      I guess he did that because it was mostly a technical failure. I think semenko had the strength to get both lifts done, but it popped a technical mistake at the second attempt and perhaps at the third lack of confidence bc of the failed lift, since he didn't broke the parallel

      you get more out a squat suit than you do a deadlift suit so in open lifting the squat being a bigger lift is more common than in classic lifting where its only really the 120+ lifters that are this way.

      Heres my idea, 2 modified breaking scissor lift tables that sit under the plates that follow on the way down with a laser guided gap distance as to not disturb the lift.
      on the way up of the lift, the bar is attached to the table with a strap by a small gap all simultaneously. This lifting of the tables to rise should be included in the overall lift.
      Should the athlete lose control, the bar drops onto the table either side to a gradual halt with the automated breaking, the atlete may fall down but the bar does not. All the tech already exists, laser guide comes from builder levelling tripods and programmed to maintain a small distance by telling the table to go down.
      It wouldn't be difficult to do

    There was this guy in my gym who asked me to spot him on his squat. The one where you stand behind his ass and hug him. I saw some other dude spotting him a couple of days before. He was struggling so hard for 250ish pounds.
    I said no. I am not going to risk him dropping the bar on my arms. What's the point of spotting in a power rack anyways? If you can't get it up just go down until the pins catch the bar. Thats the whole point of a power rack and it's perfectly safe. There is no shame in it. In fact you have to fail a couple of times to get off your comfort zone.
    I was just commenting because I saw these spotters completely fail to do their one job. Can't blame them though

      Bro, i guess you never failed squat or you don t practise it. In the squat, when you fail and you re already down, its more dificult that what you think to get out, especially if you practise low bar. Most of the times, of you aren t enought quick you hit your low back with the bar.

      I would like a strap system that was built around a cage would be good. so the straps were on a pulley of some kind and if the head spooter feels the weight is lost then he can press a button that retracts the straps and take the weight off the lifter. I hope you understand where I am coming from with this and can make it happen :)

      John Miller that still leaves a little room for error, someone could easily forget to press the button, something that’s automatic could fail too because technology fails all the time, the bar idea sounds good to have it at the squatters depth range, it’s also just knowing how to let go of the weight without hurting yourself

He’s tall so it’s still a good range of motion, plus his legs aren’t that far apart at the max pull like some others who look like they’d easily fall if blow on them. Sumo style is actually a really great style that has it’s benefits. Besides, at least it’s not like someone with an extreme arch on a bench press.

    • @JohnmillerPowerlifting
      @JohnmillerPowerlifting  6 лет назад +7

      Don S OK first off welcome to the lifting world. Second I need to point out this is equipped lifting so they are using equipment like a squat suit that is helping them lift about 50kg or more over what they could do without it. My next point is size does not equal strength. In order to be big you need to train a certain way much like a bodybuilder will and to get strong you also need to train to met this goal. In very general terms keeping your sets to 3 to 5 reps and the weight heavy enough to fit this you will get stronger not bigger and if your sets are 8 reps and up you will get bigger. Now as you will find it is much more complex than this but at this stage this is as basic as it can be made. So as you get more experience with your lifting you will come to understand this better. If you want any more help or information just let me know

Break your stick in hockey, get a new stick. Break the pole in a vault, get a new one. Break your suit in equipped lifting, come back with a new suit. It's usually not easy to get the suits on and set properly and it's amazing he was able to come back and hit a world record weight.

      you must be new to powerlifting. Classic or RAW as you call it has only been around since 2010. IPF has always been a single ply equipped lifting fed going back to the 1970's powerlifting itself was mainly a equipped sport until recent times

      For me Classic is the best I do respect geared lifting but for me it not the same. I would like to give it a try myself one day and feel what its like to use the suits and stuff like that. But in my head lifting with as little supporting equipment is the best. for someone like yourself you could squat your max for a triple in a squat suit if not more, they give you lots of energy out the hole and that probably the part weightlifters are in a class for their own when it comes to squatting.

      I not sure the difference between all time world record and world record. but to confirm that he now holds the world record on Squat and total in the 105kg open IPF powerlifting class. If you could explain the difference more that would be great.

      John Miller Isn't all time world record the best record set in any federation ever? That's atleast what i thought

    • @JohnmillerPowerlifting
      @JohnmillerPowerlifting  6 лет назад

      Jonas TheViking you could be right with that one. I don't really follow many of the smaller feds. But I would say its only fair to compare like for like and do our best to give each lifter the credit they deserve for there achivemnt.

      John Miller Yes, i agree. I'm not 100% sure if i'm right. It just makes sense to me that that's what's meant by all time world record.

      Squat suit helps more than deadlift plus in squat you've got wraps on knees.

    Question....why are these "bench shirts" and arching-the-back allowed? I may be ignorant of something, but aren't these another form of performance enhancers? I'd like to see a powerlifting contest with no aids...or A.I.D.S. for that matter. Just raw power. I doubt he dropped the bar more than 10 inches on the bench press. It's obviously allowed or within in the rules, but it kind of seems like a loophole to me. I could understand if these shirts, kneewraps, et al are used for hernia prevention, ligament tears, etc. Still doesn't convince me that they should be used. If you get hernia's and you have Greg Oden knees, then you're not the strongest guy out there...life is tough. Someone set me straight, please.

    • @JohnmillerPowerlifting
      @JohnmillerPowerlifting  6 лет назад +5

      you will never find a totally raw comp. everyone using a least a belt and wrist wraps across the board. you may find a few local events that are totally raw but never on the world stage. What you are watching is called powerlifting and it dates back to the 1970's. single ply suits that support the body in squat and deadlift and a shirt that helps in bench. In the last 5 or so years there is now a Classic class where the suits and knee wraps are not used just knee sleeves, belts and wrist wraps. The Classic is the driving force behind the sport just now and what is really getting people into the sport. however powerlifting will also be equipped lifting and after a few years in the sport you will want to give it a try, after all who doesn't want to lift more. Just like Bolt when he runs the 100m or any race for that matter, he put on equipment that gives him an unnatural level of grip on the ground due to the spikes on the bottom of his shoes. that is no different than putting on a suit and lifting an unnatural amount of weight. I just dont understand why powerlifting gets hate for using gear yet every other sport like running and strongman that use gear it's accepted and they are still praised for what they do. So my closing comment would be enjoy the lifting for what it is, respect the lifters for the effort they put in and congratulate them for what they accomplish and I feel that applies to all sports not just powerlifting.

    • @JohnmillerPowerlifting
      @JohnmillerPowerlifting  6 лет назад

      Damian Hughes yeah bit eddie is still a strong guy when it comes to bench even though it's not really a strongman event. I am not sure he could perform as well as this guy if they were lifting in the same format. But I think you could say that with just about anyone. When you take someone out of their sport and put them in another they are not going to be able to perform as well as the guys already there.

    • @JohnmillerPowerlifting
      @JohnmillerPowerlifting  6 лет назад

      +Zakaria Bl that just depends on what you think makes a person the strongest man on the planet. For example Eddie can't squat as much as Ray Williams he is about 20 to 30kg behind ray on the squat. Also I have not seen Eddie max out his deadlift with wrist wraps but that's by the by. All you can really say about two people in different sports and body weight is that they are the best at there given sport.
