INFO: The Desert Sessions is a musical collective and the original idea of Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme. As a matter of fact it was formed in 1997, just a year after Queens. Homme always believed in the idea of creating and being a part of something different and classic in music by inviting other talented musicians for collaborations. Now you might think ‘sure, who doesn’t want to create music that sounds different and classic?’ But what makes Homme different is his approach to this creative process. The idea is simple. Invite a group of musicians, all from different backgrounds into the California desert, get to know each other despite personal differences and finally, have an open mind to explore new creative ideas together. It essentially sounds like a summer camp for musicians.
It’s been 16 years since the project last put out an album, but now they’re back with two new volumes. And like every other Josh Homme fan, i can't wait to give them a listen. In this video i’ll give you a brief introduction to the project’s early history, creative philosophy and some behind-the-curtain facts about their upcoming album release.

Lie I'm having a lot of fun in your discord server
Okay I think you should check on your server every once in a while. It's not your fault, you can't control how people but I think you should check it sometimes.
@@b00sted33 awesummmmmness....thankyou so much....I need to sing on a desert sessions album...its my crazy unrealistic dream that I will make come true...my life needs too !!
@@tsarinamccowat7519 Lol i have that same dream! Let's do it!!

6:21 - "lesser known names..." then proceeds to say "Les Claypool, Billy Gibbons" etc.
If ZZ Top and Primus aren't known to most, I'd be very, very surprised.
I mean referred to the known and lesser known in one whole sentence. They're definitely the more famous ones yes.
Most people know who ZZ Top are, but I don’t think very many people know who primus are, they don’t exactly make normal music
Yeah: that comment threw me, like, lesser known cause you're a toddler? Ok. I get that. But if you don't know them, then
"do you know yourself? "🤯
JK 😁
Viper 6172 primus sucks
The amount of weed must be insane
dario HC Weed and sweat is the formula for good music apparently.

And mooooorree

The desert sessions are my favorite pieces of music. Definitely do some more research and listening! Vol 1 and 2 was written over a week of eating psychedelic mushrooms.
I don't doubt that. Dude i'm going to plunge into a lot more qotsa and DS related stuff real soon! So stay tuned.
@@LieLikesMusic Vol 1 and 2 is essential Josh Homme material
Screamin' eagle is my favorite DS song. When that popped up while I was listening to 1&2 my mind was blown.
in every one of the records there are 4 or 5 punk, stoner or hard rock gems. definitely worth to check them all out
Damn RUclips demonetization, forcing you to skip the part where everything started with Josh and his friends having a three-day psychedelic mushroom session.
Daniel Yeverino Hehe 😊 He hasn't confirmed the trips for this occation. But i know they've taken that path in the past.
One of my favourite songs ever is from Desert Sessions -- Powdered Wig Machine
That's a cool song
One of my favorites too. PJ Harvey is amazeballz
I am especially interested in Matt Berry and Les Claypool's efforts this time around
preachercaine Yeah it's exciting!
Yea he was gr8 in the I.T Crowd
Why is everyone reporting on this Dessert Sessions acting like Toornst Hulpft is a real name? It's gotta be Dave Grohl.
Dwight Cloverdale Have you seen the latest interview? Homme refers to him as a real person. He told a whole story of how his studio appearance
Trent Reznor apparently
"It" is actually a Prince cover. Alain kills it tho
Cant say anythin 2 u anymor
Why didn't i think of something like this?
George Harrison Too busy playing the sitar i bet.
Because you’re dead fella
Teens of Thailand is a technical masterpiece. Only overshadowed by it's ability to be unable.
If you guys haven't, listen to Desert Sessions Volume 7, its a damn masterpiece
Billy Gibbons and Les Claypool lesser known? LOL
Thanks for this video, had never known of this. Really nice concept that Josh Homme put forward. Les Claypool is one of my favourite musicians, so will really be checking these out. 👍👍
A#1 off of Vol.6 is one of the best riffs ive heard out of Brant Bjork! give it a check out Lie :)

Do something on the Brian Jonestown massacre pleaseeeee
You forgot "in my head" in the DS and QOTSA song comparison.
Great video dude! Glad I could help with it
-Dave
Every time I listen to this, I feel transported to a place I’ve never been to.
How cool!
Nenada girl boy Tom and A#1 are few good ones too.
Who is Toornst Hulpft? There is zero information about him on the internet
Josh uses "wacky" pseudonyms on the DS albums.
I wouldn't make a docu on a series of albums if I'd only listened to them (or even half of them!)
I’m so fuckin hyped for the new desert sessions recorded it’s going to be great
Don't you feel a little embarrassed you made a video on the desert sessions when you have only listened to one album?
The picture of all of them is magical beyond belief
I was pretty sure Josh sang on the desert sessions version of make it with chu doesn't sound right that mark did how do u know for sure?
Should watch Matt Berry's show on Netflix! Toast of London. Josh Homme even features in an episode.
Yeah, he was in house of fools with Morgana Robinson who's the half sister of Brody Dalle
Understanding Silverchair or Layne Staley
What is the book you are using for the pictures in the video
Understanding Aphex Twin?
What book or magazine are you showing on this video? (Like going through some glossy pages)
It's the biography about the band "Queens of the stone Age - No One Knows" the updated version by Joel McIver.
6:27 Billy F(ucking) Gibbons
What's the book at 0.43?
Dirty, dusty, gnarly desert sessions. Love it
Same here. Love that JH keeps busy. He said that there would be a new qotsa record coming sooner than expected, but i guess it turned out to be a DS project instead.
It be cool if the Original People that consist of Mark Lanegan, Nick Oliveri, All the Dudes from Kyuss Including Alfredo Hernandez And Dave Catching came back to DS.
More stick figure art! 🤘
Screamin Eagle tho
rickshaw is amazing
Matt Berry? The guy from Darkplace, the IT Crowd, and Toast of London? That surprised me.
FUCK YES
What is the song at the very end? (Just a couple of seconds)
It's an unreleased song from the new Desert Sessions volumes.
Rancho de la Luna is the second most important ranch in music history, after Ram Ranch.
It relates to desert sessions because a lot of people involved were also involved in UNKLE from war stories onwards they worked with Chris Goss, Josh Homme and those guys.
Holy crap! At 0:45 and 3:05 - Dave Catching, with the shades and without his beard, is a dead ringer for Frank Black. I thought at first that you had made a mistake but then I saw the leather pants. I can’t imagine Charles is a leather pants guy.
Good video, thanks.
Hey brokunas here... keep up with the interesting content lie looking forward for more
Hey man! Thanks for always being here super early.
Josh Homie. Yo!
yep...
Brief indeed.
If you haven't, seriously check out the first two sessions. They are without a doubt, the best.

Rickshaw is an absolute masterpiece. Glad to see you appreciate it to, Lie Likes Music
its 2 volumes per records. there were only 5 releases.
Amazing video dude. Please do QOTSA first album
Poll Wants a Crack Rock is the best song off the DS.
I love the song nenada I think it's from volumes 7 and 8
Does Toornst Hulpft even exist or is it someone like Carlo Von Sexron?
They put this video on their playlist, regarding the new release
You should listen to vol. 1 and 2 and focus on Cowards way out
You should do an understanding Grunge scene Video!
Your videos are pretty informative, thanks. Please keep it up.
I don't even know what this is but I saw a new Lie Likes Music video so I tapped it

The last really good " Collective " LP was in 2010 by Tired Pony " The Place We Ran From " Members of REM , Snow Pony & Belle & Sebastian + Zoey Deschanel & Jackknife Lee. A personal , poignant album. Highly recommended.
Desert sessions 7-8 has been my favorite I’ve listened to.
I've had no idea Matt Berry is a musician!
Hey I saw you in the Primus Discord
Not a real Homme fan (apart from his work in Kyuss), but I found this really interesting. Great exposition aswell!
Thanks dude. Glad you found it interesting!
what was that book at the beginning of the video?
Carla Azar appreciation comment.
Boneface is doing all the artwork again. That's third in the row now.
Augustinas Gailiūnas boneface isn’t doing the art, the guy who did all the art for Era Vulgaris is doing it this time 🤘🏻
Whats the outro song?
what is the song in the outtro of the vid?
Noses in roses ,forever desert sessions (11-12)
Desert sessions? Count me in lmao
I bet you're thinking of the stuff you're eating after dinner.
Can’t wait to see what Royal Blood’s Mike Kerr will bring to the table
Meh...
Very interesting
Going to a Hangin’ is the best Desert Sessions tune. IMO.
Hope this isnt gonna be music's version of Tony Hawk's pro skater 5
Freedly Beedly Boop Oof that would be dissapointing.
So, that photo of the ranch, keep left on that dirt road, Brant Bjork lives there.
Yellow #5
M.C. Landstander Really? Seems like the classic desert musicians are creating their very own neighborhood.
What’s the outro song?
I went there, I was simultaneously bit by a rattlesnake, stung by a scorpion and struck by lightning all at once. Somehow I woke up in North Dakota and now I rip on the clarinet .its metal as F
Cool story bruh
You too? Are you fucking with me right now?
I'm sold Matt Berry on the new album, he's big in the UK for TV shows more like "The IT Croud" (series 2 onwards) and other television roles. But his music as far as I'm aware isn't as known. A very talented man.
goin to a hangin is my number 1 song from deser sessions
I see a lot of people saying that!
Yes more Josh Homme 🤙
traveling at the speed of inspiration , aint that a quote from their lastest video
MrSanitsuj Yupp you got that right.
Just extraordinary videos man, keep it up.

I'm liking these Breif Introdutions, Lie.
Serenitatis Thanks mate. More coming soon.
You have a very good taste of
music ;)
You too my man hehe
Was waiting for this one!
Esteban E Cool. The 7 sec snippet at the end is a teaser for one of their new songs. More coming soon!
Be interesting to hear these new Desert sessions, Kyuss and early Queens and first few Desert sessions were pretty good even Those crooked Vultures, but last few Queens albums have been shit.
Every Queens album has been great. Each time different, but still great artistry.
@@louiskrugercreates Music is a funny thing, different strokes for different folks, but personally i think things have gone down hill since Songs for the deaf and progressively got less interesting with each album.
@@Indonesiansurftravel 100% each to his own.
Kinda had me @ Homme, Berry, Claypool, Shears, and Homme.
Wow i'm first

This pronunciation of Josh HOMME triggers me lol
Well that's the correct way of pronouncing it. So live with it.
