This guy is giving me inspiration. He skated from 87 till 96 and then quit for 20 years, getting back into it in 2016 at age 40. I skated from 97 till 2006, and literally just a week ago got myself a board again after I decided to give skating another try after 18 years of not skating. I'm now 38 and nowhere near as skinny as I used to be back in my skating days, but I can still ollie probably a good 6 inches or so, and after many tries I'm still able to land a kickflip. Last weekend was the first time I took the board out for about 30 minutes. I felt the soreness in my thighs for almost a week. Yesterday was the second time out and it felt a bit easier than the first time. At this age, I can see myself focusing primarily on flatground stuff just as this guy is.

I can do many pressure flips but to be able to execute them on that level of consistency and level of technicality I have a lot of work to do. I used to love kickflip underflips but in middle school “the skater” scene was always telling me it’s not a real trick and how pressure tricks don’t count. So I stopped doing them and just started doing more traditional skate tricks down gaps, stairs, and handrails. ofcourse you can reach that level bro. one thing that will make you get good at skating faster is to not be competitive in your thinking. by that i mean never compare yourself to anyone else. the battle should only be with yourself. replace that thinking with passion for skating. why are kids better at progessing on a board? because they love it more. they want to go out and try what they see. I've skated for 25 years and it is my biggest regret, comparing myself to others. I'm only telling you this because the quicker you get over that, the quicker you can be free to learn for the right reasons, and the better you can socialise with other skaters., the best way to learn is to be friends with the local skaters and you build eachother up. imo that is the only way to progress in skating. it should feel like a brotherhood because it really is.

Yep, stoked this came up in my feed. 52 still skating, started skating about 1978 but with home made decks with chopped up modded roller skates, then surf brands made some decks like Gordon and Smith but hard to get in Australia, then fiberglass and plastics started becoming popular and readily available. After the Boneite and Boneite XT generation of Powell Peralta boards (that era about 86 87, don't hate me, it's just an easy way of referencing the times) is when innovation and ability really rally started to change the scene dramatically. thru to concaves - dog ears - bigger (really big) concaves then finally double kicks inspired by flatland and freetyle. Subbed from Oz 🛹 So many of G's tricks doing my head in...

His timeline mirrors my own: skated as a teenager from like ‘87 on, stepped away for a minute, got another board in ‘96, etc. Only difference is that he kicks my ass in terms of ability 😂
