Eryn Oft Some Modern Bassoons have an Extra Key that allows you to play one more note Lower than Bb down to Low A. What they've done rather cleverly here is to adjust the size & positioning of the tone holes so that every note sounds more in tune
I was having a bit of a mental battle on going to IU or IUSB (I live very close to South Bend) but now that I see Keith is a teacher at IU, I may have to add that to the list of pros! Also, I had no idea you went to IU. That's pretty amazing!
I’m a violinist and play in my college symphony orchestra and string ensemble. Though I’ve always wanted to learn to play the bassoon because it catches my attention even the sound. Advice, can I still learn to play the bassoon?
I think it is great that you want to diversify. It may take extra time to get all the practice you want in. But I love bassoon so I think it is worth it. Maybe see if your school has a bassoon that you could try out and see how you like it? So excited for you to start your bassoon adventures!
Oh wow, I was always confused as to why it's called fagotto because In Japanese all the instruments have the same names (like clarinet being kularinetto) except with bassoon whitch is called fagotto. I never knew it was called that in other languages.

That's awesome! When you audition be sure to stop by and tell Keith I said HI! :)
How interesting! Thank you Keith and Eryn!
Thank you! 😊
Enjoyed it... what was discernable. Poor audio quality. Use a lavalier. They aren't that expensive.
Thanks! This was near the start of my channel, did the video as a test run. Better mics in the future. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you for sharing this!! Love your channel :)
+Jose Nuñez Awh- thank you for watching! :)

That is so interesting. I hadn't realized the cultural differences, until you pointed them out.
Is he the bassoon professor at IU
He teaches historical bassoon, yes!
When did the bassoon start getting lined? Also - in the Baroque Bassoon, how is the u-bend on the bottom of the butt joint constructed?
+Anders Muskens "The hard rubber liner was introduced and patented by Wilhelm Heckel in 1889." From the Heckel website
is it Vivaldi on the backround
OH MY GOD I THOUGHT NOBODY IN INDIANA PLAYED BASSOON, I WANNA LEARN IT SO BAD
Do it! You won't be disappointed. You have some fantastic bassoonists in the area that you can study with! :)
