I really like the way you pooled all the great players' ideas. They're all correct but different at the same time because they're emphasizing different aspect of the dinking technique/strategy. This is a great video about really "understanding" the idea behind the dinking. Great job! Yes, for you to progress into more advanced game, the dinking is the base where the game should start from. Power players need to understand that you have to base the power game on solid dinks first to be effective.

Great summary of all the best RUclips dinking content. I actually had seen all of them before. What does that say about all the pickleball channels I subscribe to 😅?
The reason for a loose grip while dinking, is to lessen the recoil of the ball from the paddle when it is is hit. The grip of the hand and wrist serves as a spring. When the paddle handle is held tightly, the wrist also gets rigid. The effect is akin into the hand and wrist acting like a strong spring (hence a big recoil) and therefore, a pop up results. If the hand grip and wrist as loose on the other hand, the paddle is connected to limper spring with a weaker recoil. This results in having more control to lift the ball just over the net and placement with greater precision.
This compiles pretty much all the best dink tips I've seen myself in my RUclips travels, except for missing one video by Nicole Havlicek where she shows a technique for hitting the same spot repeatedly, either slightly in front of the NVL or slightly behind the NVL to get the opponent rocking backwards and forwards.

Request - can you work on volume modulation. Some of your example/lesson clips are VERY muted so we have to turn the volume way up, and when the video swItches back to you narrating it's suddenly LOUD, and we have to run over and turn the volume back down. Thank You

2:11 #2 Contact ball in front of you instead of beside or behind
2:44 #3 Imagine a ceiling extending above the net and don't let followthrough go above that ceiling
4:02 #4 Try practicing with pickleball under armpit to limit backswing and followthrough
4:39 #5 Try softening your grip
5:11 #6 Try practicing with off hand finger on paddle to help limit paddle motion
6:25 #7 Keep your chest level during dink (don't lift your chest up when dinking)
7:05 #8 Try to draw a line with your paddle where you want the ball to go
7:44 #9 Try to crab walk/shuffle step when dinking to help stay balanced
8:42 #10 For small steps, plant one foot and side step to dink
9:18 #11 Try to create a pause before every time you hit the ball when dinking
10:17 #12 Try slice/underspin on dinks
11:19 #13 Try to dink the ball out of the air whenever possible
11:59 #14 Try topspin dinks (while maintaining good form)
13:19 #15 When returning aggressive cross court dinks, try resetting the dinks to middle of the court to get back on balance
14:04 #16 Try to hit more aggressive dinks when you can (i.e. dinks that are deeper with a flatter trajectory to get your opponent off balance)
14:57 #17 Only dink crosscourt if the ball is at or inside your outside foot. If the ball is outside of your outside foot just reset to the middle or in front of yourself in order to not attempt a difficult cross court shot.
17:22 #18 When resetting the ball, try to hit the ball shorter into the kitchen to force your opponent to hit up on the ball
18:22 #19 Mix up the target of your dinks, changing crosscourt/down the line and forehand/backhand.
19:39 #20 Attack your opponent’s weaknesses (e.g. if they have a weak backhand, target their backhand).

Wow just from Tip 1. Just illustrates perfectly. I have a very non-traditional thinking mindset. Analogies can be great!
Also I could be wrong in saying this but a huge backswing almost will certainly ensure you’re not contacting the ball in front. By the time the backswing goes back and forward it’ll take too much time and the ball will be past the ideal contact point.
The softening of the grip allows the muscles to hit something soft. In tennis, boxing, other sports, the way to amplify power is to go from loose to tense up right prior to contact. On a dink this is obviously really bad. A death grip naturally causes tension in the forearm making it easier to pop a ball up
Great compilation! Ive always thought that a looser grip for soft shots was the equivalent of a tennis racket/string combo giving more dwell time(same reason soft paddles are better for control in general). By relaxing you grip, you get an extra millisecond of laxity in your hand to fine tune how youre hitting the ball so get more control. Similarly a firmer grip is like stiffer paddle/racket which gives more power return? Not sure though
Maybe some innovative paddle manufacuturer can come up with a piezoelectro paddle that can change stiffness of the paddle based on grip pressure to further enhance the effect.

4:50 Softening ur wrist reduces the staibility of your paddle i.e. reduces sweet spot in exchange for dwell time of the ball on ur paddle. The sensation comes from the micromovement of ur paddle when the ball comes in contact with it. This helps with controlling ur own power and accuracy for precision shots (and even deception i.e. hesitation dink). This is in contrast to non-precision shots like counters where sweet spot is more valuable because it's difficult to ensure the ball hits the middle of the paddle, so we stiffen up ur wrist to increase the stability of the paddle increasing ur sweet spot and decreasing dwell time
#5 Softer Grip = less energy return into the ball when you contact it. Plus more control and feel than a tight death grip. Plus the tight grip = more energy transfer into the ball.
All good tips. I don't know why but the way Callie holds her non paddle arm during dinks drives me nuts.

This is such a legit compilation. I love the soft game and just want to progress in my pb journey. I play with people that mainly just want to grip it & rip it and it's becoming so tired. I love the strategy of the dink game.

I find softing my grip allows the paddle to shift in my hand. Making the ball die of go off in the direction the paddle moved. Thoughts or recommendations on this. I imagine theres a sweet spot.
Topspin dink hard to have much effect, the dipping action is related to RPM and surface friction of the ball. A soft, short shot with a new ball isnt really going to dip much
Clinic coach here. Perfectly explained with excellent examples! I would add merely that new players need also to learn to volley in order to respond to speed ups that they are sure to encounter when they hit attackable dinks. The reason I alternate dink and volley drills in the same session once the rudimentary basics of each is achieved.
