A Hill I’m normally that big strong blue belt ..I think it’s awesomely humbling getting thrown around choked and squeezed by my little coach, plus normally a big spazzy blue belt still struggling to find his 50% button is hard work so watching a few little rolls where he (me) gets thrown about is white satisfying😂 hope that kinda helped
I got the "blue belt blues". Actually Im in a state of deep depression and haven't been on the mat for a while. This video some how makes me wanna roll, like right now. Your last line "..you wanna improve your jiu-jitsu, you gotta come to class" , Even tho' that's no rocket science, I really needed to hear it said out loud. Thanks for a neat vid n a verbal kick in the ass! (and sorry for rambling and TMI)
I've been a white belt for 3 years since we don't have a black belt instructor, our head coach doesn't have a black belt instructor either but we study it like a science and all of us are white belts but we take on Blue and purple, sometimes even brown belts on rare occasions. We're on the other end of the spectrum. White belt syndrome lol Hope you get some training in 😊
I hope you're feeling better! Martial arts, and physical activity are both incredibly difficult and helpful under the influence of depression. Difficult to get the motivation, helpful once you do. Just keep showing up, and you will get better every time.
what you have is actually pretty common, lots of guys ive seen get their blue belts have a drop in attendance. its almost like being a whitebelt all over again for some guys and it feels like starting a new mountain all over again. some guys get disheartened and stop bjj altogether. hopefully you'll find the motivation to come in and start again soon. its sad to see people just give up. heads up brotha!
If you think his professor is smashing on him your crazy in my opinion. Seemed like a nice roll session and a lot to be taken from as the blue belt. Why did I get caught in the armbar? I hid my arm but left the underhook and straight armbar. Thank you for posting
Great demonstration of “stepping over” for the arm bar and dominance. I like that he encouragement to come to class as well by saying “if you come to class you won’t be man handled,” so true.
Love that arm bar setup from mount! Also thanks for the narration, I struggle with strong and explosive blue belts everyday, good to hear the way apply your strategy, thanks brother
I hit this sub probably 75% of the time. Pass guard, stay heavy in side control, then go for it. I have to force myself to do other submissions because this one is almost a guaranteed submission.
Tomorrow will be day 8 for me training Gracie jiu jitsu. I was reviewing the online video for tomorrow's lesson a few hours ago and we're learning the shrimp escape from side control, in three variations. At 3:27 that shrimp escape would have come in real handy. Instead of framing you he could have pulled your head to his chest, worked to get his right hand by your hip, shrimp out, get the right leg in and the left one around, then straighten his body creating space for him to hip out to the right, get the right leg out and around, and you're in his guard. Now, it's so new to me that I can see the applicability here immediately but if he was a blue belt that wasn't training, he must have taken a lot of time off.
Easier said than done. What you can’t see is the angle of my knee and pressure on his right leg. He can’t shrimp effectively because of this and I am doing what is called a “knee slide pass.” I also have control of his right elbow/tricep which also inhibits his ability to shrimp.
I've been out of training for 2 weeks because of some health things. There are many reasons people don't come to class other than just not wanting to. Liked the narration though. Thanks for the video. I'll be watching bjj vids until I get better.
It's not just the age difference that's impressive, doing feet to floor is brave for older practitioners. Inexperienced grapplers are wild & unpredictable, doing takedowns is brave - real risk of injury. I would be worried the Blue Belt would hurt me during the takedown.
Wash rinse repeat... those are the words of VINNY CANNABERO BLK belt instructor long ago... Today IAM purple 🟣💜 belch ...and all I do is wash rinse repeat....still 7years in
Just found your vids and really enjoy. is it possible for someone in their 40's with no martial arts training or wrestling in their background to start bjj? obviously injuries are a concern, not 20 anymore lol you seem like a very safe coach and not sure if that's typical
It's never too late. It has more to do with your desire and attitude in learning than anything. The hard part is finding good training partners and a great instructor. Remember, typically the harder you go the harder your partner will go on you.
thank you for the reply, I'm in Cleveland, not sure if you know anyone or a gym here that you recommend or know the trainers. I know it's a small fraternity of high level guys so maybe you've crossed paths with someone in this area. thanks for the reply and the encouragement
It's never too late to start! In my gym we have people 50+ that recently started and they're doing great, most of all they're having a lot of fun. Most BJJ school are very nice, and adapt the classes and techniques to your skill level and physical competence.
Been training since I was 20, 9 years later and I'm a two stripe Purple Belt now, maybe in three more years I'll be a black belt. Heh cool, that means I'll have alot more years of fight in me left.
Johnny humes you can still train, just don’t spar hard and just work on technique and flow rolling, preferably with higher belts- they will be better at control and watching out for your injury.
Jason did great! Instructor did better. I missed class for 15 or so yrs now but been practicing my boxing and kick boxing. The basic tenets I still work with/around are the ground is ur friend, as is gravity, power is from the inside, and Don't tie up or go to ground with bjj unless u caught them very effectively with a blow, and even then, be Very quick about it. great "playful" narration by instructor
I don't train enough... I'm a white belt and I get anxiety sometimes about coming... Usually I just push through it and go but other times I skip... Do you think it's a common situation for beginners?
If you are very strong, athletic type, you have some sports behind you, and have natural instict for fighting, all you need is 1 year of training, to be dangerous in combat, even for pro. Pro still win, but you can see problems, not by easy victory, he needs to really try to stop him.
How does not training for two months hurt your skill? I’ve taken three six month breaks with a few scattered month breaks over the course of five years. and I’m way better than ever. It’s because I want to learn, not just win. But you’re saying there’s no excuse? If him training for two extra months would cause him to be significantly better that would be weird. Check out pritt Michelson! I wouldn’t have said it but when you’re making fun of students over and over in a video, when you have no idea what their life circumstances are or mental life, it’s weird, and I’m responding to that. Not an environment where people thrive in their knowledge. Build a gym where people want to be there because of the love and training value. Or just insult, I don’t care, I’m just telling you what works:) Awesome single leg finish, I’m gonna steal that!
Not training effects your timing and even your skill if you’re a beginner and have not yet mastered those skills. There are so many techniques in jiu jitsu. It’s very difficult to master them all. Even black belts are limited in how many techniques they’re really good at. With that said, Everybody gets handled in jiu jitsu. Even black belts do when there’s someone better. There’s no shame in tapping to someone else. At least if you don’t come to class you have an excuse.
When you're making a vid to make yourself feel better because you need to stroke your ego. "Look at me I'm an older man who obviously am envious of a young, strong youth. So lemme make a video of me, a BLACK BELT handling a BLUE BELT." 15 years older, shit 15 years more experience than him. Been a black belt for how long? He's been blue belt for like what a couple months? Rell cool bruv.
zerowins2005 I am a fairly laid back person and don’t take it that way. Yes, I am his professor and more importantly a friend too. A lot of my guys are competitive and in this case, this student was progressing very well but had a set back and wasn’t able to train for about 3 months.
@@hoppy760 look here's the thing when you age out you age out, if you can no longer meet the standard of your discipline then it's time to cash in your chips ☹️ SORRY
I love watching old guys beat up younger guys. Warms my heart.

John - get your ass back in the gym and quit wussing out. There,, just some tough love you need to hear
Congratulations to the 53 years old instructor.
53 is not old
Why congratulations ? He’s supposed to win he’s a black belt
If you think his professor is smashing on him your crazy in my opinion. Seemed like a nice roll session and a lot to be taken from as the blue belt. Why did I get caught in the armbar? I hid my arm but left the underhook and straight armbar. Thank you for posting
You can tell that you have created a great environment at you school. Great vid... thanks man!

Great demonstration of “stepping over” for the arm bar and dominance. I like that he encouragement to come to class as well by saying “if you come to class you won’t be man handled,” so true.

Rolling w/ an awesome professor...priceless.
The commentary is really good, do another one, nice!
Im 65, roll with my guys every day.
I thought the 53 year old was the bald head guy. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
and he was being nice.... gently helping the blue belt to the ground instead of the Cormier smash :D
Damn. This makes me want to train... like right now
Fitness with Dal P Heyyy whatup my man! Love your vids.
Can't be sleeping on those armbars from side control. If you're gonna miss days, don't miss those days.
very nice commentary
Love it! By the time I’m a black belt I’ll likely be around 56ish, gives me hope
Great footage, thank you professor
Legend has it...Jason never came back to class
I like the authenticity of these rolls
I subbed
Love ur video
Love ur videos, mate. So technical, methodical and great pressure. Lot to learn, and that near side armbar is a thing of beauty. Basic and methodical.
I hit this sub probably 75% of the time. Pass guard, stay heavy in side control, then go for it. I have to force myself to do other submissions because this one is almost a guaranteed submission.
great roll , your boy needs to get to class more often :) good job coach
Cool to see a gym that actually allows the lower belts to roll with higher belts.

I agree. The coach was a bit dogmatic I felt.
It's not just the age difference that's impressive, doing feet to floor is brave for older practitioners. Inexperienced grapplers are wild & unpredictable, doing takedowns is brave - real risk of injury. I would be worried the Blue Belt would hurt me during the takedown.
Awesome! So inspirational!
Nice roll! I'm subscribing
Awesome posting this professor! I’m 48 and my students also are way younger haha! OSS!!!
Awesome commentary
That arm bar set up!

Beautiful moves 👍
great job. thanks for sharing
Tight arm locks. Great technique. 👏
The guy who commented below me took the words out of my mouth
love the armbar while knee is still on the ground
Keeping the knee on the ground helps keep everything heavy and tight.
You guys roll really nice at your academy
Is there any reason his coach name and shame him for not attending classes on the YT instead have a chat with him directly?
Beautiful. You use your weight/body positioning perfectly. Blue Belt is gassed. ha ha . Point proven. COME TO CLASS. ha ha ha . OSS !
How he dot his blue belt if he rolling like a piece of wood?
Watching this in 2020 and I just wanna go to class
- I am fitter, younger and stronger.
- And i am bjj black belt.
3:15 that look of physical and emotional exhaustion so well known to the lowly blue belt.
Get to class and train!
Injuries: Whoah fella where do you think your going?
Still an amazing clip
Now I am terrified of going back after months of not training regularly!
I am a white belt. My dream is to move effortlessly like you black belts!

Hey, loved your video great commentary, but the link to your website in the description was spelled wrong so it leads to nowhere when you click it.
Thanks for the heads-up. Just fixed it.
This makes me want to train one day but I am scared as I am 2 months post ACL surgery and fear of re injury
Johnny humes you can still train, just don’t spar hard and just work on technique and flow rolling, preferably with higher belts- they will be better at control and watching out for your injury.
Tom Mulroy III thanks mate
3:18 *that's not good* lol 4:09 *you were having WAY TOO MUCH FUN* right there!! Great relaxed, yet effective, rolling!!
Hi Mark, what stopped you finishing the omaplata at 1:06?

I liked the commentary

yes for sure
It is, and it should go away with time. Go and enjoy yourself.
I've been at it two years and my stomach is feeling funny right now as I get ready for practice.
Ouchi Gari. Oh yeah
To be fair he did good for a blue belt
yes and I would expect a black belt to school a blue...no matter what the ages are and who has been coming to class.
Why r u putting the blue belt on blast
Boa... o faixa azul é forte, mas a técnica prevalece
very good , every bjj guy should know judo
Great video, liked and subbed. Hope you post more like this.
10 seconds in, and my only thought is, they look around the same age 🤨 😆
Nice armbar setups. But dude- your a black belt owning blue belts and filming it while reminding us how “strong he is”. Anyway it was cool commentary
It's scary to think that this blue belt is this tough WITHOUT training.
lol
Semper Fi 1 and a half years to be rough lol this guys clueless

Edfreded C Vista in San Diego north county
Hows a 36 year old blue belt young
That is young when you're in you're 50s. Looking back, I felt like superman when I was 36.
Fair enough meant no disrespect. Respect
When you eat your fruits and behggies
My old boxing coach used to say: "everyone wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die/ everybody wants to be a boxer but nobody wants to train"
Spanked the guy on the mat and for not going to class. Ouch
Beautiful techniques not so good camera guy
He's that easy to get armbars on and he has no armbar defense? Hmmm
I would say he needs to come to class. Haha
Very good video, thank you. Jason get ur ass in gear or ur gonna get roasted 😆😆
Damn and they were all armbars lmao

Black belt?Under who?
Carlos Valente who is a Coral Belt awarded by Rickson Gracie
Explain "young". 36 years old is an Uncle for me. Or explain where a 23 year old will fit.
Go watch soul fighters videos!!
Your student was slapping the mat after submission. Seems disrespectful.

Gotta be advanced to get an orange belt.
He's 38, i don't know about young and strong
Bald dude looks like Mac Lethal
Jason sucks at wrestling those single legs made me lol
Shouldn’t have missed class

Haha that was fun to watch
OK 👍👍👌👍
He doesn't look that young ? I would say he is 30s
He’s definitely young-35 vs 53.
