"It was not if he was going to kill, it was when." This statement that the prosecutor made, *THIS* is what people who don't really understand relational domestic violence don't realise. Abusive men, once they get physically abusive, it's just a matter of time until they kill their girlfriend/wife. The idea that the woman leaving is all she has to do to remove herself from the abuse and the abuser is so, so ignorant. Most women who leave end up dead even some who plan their exit quietly. Without a strong and active support network, they don't stand a chance. If you don't understand domestic violence and the impact it has on the victim, keep your opinions to yourself. Victim blaming shows how ignorant people are and continue to be about DV.
Exactly. This tragic ending is almost inevitable in abusive relationships. Which is why we desperately need to educate girls, maybe in high school health class, about all the warning signs and how critical it is to have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy so you can end the relationship while you still can, before things escalate. I don't care how much you think you love a guy, if he's exhibiting DV warning signs, it's literally a matter of your life or death. And we need to educate boys on domestic violence as well. It's like the topic of sexual consent--both girls and boys need to understand this issue. But girls--please!!!--ZERO TOLERANCE policy!
That’s because the narcissist loses control prior to the discard phase. They want to maintain control and when the woman leaves, they’ve lost that. So, they control by love bombing…the groceries and flowers and when she rejected that, she was immediately in danger. Do I think she could have handled it differently? Yes. But each of us in this situation, does what they feel they need to do to keep the narcissist happy until they are gone. She only did one thing wrong, misjudged how far he would go to maintain the control. They also keep finding ways to involve themselves in the woman’s life, ie fixing their car, using the child as bait and being nice and making believe they will change cause they love the child, paying rent, etc. They aren’t doing it to be nice, it’s to retain control. This is just a story of a narcissist scorned who can’t bear it, can’t allow disrespect or to not look like the good guy. SHE had to look like the bad guy, the cheater, that’s the reason for the constant need to record. He even said it , people needed to see she was the bad guy he’s always said she was. But in the end, catching her in the act wasn’t enough to assuage the anger. Only death would be enough but then that’s not enough, even after death in the trial she has to be the bad guy. He’s just a classic narcissist and ladies, this will always be the ending of a relationship with men like this and men, this will always be the ending with women like this!
@@kazrutch463 Hi there. I had an absolutely horrible childhood, and I’d like to think I’ve turned out to be a nice, empathetic person who would never hurt anyone on purpose (physical or otherwise). Not everyone who was abused, etc. turns out to be an abuser. People need to take responsibility for their feelings and actions. More people need to seek out help but never do, hence terrible acts like this crime becomes reality. It’s sad in so many ways, for everyone.
Absolutely. This is so sad if you hide under adhd kind of disease. My son has autism and he so sweet and empathetic. These people will ruin some innocent mentally challenged people.
@@subst4nce973 I disagree. Victim blaming is never a good strategy. I agree that she had no other choice as insanity was off the table. I actually think they were also manipulated by Ali to do what he thought was the best defense. Otherwise, they will have never let him take the stand. They know how impulsive he is and disrespecful to judges, attorneys, etc. He had his full narcisim, control and lies in full display up there, apart from the fact that the man just cant control his emotions, trying to control the narrative all the time, and the jurors saw right through. I'm shocked he didn't yell at his own defense lawyers, probabably because they did what he told them to.
Trying to get this man to answer a question is obviously no easy task. Watch his testimony, so many times he was told to answer the questions, not ask questions. He rarely could answer a simple yes or no. Always trying to control the narrative. I was mystified how he can argue anything after the fact he carried a loaded gun into the apartment and started firing immediately! He is a psychopath

He walked in his apt and his wife was sitting in top of a dude he had intense issues with - he was endlessly petrified that dude would go for sex with Ana and he knew Ana would ( and did) to torture him.
Yep. Because according to his twisted reasoning, he provoked Ana just as much if not more. He taunted her with his sex with that "chick" he met in the elevator. She could have tried to spy on him or planned to shoot him. No, she just wanted to move on.
PLUS he's proven beyond ANY possible doubt he's a pathological liar. Whatever defense he thinks he has is just all in his head. No one else (except for his defense lawyers) believe his excuses and justifications.
We only know what he told us. It was apparent that he was a difficult child and adult. I don't believe he was abused. He blamed everything on everyone else and he lied so I can't believe anything he said. He broke her and then killed her!
Even if he didn't think about it until he walked down the hall, it is still considered premeditation bc he had time to stop and prevent the tragedy. Even just firing the second bullet or is premeditation bc he could have stopped. Sometimes jurors like to define it to mean actually planning it, but it just requires a second of forethought and action.
The defense atty' s argument is nuts. She didn't stop loving him in a months time. Ali has a history of beating her, stalking her, recording her, controlling her. Meanwhile, he's having sex with a stripper. This man is a danger to society and should never be released from prison.
I guarantee you he was rough with the sex worker or treated her disrespectfully and that's why she wanted nothing to do with him afterwards, she caught a glipse of what he was. then finding out he had been dishonest about the status of his relationship and now she was in the middle of it...I feel bad for her too

Not cocaine, but there are many mind altering drugs in this world. You can do many things you don’t even remember or be paralyzed when drugged with certain substances. You can become psychotic, delusional, suicidal. Drugs absolutely do affect your behavior and decision making
This man is very misogynistic. He thinks it's okay to beat up women and cheat on his wife, while it's not okay Ana to see other men? This is beyond cruel and hypocritical. I am very disgusted by his actions towards his wife.
What makes me laugh is that he thought he was famous or a tick took star 😂 and most of us didn't even know who he was??even the stripper he slept with didn't care he was on tick tock...he's just a loser
Unfortunately, this is how many middle eastern men are raised. It’s cultural and religious ignorance. What’s really disturbing is that he was raised here but he still carried the warped worldview of his ancestors. Many of us who immigrated to the west have been able to break the cycle and teach our children to be better human beings. But this family was stuck in the medieval times! I hope this monster never walks amongst free society again. He would kill again and again.
Ana had been sleeping with a male he had tried t o make amends with for some time. He never cheated - he did look up escorts but LE never found any hiring (payment) for such services. One night while his wife was out drugging , dancing and drinking a female came on to him in elevator - she was crying - he did offer her some coke an d wine. His penis failed to work and she left. He never contacted her again. She continued to drink drug and dance the evenings away........................................

It’s just a shame that his incarceration cannot bring back Anna or Ray who had their whole lives ahead of them.
The prosecutor did a masterful job of allowing him to show his true nature. His outburst when asked about viewing teen porn showed that he is so quick to rage......even when he has every incentive to control himself. Imagine what he was like when no one was watching!!!~
Which backfired on her and served the Defense because it shows he doesn't know how to regulate himself, has a temper, is easy to snap and is unhinged - all of which makes it plausible that he could've committed the crimes in the "heat of the moment".

Had he himself not planted the listening device, he wouldn't have known that they were together. Had he himself not been coked out of his head, his rage wouldn't have been out of control. And nobody would have died. He is guilty at his own hand!
And I definitely do not believe this was the first time he planted a listening device. I’m sure he had been doing it for years. Doing it this day and finding a man there wasn’t a coincidence
Imagine if instead of planting a listening device, he chose to use that time to work on himself. He could have been going to AA/NA meetings. He could have been exercising and getting healthy. He could have been making his goofy little tiktok videos. He could have, and should have been going to therapy for his supposedly awful childhood and mental health issues... He chose to be a pathetic stalker instead, and here we are.🤷

He planted a listening device. He drove 15 mins to her apt. He parked on the street. Used a key card he should not have had since he moved out. It took 3mins to take elevator to go to the apt. He could have changed his mind at any time. But all he could think about was Ana was showing no respect for him. He shot Ray first so Ana could see what was coming to her.imo. Drugs and alcohol are no excuse to commit a crime. We have seen his temper flare through out this trial. It's definitely premeditated 1st degree. He is a danger to society. Should not see the light a day! To me a crime of passion is when you perhaps come in from work and find your spouse in bed with someone else and lose it. That did not happen in this case.
Exactly! He put himself in the situation to kill them. He knew what was happening and took a firearm with him. So many chances to turn around but he still went. The fact he told his friend not to tell her he knew and was going there says he wanted to catch them by surprise. Probably to use it as an excuse for crime of passion. He is disgusting
Or he shot Ray first because he is a coward and was afraid that Ray would overpower him if he didn’t immobilise him. He wasn’t afraid of 115lb woman, but he was afraid of a big guy who visited the gym and was in great condition.

He will recreate the murders in his own mind, trying to convince himself that he is a big man. Fortunately, the serious offenders in the prison system will show him, regularly, what a nasty little coward he really is.
Thank you, that’s what came to my mind too. Yin and Yang of the same coin. Only thing about the trauma of watching her crazy testimony for 21 days is that it made Ali’s 3 days not so bad in comparison ( that’s saying a lot, I know.)
The way he talks about how Ana and him first met, that she dragged him to the dance floor and he stole her from the man she was seeing. He really is trying to convince himself that he is Scarface, as that's how it happened in the movie. He talks like Scarface in hi pretrial hearing. He keeps glimpsing at the judge before making the devil sign to the camera. He makes me sick how he thinks saying sorry and buying flowers makes it okay to repeatedly assault Ana. How dare she phone the police a month after one of his attacks! I've been abused and that's what my ex used to do. They love to see us cry. Please don't stay in an abusive relationship no matter how hard it is to leave.
What the hell is "the devil sign"? Sorry to say it but you sound delusional. There's no need to imagine he's a devil worshiper or something--he's an evil sociopath who murdered two people, that's plenty bad enough without satan bullshit.
Imma have to disagree with the Prosecution on one issue. If a father finds some Predator assaulting his child, and rightfully unalived that Monster. He should never be charged with any crime. That act would certainly be covered by Defense of Self of Family Members. And hopefully the jury wouldn't vote to convict any Parent who defended their child from a Evil Pedophile.
Dont they know by now that victims of domestic violence that are truly afraid of their abusers that they would say what the abusers want to hear to make them not get angry and want to beat their victims over and over again especially if he would threaten her life and everyone else in her life also. He already showed how he gets amped up when he doesnt hear what he wants or dislikes peoples opinions about his behavior or about how he treated his wife. I mean he even went off on his neighbor for no reason and made him feel uneasy to the point that neighbor felt he needed to get away from his presence. This guy is a serious psycho and needs mental help and belongs in prison for life. PERIOD!!
You can't have a crime of passion when you knowingly bring a gun with you. He lost his control over her very life and took ot from her and her loved ones. He has such an attitude.
I lived with abusive parents it was a living hell, they fought constantly and I believe he would have eventually killed his daughter if he would had the chance. If he really cared for his daughter he would have pleaded guilty and just gone away. I pray that Ana’s daughter NEVER watches this circus he brought to the forefront for his “Alibi”… he is a terrorist… he terrorized his family. He is a misfit, a coward and a malignant narcissist. Ugh this was so horrible to watch this train wreck. It’s like watching a murder in slow motion. RIP Ana and Ray ❤
It was hard to watch but hopefully this trial being published will warn other women about what ultimately happens when they don’t leave controlling relationships in a very safe manner. Never, ever tell your abuser that you are leaving them. Make a plan, keep it very secret and move as far away from the abuser as possible. Put thousands of miles between you, and never, ever go back to him. A coward who beats you, does not love you. It’s impossible.
It is far more complex than that. As I have stated I watched all the testimony - much nonsense ou t there. She cheated - not him. She dumped their child on him all the time. He never once stopped her fro,m drugging dancing drinking. She did what s he wanted with his money.
@DASHDOT51 he didn't cheat?? he litry told Ana he had sex with someone on her period & she gave him oral the next day. And he used a vibrator on a 19 y/o How is this not cheating??
@@DASHDOT51 If you watched all the testimony, you would know that statement is false. He absolutely cheated on her. One of the women he cheated with testified in the trial for over an hour. You can sympathize with him if you want, but it hurts your case to just make up blatantly false stuff like that. Ali was unfaithful. He had sexual relations with another woman while still married to Ana. They hooked up in his apartment. It's not even up for debate. He himself fully admits this, so I'm not sure why you don't.

Yep, she did the best she could with a horrible set of facts. He’s 1000% guilty & it must have been quite difficult to come up with a defense closing argument.
It's the old precedence of blaming the victim. Old as the hills. But hopefully jurors today will see through it and make him accountable for his actions.

Even the judge knows that the defence is wasting his time.Ali already fried his ass by defending himself 🤷🏻♂️
IF HE ACCEPTED IT HE WOULDN'T HAVE KILLED HER !!!!
Guilty 1st degree double murder....this guy is dangerous!! No parole, ever..
I'm guessing this deliberation is going to be pretty quick.
Guilty. First degree
As a victim of domestic abuse from a man with an addiction to drugs, mental illness, and an abusive childhood.. listening to the defense attorney in closing arguments literally wrecked me.
None of those things are an excuse for killing your wife. He knew he was sick. He could have gotten help! Rehab! Therapy! Long term mental health impatient with addiction therapy.. This lawyer makes me sick..
Guilty of 1st Degree murder! You can’t just expect a reasonable person to murder someone if they see their spouse cheating, That is 100% not something a reasonable person would do!
I know it’s their job, but hearing a woman defense attorney defend a male abuser and bash a woman victim just makes me sick on a different level. 🤮
Great pointe!
Then STOP WATCHING trial cases. No one forced you to watch. That's how it works. For the record, she was just as mentally abusive as Ali was.
Was she supposed to defend a cheater and someone who committed adultery then ma’am?

Oh cool story!!! Great commentary and wonderful insight!!
Lmao shut the f*ck up. 😂😂😂

Huh?? 😂
He needs to man up and take 100% responsibility for what he did not half @$$. If he was truly in love with her he wouldn't have chose to put her family thru this. Instead he is blaming her when she isn't here to defend herself. He a 🤡
he wasn't in love with her and she wasn't with him either. she was only with him after Shawn Torres ditched him and she needed another guy to take her to the US.
Wow defense: victim blaming much??? Not a good move
Folks get victim blaming and facts as stated by homicide folks mixed up.
They need to make an example on this guy! Jinn kid is not Immortal! He killed 2 people! And pay for your bad decisions!
This is for Vinnie Politan... The female version of Jodi Arias!!
Great comment!
Very true
My immediate thought!
True! But this guy is so scary 😨
@@Juke582 so was Jodie Arias! 😂
This prosecutor is a damn rockstar! 🎉🎉 Wow this prosecutor is fantastic thorough, she clearly and pointedly calls out this monster and his attorneys. God bless her!
Guilty of 1st degree
So proud of this prosecutor!! The voice of Ana and Ray!
How can she stand there and say he is not a murderer?! He literally murdered two people in cold blood! Although, upon hearing the rest of her closing arguments, I think she did very well with almost nothing to work with.
But the Defense want to go to Sharia law., where humiliation is cause to kill someone..
Ali committed a honor killing, that is murder.
He never once stated he did not kill them. He called 911 within 90 seconds - wanting to get paramedics rolling. He provided exact info. His childs mother is dead - he knows he has to turn himself in BUT he had to get child somewhere safe first. That is what he attempted to do. He notified his mom dad and a friend withi n minu tes.
I agree I thought her defense was actually well done considering how much of a scumbag coward he was revealed to be at trial, and the provocation key point was effectively presented
@@DASHDOT51You didn't pay attention. It took him 12 minutes to call 911.
What an excellent prosecutor. Masterful concluding arguments. I think too many people are unclear about what "reasonable doubt"--within the context of a trial--is. She explained the State's counterarguments to the Defense's so thoroughly and clearly that the jury could take her well-made points into their deliberations.
Prosecutor laid out the bare common sense facts. Let them speak for themselves
Wow! I can’t believe that defense attorney really had the balls to say he’s not a murderer. That’s crazy! If I were on that jury I wouldn’t even be able to take the defense attorney’s seriously. I think he really thinks he has a good chance at getting away with murder because he’s so delusional and has been surrounded by yes men feeding his delusions.
Are you even paying attention to the case ? It’s not a question of “if he murdered them” it’s a technicality of “is it manslaughter or 1st degree “. Obviously he killed them….
@@KyuubiNemesis94 Yes I paid attention. You could lose your attitude. I pointed out that it is insane to make the statement he’s not a murderer because either way he murdered two people. Whether the defense sees it as manslaughter or first degree, he still purposely took two peoples lives. Which is murder. I’m sure it also stuck out to the jury that his defense said that.

I can't understand why that apartment didn't have security locks from the inside.
Anna knew he had been in there the previous day too.
I can't believe she went back and put herself in such a vulnerable position.
So many precautions not addressed.
Heartbreaking
She didn’t have any money and probably wanted a comfortable spot to do her cocaine in, but the other guy should have paid for a hotel
Yes, her big mistake was bringing Ray into her apartment. Even tho, if they had divorced, this scumbag would not have left her alone.
@@peppercat8718true. I just wish she had a decent friend around to give her good advice. Protection. It's hard to find a real friend who looks out for you. Especially in California.
@@peppercat8718
No. That was not her “big mistake.” Her big mistake was not having a restraining order, security cameras outside and inside, a police alarm, heavy duty locks and bolts on the door or better still, having made a secret plan to leave him and moving as far away from him as she could go - Florida or NYC.
Anna was free to and had the right to bring whoever she wanted into her own home. This cowardly b’stard had no right to beat, torture and eventually to murder her.
@@enigma_-_79 a restraining order wouldn't have stopped him.
Did she just say “He is not a murderer”? 🥴
I was like 😮😂

Why didn't Court TV play more of this trial? I don't understand. I want to see the whole thing. Just like with other trials, I like to watch from beginning to end. And we only have bits and pieces. It's so frustrating!! How can I get the footage of the trial? Can I make a request somewhere to be sent the footage of the trial? If anyone knows, please let me know how I can find it. Thank you!!
