In an attempt to lift myself out of a downward spiral of depression brought on by the general mass hysteria of modern society, I head to the misty mountains for some awe-inspiring landscape photography adventures.
Things get challenging almost as soon as we hit the trail.
Not only am I stuck with a Michael Shainblum fanboy with a serious attitude but there's a pastor in our midst who keeps giving Amanda ideas. In spite of this, the clear mountain air and abundant wildflowers work wonders on my mood and I can feel my mental health improving with every agonizing step.
Will the sunset deliver some magnifiqua light, how will I resist the indecent proposals and can I gag down the vilest pasta dish ever created? Hit play to reveal all.

Seriously, how can anyone stay depressed around that woman? Great sunset image.
Gavin - I so relate to this. Dunno if it's a male thing, a middle-aged thing, or just the curse of the creative - but I've been there many times. And no matter how much my life has improved post-divorce/financial collapse, I still cop it more often than I'd expect. All I can say is, you make a lot of people happy with your work, and you do bring genuine value to those you touch (inappropriately or otherwise), so keep doing what you're doing. It really makes a difference, believe me.
Colin, a true man of culture I see, unlike you. Sean and I would be happy to do a REAL photography adventure with him in the future. 😤

Cutting through all the jokes and banter to the core: I am so sorry that you haven't been able/allowed to visit with your Mother. From one human to another, I'm so sorry about that. (any further words would just be me projecting my interpretations onto your situation, so just know that I and others are with you in the sadness and frustration).
If I could like it twice I would. Firstly keep well. Always providing great laughs, knowledge and stunning photos. Comedic timing is just gold.
Oh man, another awesome video and an even more awesome photo. It's the best of the year so far. That light... feels like a fairy tale. Looking forward to see on the next video your marriage ceremony with the lovely Amanda. It's about time! It will be the most beautify ceremony ever on top of that mountain, with Shainblum on one side, and uncle Grumpy on the other. Grow a pair and do it!
Great video! Happy thoughts smiling times. I'm right there with you. I'm 59 and I haven't seen my mother in 2 years because of the ridiculous guidelines in place. I'm feeling your pain. Hang in there. Soon you'll be hugging your mother and she'll be driving you nuts the first hour of your visiting with her! LOL

The one thing that always stands out in your videos to me aside from the amazing photos, is the camaraderie. I've seen my best friend once in the last 2 years and watching your videos makes it hit home how much a friendship, and family for that matter, should be treasured and never taken for granted.

I've been watching RUclips photography vids for many years, you & your team actually bring a smile to my face. Your combination of fine art photography & your characterizations, facial expressions and heartfelt communication surpasses many of the movies & tv shows coming out on Netflix, Amazon & Hulu, and your doing it with a hand held freaking video recorder. Pat yourself on the back. You definitely put those cameras and lenses to the test.
I found your channel yesterday and I’m addicted. I love your humour and the way you narrate your process of composition - brilliant.

haha the "Seeping Shatner" is a reality for many of us LOL. Depression is a real thing for me too and it brings down my motivation to make work but I find if I just push myself to get out there then good things tend to happen or at least I surprise myself somehow. It's really hard sometimes though lol. Sometime the voice just says you suck what are you even doing? Gotta learn not to hear the voice. Gotta say yes I can instead of no I can't :)

Amazing final shot in this video, and I completely agree with your sentiments regarding the state of the world at the moment. Never thought I'd utter these words, but just be glad you don't live here in Australia. It's still March 2020 here and we're not even allowed to do as you do in this video. Photography, as well as most things, is currently outlawed where I live.
Anyway, completely understand your state of mind as I actually see no light at the end of the tunnel in Australia, but hoping it works out better for you guys soon. Love the video, as always, and stuff like this is a great opportunity to escape from the reality of the situation here for a few minutes. Happy thoughts, smiling times. :)
I truly sympathize with the Orwellian nightmare that AU has become. Nobody saw that coming. I truly hope things improve but I fear that won't happen until the people decide to do something about it as a collective. Sadly, there are far too many people all to willing to slip into the role clipboard warrior. Little Hitlers are always waiting for a crisis to exploit.
This is great. After many years of not knowing what was going on I finally started getting treated for my depression and part of my self treatment is getting back into landscape and wildlife photography. The trips are great and one thing I plan on working on is being more deliberate and slow with my work. Enjoying the process instead of trying to get the picture and move on to the next one.
The best air, exercise, connecting with nature and laughs with pals.

On a serious note, going out for a walk or a hike, especially amongst the mountains, and doing some photography...even if my photography is terrible...really helps improve my mental health.

I know you joke a lot in your videos but you are right about the depression. Especially over the lockdowns. I live in the US and we don't have any lockdowns at the moment. I'm free to travel most anywhere in the US. Once a country loses freedom they rarely get it all back. If at all. I hope you get to see your mom soon. I only get to see mine maybe 2 or 3 times a year. I might get to see her 4 times this year.
And sadly, so many of todays trolls are all to keen to march into the pyre.

I did this last weekend. I said to my wife, "I'm going to the Otways on the weekend, on my own, just me and my Camera"... and I did. Spent a few hours in Rainforest near Hopetoun Falls and Triplet Falls on Saturday and then several hours around Kalimna Falls yesterday...
As a 53-yo Melbournian, I can relate to the every word.
