Finally a championship match that was interesting and had guys hitting the ball with pace instead of a dink battle.
I never thought I'd say this but I'd take Qs two handed bh dink over Ben's pretty bh dinks. Ben looks like on the defensive immediately once they start exchanging bh dinks, and honestly Q can hit that bh dink all day.
Reminds me of how Roger has a pretty but ultimately inferior bh to Rafa/Djokovic/Alcaraz.
When you are at your lowest, you are open to the greatest change. Duong came off of a double pickle by Fed and managed to beat out the Big Johns for the gold! Great work, I hope to meet Quang on the courts someday.
Q and Alshon would have won in Vegas if they teamed up. Stone was def no Alshon.
Johns brothers need to evolve with the game. Their playstyle is old and defensive, new style of play is lot of power and offense, specially with all these paddles with extra pop. Colin needs to up his game.

I still prefer their game, they balance power and finesse. They just did not play well this match. But good for D&A -- they played great!
@@kushbd Johns Brothers balance offense and defense, but if teams start looking like CA/QD, which is all offense all the time, it will be tough for Ben to compete teamed up with Colin. You could see that Colin was trying to generate offense, he's just not strong at it (relative to top pros). Colin is a defensive savant, but the game may be changing to require much more offense from both the left and right sides, see also Staksrud/Tardio.

Two athletic men give them fits. See what Fed & Tardio did to them. Collin got catch flat footed twice in game 3. Caught totally off guard on shots by Ben he wouldn’t ordinarily see other teams be able to return.

This turning out to be the year of the 18 year olds. Q, Big H, and Gabe now all have wins against the Johns. A new age of pickleball is upon us.
Side-out scoring, outdoors, pick your partners, AND the Johns brothers were playing with Gen 3 paddles where Christian and Quang were using Gen 1. Wonder what Collin will say now?

Love their play, talent is crazy. But somebody please pay for some video production. Poor lighting I can forgive its outdoors but one camera angle and half the time you can't see the defender return the serve? Come on PPA
The main difference that I saw was Duong’s aggressive dinks from the left side. His topspin forehands to Collin and 2 handed backhands/slices to Ben really seem to put them on defense. One of the few players where Ben had his hands full backhand to backhand at the kitchen.

This fast paced and energetic pickleball style will bring more interests to the sport and increasing financial rewards for its top athletes. More tennis players (or other paddle/racket sports athletes) will jump into this sport and make the competition tougher, not your grandpa/grandma retirement home game anymore!!

I feel like Quang Alshon will have a hard time replicating this game. They played ridiculously well. Did not make many errors and hands were ridiculous. Both players historically make a ton of unforced errors so I think this was a very good day for them.

Changing of the guard
Duong gets away with a lot of balls he speeds up in transition that are going out. Teams will adjust, but that is a ball most people at this level don't hit so it's not typical to let those go. He also has some of the best aggressive dinking out there, I would have rather dinked with Alshon, they needed to adjust. Great match all around.
Maybe a few were going out but many were landing in due to the heavy top spin he put on the ball.

He’s only 18 or 19. So he’s got time. I will say I don’t think many would agree with his dad that Quang’s style is “modern pickleball”. Pickleball still requires touch and defense to a greater extent than what Quang exhibits. To win consistently I feel as if he needs to incorporate a bit more defense

Yeah, I was a little confused too because Section 12 of the rule book clearly states the winners shall be awarded a 5 ft tall trophy in the shape of a pickle.

Collin really needs to change the way he plays. Even though he is expected to play the supportive role, it is still painful to see him pass so many attacking opportunities. I really respect the Johns brothers for their discipline and root for them every time, but I'm so disappointed to see them not adapting to the fast changing landscape of pickleball. You can't keep doing the same thing and expect others to try to fit into your playing style. How many more losses need to happen for them to evolve their "system" which is obviously not working.

PLEASE stop cutting out the key moments when Dave Fleming is commentating just because one team calls a timeout. You are ruining the continuity of the match for me. I've mentioned this before and others have supported it.

100% agree. They're cutting the announcers off mid-sentence, and we're even losing some of the actual game action. This is RUclips, viewers can easily just skip ahead if there are parts they don't want to watch.
