Hello Pigments, Thanks for writing, I'm glad you are enjoying them. Unfortunately I'm already half-way finished and only have four left!
Maybe I can start again when I eventually move to Japan and get set up in the new living space.

Lol Grant! My favorite part of this vid was your description of the dancing pregnant lady! Makes me want to reread DHL. Beautiful! Hope your prepping for the big move is going well. Cheers! Patrick

Hello Patrick, I think it's a rather short scene towards the end of The Rainbow, but it is kind of important in their relationship. But it was such a long time ago. I'm really big on Zola and Balzac these days, but I am looking forward to going back to D.H. one day. Hope you are well Patrick!

Hello Cake! I'm happy to hear that. Beauty and Sadness is pretty wonderful. Zorba, it was a long time ago, but also a really fun book. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

You are lit--as we used to say. I did find Lawrence boring, I'd much rather read Hardy. . Big Sur is all about Jack'd difficulty with alcohol--and actually boring. Dharma Bums was ok but just more of On the Road stuff--ultimately, as you said, to be read at a certain stage of life. I'll have to look up Kertesz, sounds interesting. I guess I got to Prague before the tourists did--more than 20 years ago. I enjoyed the inexpensive food and drink. Visited Kafka's birthplace, became familiar with the books of Bohumil Hrabal, attended many concerts at the conservatory, etc. I don't doubt it's become disneyland. Such a shame. I don't do SciFi either--even if Le Guin lived in Oregone. Which reminds me I've got a whole room of books I'd like to send to Japan if you give me an address. All the best to you and yours as always.

Hello Sal, thanks for the personal opinions of the books. You really should try to find a copy of Fateless. I've talked about that book many times, but I've always been very careful never to talk about the ending. It is really exceptional. I will mail you my copy if you like. I'll be sorry to lose it, but you've been pretty cool with me, and I would be happy to know that you will read it and appreciate it.
The move to Japan is a long way off. I just want to get some of those books into boxes and into the storage in the basement of the apartment building.
Hope you are doing well! Let me know if you want Fateless, I think it's pretty hard to come by in North America.

@ Thank you for the offer, but postage is expensive and we both might save a dime if I honestly searched for a copy of Fateless myself. There are a couple of really good used bookstores in my neighborhood and then there is also Powell’s downtown, and if need be, Thrift books and Abe books. There’s a lot of ways to look for this title. I thank you for the offer.
I thought Japan was imminent - or right after your graduation. Still, once you’ve settled, you should give me you address so that I may drop in for sushi and beer. Thanks again.

    Hey Grant:
I'm excited by my current read, a fairly recent (2023) book by Benjamin Labatut, _The MANIAC._ Demis Hassabis, the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, developer of _Alpha Zero,_ is mentioned in the third section.

"When the tourist take over, it's not a real city. Now it's just the memory of a city." Totally agree with you.
    13:48 didn't expect that😂😂
18:22 I'm still here and enjoying the way you describe the stories, and of course, your sense of humor:)))
21:41 How bad you wanna get rid of that book😂 Unfortunately I can't buy it from a middle-eastern country:)) Hope someone buy it soon.
Thank you for your great channel, you're one of my absolute favorites.

I read Small Things Like These by the Irish author Claire Keegan in the summer, and last night so the film adaptation, and we were blown away by it. It’s very rare for me not to be disappointed by a film version. I almost cried at the end of the book and likewise throughout the film. It’s about 140 pages if you want a quick read before a great film. It’s Arthouse though and a bit more difficult to find. The older you get the harder it is to come across something that impresses you so I am so grateful for that.

Hello Scarba, 'the older you get the harder it is to come across something that impresses you.' Man, isn't that the truth? I will check out the book and the film you mentioned. I've got an Irish writer on my 2025 TBR list, a video I am working on now.
Hey! I watched the trailer for that one, and really wanted to see it. I used to go to the cinema all the time when I lived in Budapest. But since I've been back in Canada I have gone 4-5 times. The last movie I saw in the cinema was Dunkirk. It's just not so much fun here.
Hope you are doing well. Thanks for the book rec!

@ I discovered a classical art house cinema here complete with it’s own cafe. I used to go to one as a teenager to watch French comedies and felt ever so sophisticated:) with subtitles of course. Now I live in Germany I can watch small British productions etc. I hope you really get the chance to see it. It’s a gem.

@@scarba Thanks Scarba, I have The Criterion collection as a part of my university library, and I suspect it will be available there before too long. Those European art cinemas are far and away better than these Canadian cinemas.
