry without luck, because huge companies can spend millions on just shuffling out whatever to see what sticks. And bury indie devs in the noise. And now they’re firing all the talent. It’s a very sad shift IMHO. Small venues to play at are almost eradicated. I don’t want to be pessimistic but rather open eyed to see what’s happening to be able to prepare instead of falling into the infinity.
      Art in its raw physical form will be treasured forever though.

      @@MattiasHolmgren I am probably your oppisite.I like AI and use it quite a lot in my work and daily life. I work as a developer.
      I think and hope that AI will be a tool, not a being. With that I mean that it should be used to suggest, instruments, chords, melodies and so on where the human is in full control. That is how I like to use AI. The AI is my assistant, not my bad friend that do everything 10 times better than me.
      But in the end will will probably see both kinds of AI, pure AI work and human work with AI help.

      @MattiasHolmgren  4 месяца назад +1

      @jenstornell oh absolutely. I use AI too, that was what I wrote. We need to adapt abd embrace. 😂 no going back.
      I think its both a great helper, but I do see the coming pitfalls and industry overhaul which is the sad part. But hopefully goverments / society can adjust accoedingly to make it work. 😄👌

    I got the problem, that any arranged piece I do in btiwig looses its values and resets to the default preset in Atoms. Same happens, when I duplicate any track. Anyone got the same issue? Its really anoying...maybe a bug of the windows version?
