I've been dealing with licensed FR for many years. overtightening can be a problem, it strips the saddle. One thing you can do is to make an "L" with the e, b,g and d strings so the litlle block inside the saddle also catches the bottom part of the" L" and you dont need to thight so much. Be safe!!

The saddles on the FR Special are zinc. The previous owner probably stripped it, and sold it to you that way.

I have a Floyd rose special and it's been working fine for nearly five years now. For as cheap my guitar was, I'm very happy with it. If I can't have it repaired when it eventually starts messing up, I'll probably upgrade to the original, since I enjoy the guitar.

    Happened to me as well.
High E saddle went first, then already loose Arm and finally knife edges and other saddles. All within a year.

I have a FR Special on my Fender Strat, for years I haven’t had an issue until i was just taking the saddles off the clean them and was just being a bit of an idiot and put too much force on the screw and stripped it, other than that the FR Special works quite well for me, replaced the saddle and everything is good

Time to swap the whole bridge for a original Floyd. No point in just changing parts in my opinion.

    • @Pericles777

For a 7-string though, it's a little more difficult to source the parts sometimes.

I've had similar issue with my FR special as well. The zinc saddles gets dented pretty easily so when I would do a pull up the A and low E string would go flat.

Is it possible to buy a FR original nut while having a FR special? i feel like the problem with my FRS is the nut it always clicks when i lower the tremolo arm and it barely stays in tune when i use it

  • @patrickgibson2792
    @patrickgibson2792 2 года назад +1

Doing a bunch of research on this. Seems you can replace the saddles for steel ones for about $80 for a set of 6 and the saddle blocks for titanium for about $40. $120 to upgrade. However, for about $220 you can replace the entire bridge with a Floyd Rose original; for that you get an upgraded block and better machining for fine tuners and other parts. I am planning to buy two FROriginals to replace the two FRSpecials. From what I am reading and what Floyd Rose told me you can literally just swap the Special for the Original, if you swap the nut you will have to do some other adjusting because they say the Original nut is higher, not sure why that is.

I bought a dimebag "far beyond driven" Guitar and the floyd was a special. Idk if the special is stock but every time i used that bar,it would lose tune. Or...the strings would pop out of the bridge

Spend a little more and get the original 84...full hardend steel ...solid as a rock. Upgraded mine the brass block..It makes a huge difference in sustain and tone with a tad more mids.

This just happened to me 2 days ago. I have a Floyd Rose Special in a kh-202 and i was changing strings and my saddle was stripped exactly like this where i could push the screw in anod out. Also i noticed some of the other saddles are beginning to strip. Im just going to replace it with a Floyd Rose Original.

My special did the same thing. High E saddle was stripped and the string would always pop out. Replaced the saddle with and inferior saddle from amazon. The really cheap saddle works 10x better than the FR special saddle. And like you said, once it's stripped while you're tightening it just keeps shaving out more of the cheap metal saddle. Works great with the replaced saddle but thinking about upgrading to FR original or Pro.

I have an Ibanez RG7420 I've played for 20 years and changed strings no problem. Last year I bought an LTD Kamikaze reproduction that had an FRS in it. Changed the strings a few times, but this past weekend the B-string saddled stripped. Now I have to figure out what to replace it with if not another FRS... or I can keep my current FRS for spare parts, LOL.

I’ve had the same problem. I found if you take the “block” that backs up against the string, and file, or “rough up” the side that goes up against the string, it seems to hold the string without having to torque down the screw that holds the “block” against the string👍🏻 it’s not 100% fix, but dose help

I just bought a brand new c-7 sustainiac schecter ( 7 as in 7 string). It has a Floyd Rose 1500 series, it’s amazing but I’m getting a little too much play with the arm. It bends a 1/4 inch before it effects the bridge. I’m not sure if it’s a malfunction or I am doing something wrong. The arm on this Floyd, I have to screw it in with an Allen key instead of the normal screw on from the top of the tremolo arm. This type of stuff shouldn’t happen if you spend more than 1500 for a guitar

For about 5 months I thought that the Floyd Special on my Kelly was fantastic... then parts started to wear and you will randomly hear *PLINK* once a week and I will look over and a string has popped out. The trem arm also WILL NOT stay in place at all. I bought 4 Gotoh 1996T systems to replace the Specials on some of my guitars. Cheers -Ryan

It's made of all softer metal versus the made in Germany OFR or the FR1000
I have one of each and can attest to the fact that the German steel seems indestructible while the pot metal of the FRS is getting divots and wear marks. I've never seen one completely stripped so I can only assume the last guy must've cranked on it like an ape!

The problem is they shouldn't be making saddles of zinc, full stop!!!
Even if you are careful with your stuff (and let's face it, a lot of people DON'T look after their stuff), you are still going to have a problem because zinc is far too soft, so saddles need to be hardened steel!!!

Anything from Floyd Rose has been garbage quality ever since they stopped making them in Germany under Schaller. If it isn't licensed and stamped with a company name like EVH or EBMM, it's buyer beware. Those companies, Gotoh, Schaller, and the old Schaller stamped OFR Floyds are made with hardened tool steel. Ibanez uses some weird metals that hold up pretty well (aside from the Edge 2/3) and their trems are produced by Gotoh.
