It would also make it possible to make a proper digital art without the use of ai. Basically make art without the skills or practices.

I would probably train myself like the person in the video. It seems so cool that this type of technology is a thing, and the fact we can use it to give even more expression to ourselves through VR, and more mobility in the real world is amazing to me.
I would definitely be training myself to move my avatar’s tail first, then go to the ears once I have more experience. To be honest, I would probably spend hours each day training myself and trying to get better. I now have this on my list of things to do in the future.

@@PAPicturesOfficial I think that's tough considering you have to go through the firewall that protects the device. Since the ai has to like. Figure it out aswell as to how to break through something it doesn't have yet know how to break unless you know how to break said device. You have to be really smart on hacking through the security

In 2012, I believe, a company in Japan actually made a tail that reacted to your heartbeat and some brain readings. I also believe that someone did the same with ears. And this is outside of VR! This isn't entirely new, but the ability to do it in VR is still amazing.

A project I engaged with that you may find interesting was “body language brain mapping” or “BLBM” and it allows computers to associate your own body language to your emotions and thoughts. What’s cool is that it was scarily accurate, even for 2017 when I was a part of the program I was able to get a computer to predict what I was going to do based on certain physical cues, usually it was how my eyes moved or how my tone of voice changed, it was even able to compensate for intentional changes. The accuracy was around 90-something percent. I hope this technology gets used for good and to make some interesting content
My main wonder is the possibility of phantom limb effect, I still live day to day being able to visualize myself in a place where I am not. This often happens with people who have lost limbs, they feel itching or pain or something where their missing limb is, for me it’s my whole body, but for someone in VR using this on an avatar, they may end up feeling those ears, may not be a bad thing, but it is something to be observed and discussed

It is not entirely true, that he teaches himself to move a group of muscles he doesn't have.
Like you said, the ehadband is reading the state of micro muscles on your head.
So what he's actually doing is training himself to deliberatly use these micro muscles in a way a computer can interpret.
it's basically like you have additional buttons on a controller you can press with additonal finger. But these "fingers" are small muscles on your head you normally don't use.

I've been to a certain place called the brain museum where they had these BCI's connected to little spider robots, and the robots would move based on how much general brain activity it is reading. e.g. pondering something or daydreaming would make the spider run intensely because of the amount of thought being processed in the mind, while distracting oneself from their thoughts like blinking very fast or staring at one spot without a single thought in the mind would make the spider stop completely because you're not thinking. I'd say it's far from actual mind control so far, but we're slowly getting there !!!

I think when most people think of brain-computer interfaces they think of stuff like The Matrix, where you have to have machinery and ports embedded into your brain or spine, which is some scary stuff, so it's comforting to see it not be that, if that makes sense. It's nice to see us doing cool things with technology that don't require splicing it into ourselves.
And given the small form factor of the headband being used I think we'll see at least one headset incorporate something similar as a selling point, like the Vive Pro Eye did. And if that's the case maybe we'll see more nuanced facial animation support show up in more games as a result. I'm really excited to see where this goes.

and imagine if the scanners ended up having more diverse designs so that people could choose one to fit their personality and looks?
I would 100% splurge to get me my own functioning ears and tail cause itd be pretty damn cool

That's actually really intresting and great idea to put into my head for solving this problem I was running into with an avatar I'm recreating from a game.
The avatar has a backpack that has an extra set of arms and hands that move independently of the actual arms.... kinda doc-ock style but not for movement purposes.
The problem is as of now there's not really a good way to control them without doing one or a mix of 3 things.
    1) bind them to my actual arms and move them puppet style
    2) give them physbones to move and be posed
    3) make seperated animations and assign them to gestures and/or an animation group toggle
But with this idea I could potentially move them with my thoughts and (albeit not as complex and effective as actual arm movement)
This could be also helped with doing something like Cosears does and use motion (in this case head movement) to emulate mood

There is another really cool Brain Computer interface known as Next Mind for some VR systems. It functions by reading eletrical signals from the visual cortex right at the back of your head. In a neat tech demo designed for the device you can focus on an enemy who dispaly a sort of brain QR code which you can focus on to kill them with literal telepathy!

it sounds pretty cool and very interesting because the number of hardware devices that people are making and adding in VRchat would basically just be ready for player one and we got this before GTA 6 that's crazy but cool

So many people are gonna use that in the Murder game on VRC and make it look like they're using their Grab / grip thing when they aren't.

I wonder how long it will take for some furry engineers and programmers to team up and make prosthetic ears and tails that would use BCI's

Given the fact that the Phantom Limb phenomena has been apparent to varying degrees in VR chat this technology is very much credible. Now that I think about it, I wonder if such a feeling could be possible for certain people to feel what is essentially non existent ears or other extra non existent appendages.
Any ways there is no telling what kind of amazing things could come from this research, who knows eventually a person could role play almost anything to a far more immersive level. It could even possibly expand our capabilities of thought beyond our normal capabilities. Good luck to them and thanks for sharing such innovative developments like this.

you know how amputees, or people missing limbs in general, have something called "phantom pain" or "phantom limbs"? well, yeah, we gonna have that with limbs that don't even exist... and i'm here for it

Back in collage, I saw an article about a similar technology being funded by Meta. I was doing a paper on Quest 2's success and the Horizon World failure.
The technology looked really cool, but I knew Meta was going to pull the plug when Horizon Worlds eventually failed.
I don't know what happened to Meta's version but its likely been cut already. So, I'm glad someone else was working on this technology.

So Raeal if what I got from this video is accurate we all could do so much more with the BCI unit much more than just move our ears and tail around like you said but if someone that is disabled puts on a VR Headset and the BCI unit they could essentually have the ability to walk move body parts they they can not normally so this could help a LOT of people and maybe later in the futur they could make robitc legs for people that can't walk, or even nano bots for the spines of people that don't have the ability to do anything this is truly amazing.

i doubt it would be convenient but i think it would be really cool if you controlled movement in vr with something like a BCI, i think this my be one path vr may go down before an actual omnidirectional treadmill is made.

Im mostly waiting until meta releases a quest with a BCI and face tracking at this point honestly.
Like, that is the dream headset. Pancake lessens, inside out tracking (like the pro controllers) same solution for full body like those new vive ones, a built in BCI and face tracking. And im in, everything I need for VR Chat.

I could see a lot of use cases outside of the furry community as well. I use a robot to identify myself on the internet and my mind is racing on what micromucles i can track to toggle different modes, visual effects, and axis of rotation on my general character design!

Honestly i wonder just how far this can be pushed. How many non-existent VR parts and pieces can end up being moved via BCI at the same time?
The absolute mental training required for just ears or a tail seems difficult enough, but I'd love to see someone try and push it to its absolute limits. Ears, a tail, an extra pair of arms, both of those new hands, etc etc
