    Exciting match! Quand Duong seemed to have such accute focus as he hit every stroke and executed his shots with real skill. And, even better I want to say how impressed I am with Quand for his sportsmanship. At the end of the match, I noted that he took his hat off as he gave Ben five/paddle tapped... And during the post-match interview he was completely humble; giving credit to the wind, the circumstances, and Ben not playing his usual best. You can see that Quand's upbringing has taught him respect for those masters who have gone before. He gave digity to Ben after dethroning the king of PB. I admire this respectful attitude and humility. Very impressed! And I think Quand is going to go far! Intrigued to watch his future career blossom.

    • @ooter37
      @ooter37 Год назад +1

      I agree the ppa needs to improve its cameras (and many other things), but I don’t think it’s fair to compare it to The Orchard for a few reasons.
      1) The cameras aren’t nearly as good as you think. I’ve been to many games and watched many challenge replays. It’s always one or two angles that usually doesn’t give a clear shot.
      2) The Orchard is one court (when used for league). Putting cameras on one court is easier than lots of courts.
      3) It’s indoor, so it’s easy to mount cameras on the ceiling.
      4) It doesn’t change back and forth from pickleball to tennis, so the cameras can be permanent.
      Also, FYI, TNP isn’t an amateur league. Everyone in it plays professionally.

    Surprised Ben didn't do more research and checkout his action against the new rules before starting the tournament. The female announcer is so one-sided to Johns. Whatever matchup I see, she emphasizes Ben's play while downplaying the play of his opponents. If Johns puts away a pop-up she proclaims what a wonderful and beautiful shot that Ben and only Ben could have made. If he misses, she exclaims what a wonderful and beautiful shot it would have been if it had gone in. If the opponent makes a beautiful shot - it's how "Ben Johns almost got to that one and if he did it would have been beautiful and wonderful" Just ask him to marry you already! And it only gets worse if ALW is playing. It's like a drool fest. Maybe make your reverence a little less obvious?

    Both players were hitting legal serves in the beginning and cost Ben Johns the first game. Ben Johns reverted back to his old serve which won him the second game. Once Ben Johns got called for illegal serve Quang tightened up his service motion. Love the change though as it gets rid of the random HIGH and LOW bounces to the left and right. Now you just play the random LOW bounces to the left and right. Just make it easier to officiate and do the drop serve as you get nearly the same type of ball on serves as the newly modified volley serves.

    Doung's serve @24:56 isn't any different than the issue they called BJ for just prior. His arm is raising up before the drop and above the hip just like BJ. Why was he not called for the exact same issue? Then BJ does the same thing he already got called for @25:24 and no call. This rule is either too subjective or to difficult to call consistently.

By the way, I believe Duong will have an advantage in matches playing in difficult conditions. Watching this funny "match" and you may see why ruclips.net/video/E2yUgjD7w5s/видео.html . It's also called a "reverse forehand" when the forehand finishes on the same side instead of across. Connor Garnett does it a decent bit as well. It's especially useful when the ball is further away from you because you can swing up and away from your body for extra reach and it usually helps create a more extreme upwards stroke angle for more topspin. When doing it while reaching further away from you, you can even add some side spin to it, there's a few matches where Connor Garnett does a reverse forehand drive with side spin from the baseline far on the right side of the court and curves it ATP back into the court.

    This was an interesting match and a good game on both sides. When you take into account the factors at play here then you can understand why Ben John’s didn’t play his best. It’s early in the morning, it’s windy, new pickle ball and on top of that he’s trying out a new paddle. Idk about y’all but when trying a new paddle it takes a while to adjust to it and get comfortable. A lot of people say the new talent is coming in and these vets are in trouble, but these people just don’t understand the game enough. But regardless the future of pickleball looks very bright and we have these vets to thank for that.

    • @ripeapple350
      @ripeapple350 Год назад +2

      Duong found out his usual paddle was "banned" minutes before the match in regards to adapting to a new paddle. The vets will always be a presence, but just like when Riley Newman, Matt Wright, etc. became less dominant because of Ben, he will become less dominant because of the new talent. Those who understand the game know that it is "unsolved" (that is the word Ben Johns' himself used) and new players are trying strategies that might be effective against Johns' super defensive and dink-heavy approach to singles.

    Watch Quang's serve immediately after Ben Jonhs is called for an illegal server. Quang's hand at 24:56 is clearly moving upwards until the release at 24:57, and his release well above his hip. New serve rules seem to be a joke, PPA should just go to drop serve only as it would be much easier to have a consistent ruling on serves.

    This is a reality check for Ben and the ppa and I think they will soon realize he's not nearly the most talented player, just the first talented player. They coddle him and it's a bad look that the other players will start to resent.

He is currently the best in the world and its not even close. You cant coddle a 108-match winning streak in singles, over 80 PPA Titles and more Triple Crowns than any other male in professional pickleball history.

      I want to make it clear. This is the INCEPTION of Pickleball. Ben is the Wilt and Russell and West of this league. As more attention and money is added more higher level tennis pros will join the mix and take it to the MJ Shaq level. But for now just appreciate greatness. No one EVER is undefeated in an individual sport that has thousands of players and hundreds of matches per year.

      @@gg80108 Lol well your comment already didnt age well. PB is the fastest growing sport in Anerica and soon it will spread worldwide. Soon not only lower tier tennis players will be joining but kids will actually start at super early ages with a pb ONLY upbringing. They will have more well rounded games directly suited for pb. Its coming whether you want it or not. My guess is your a disgruntled tennis player who is jealous of the pb attention. But regardless your entitled to your opinion.

    CRYBABY Ben Johns is actually the Rhonda Rousey of Pickleball - He's just had a longer run because of the lack of talent in pickleball but NOW, young guns like Quang "IRON" Dong are going to be the norm by next year and Ben Johns will fade away and be a footnote to the beginning of pro pickleball. This is going to happen to McGuffin and others too. The time has come!! out with the old and in with the new generation!

      LOL..never said Ben was a loser but he's definitely a crybaby when he loses (I don't really care if he has a zillion contracts and a billion dollars). BUT Ben is really lucky he got involved in the sport when he did - who did he have to play? McGuffin? Yates? Old Weinbach? all the players that were doing it part-time and were guys that could never be pro in tennis? Like I said, 17 year old IRON Dong Quang and others that are coming are the new while Ben Johns and all those guys he used to beat up are the old era @@gg80108
