Great video and a wonderful resolution. I work in software development and you do in fact have to balance, every day, between perfect and good. You always hope to get to perfect or "better" at some point and its great how Baby Audio have reacted. Thats a very modern, agile approach where they really take into account the users feedback as they release their software. kudos to both you and Baby Audio.

Something I wanted to bring up earlier in the original review: I don't agree with the assertion that "spectral dynamics is not needed to make great records because records of the past never used it". One could have made a similar assertion when FET compressors appeared (in contrast to opto-compressors). I understand that the point you were making was that spectral dynamic processing is not absolutely necessary to make a great sound. At the same time, I also think that every tool that helps address an issue can and should be used. Furthermore, a tool that can add some creativity is also recommended. After all, compressors were originally used as more of a utilitarian tool and now can used as a creative tool. (Edit: I just heard you did address it in your way =] )
All that said, it's good that developers do respond to issues. For instance - and yes, I know you have issues with this particular company - when Waves issued last year their take of the Abbey Road signature RS124 compressor, several individuals pointed out an issue that did not reflect the characteristics of the original. A month or so later, they issued an update addressing it and it was much better.
And finally, I am a champion of having as many different opinions on tools as possible, especially when you know the position of the reviewer. You have made it very clear that you prefer hardware over software whenever possible, though you are not opposed to it if it helps to address issues in a clear and consistent way. And it's great to hear your side of things because I treat it like a data set for my own analysis, if you like. And it's great to hear from someone else who perhaps champions ITB more or is content with not having a studio filled with hardware.
So all in all, we are contributing to making better sounds =]

Nowadays there are also many digital plugins and synthesizers that can produce different frequencies than real physical instruments. I think that's also why you can't compare it with the past. You have to be much more selective in your processing.

So...let me understand this more, no disrespect meant. ENGINEERS et all, create a plugin. and DON'T notice that there are "Heavy Distortions" in their very specific plugin. A User who has "some" knowledge points this out. And everyone's now saying what a good company they are for fixing it so quickly. Please, will you all take some time to understand the logic and path here? I realise at 60 I am old, OK...and things have changed....dramatically. But That also means I have seen quite enough. As someone who has worked at the bleeding edge of Visual tech since the 80's, received high industry awards (no...it's ALWAYS a team effort!) lived through the transition to Digital, and knows damn well that "good enough" simply isn't, I have started to become quite saddened by some of the more prevalent attitudes I see (here too). Well done, WSS, for identifying and correcting this. For all you fan beings out there: Check yourselves. Please.

Why is Smooth Operator referencing white noise??? Gullfoss and Soothe reference the pink noise slope with good reason. Does Baby Audio know that the human ear prefers pink noise over white noise? Compare the spectral slope of any commercial mix with that of the pink noise slope. If you pull Smooth Operator down in its default setting, all sources sound thin. The reference is supposed to be the pink noise slope. Please fix this Baby Audio.

IMHO, I would go ahead and remove the original video, since the problems you found in the first video no longer exist. Making a follow up video is great, but there's still a very good chance that someone might only watch the first video and not the follow up, and decide to not purchase the product. "Redline" through the "snakeoil" in the first video might not be understood by some viewers. Kudos for Babyaudio for making the fix, and kudos to you for the follow up video. However, if it were me, I would still remove the first video.

yes, many videos on this plugin are very bad - as in they explain it wrong or even don't use it right. I personally use it when I'm in a weird spot, where my usual tools don't work or in situations where this plugin simply does the job too - but it's easier to dial in. So for instance if I have a very harsh acoustic guitar or distorted vocals or a slapped basstrack where I want to shape the overall sound but especially "dynamically" treat certain events - that's where I use this. But another common use for me is to use it as a "ducker" in sidechainmode. If an element struggles for space/clarity/dominance I will put smooth operator on the track that is masking the track that get's burried and feed the burried tracks signal into it .. it's very easy to see and dial in the frequencies that are dominant in the burried track and "duck em" out plus witht he overall threshold I can test very easily how much "treatment" I want, without having to adjust the single bands (so that they don't change relation to each other). I know you can also do this with multiband compression or dynamic eq- but not as fast, not as intuitively. Also works great on Reverbs. There are too many reverbs without a "ducking" function and with this, I get 2 in one .. I duck it and I shape it. It never was a bad plugin, but it's nice that they fixed the "issue" (that sometimes actually sounds good.. but that's another topic).

I realize this is an old post, but after using this plugin for some time, I've found it has way too much latency to be very useful. Time after time I investigate why a track's timing seems to be off, to discover I used Smooth Operator on it, and it's quite noticeably behind. Perhaps on the mix or master it would be acceptable, but instrument tracks that needed it, become useless. I don't see latency mentioned about these resonance solving plugins, and we have a few more in the mix now, I'm wondering if any of them are less problematic

Before it created like a tremolo by processing the sine wave...strange! Inter-modulation over frequencies.

After watching some of Dan Worrall's videos, it seems fairly clear that this was an aliasing issue. "Hi-Res" being the fix makes me think it's oversampling at 2x, 4x, or even higher sample rates. Did you notice a CPU hit running in the updated mode?

You have my honest respect to test plugins and report your opinion based on traceable facts. That's how independant journalism works since it was invented. I find it inappropriate that baby audio wanted you to take down the first video. We are not in Trump-land anymore. I feel no respect for babyaudio!

Well done - a victory for the small guys out here! Maybe you could take on Audio Imperia - and their seeming inability to fix the Trailer Guitars 2 product. It is a guitar instrument built on many different phrases - and it sounds excellent. However, the big problem in it is that the phrases are not time synced to the DAW - neither do they let you know what the tempo is so that you can build tracks around them!! So I bought a guitar instrument that has great sounding phrases but at random tempo's - that is actually completely useless in ProTools. Furthermore - I have written to then three times because they have written back promising to fix it on the next update - this has happened three times and it has still not been fixed or improved... Perhaps with your new found muscle you can get more answers out of them? I would appreciate it 👍🤞

I've also noticed that the high res algorithm seems to remove the "phase issues" that the classic mode was creating: there is a more round and present low end on the high res.

You make fun of darude, but at the end of the video he's on a boat sailing away with the suitcase between two ladies

Way to follow through, brother. Big ups. And to be fair to Baby Audio, who rightfully have a lot of fans, I think they were always going to fix this problem regardless of our community, but it surely didn't hurt. I think we should all buy Smooth Operator if only to show how much we appreciate post-release support and being listened to. It's a good little plugin that sounds different.
