Mario, duh. Sonic tries way too hard to be cool. Like, I can just imagine a bunch of executives in a room going like "Yes, the kids will love this!" While Mario just jumps and makes silly noises.

I like this video its telling the story of sonic and mario Origins and i like it. I like both mario & sonic because both are my favorite video game characters. First sega created the blue blur to compete the Mr. video game legend and he did but that wouldn't last long sega have to put sonic games and sega games in nintendo console. and than sonic haven't doing well than mario but than mario and sonic put their differences aside and become friends love that above sonic and mario what a great video.
I love Sonic but everyone has to admit Mario makes the better games. The main series and especially the spin offs. Compare Sonic Chronicles with all RPGs Post Paper Mario Sticker Star and is night and day
Mario has definitely been much more consistent. As someone who prefers the classic 2D Sonic games, most notably 2, S3&K and CD over essentially every Mario game, he has just simply gone through a lot more downs than Mario has since those games.
I feel like people who grew up playing both the 90's 2D Sonic games and early 2000's 3D Sonic games (like myself) would agree that Sonic as a character definitely has a lot more appeal than Mario. He's witty and funny, whereas Mario (no matter how good the game is) is limited to the same general storyline and is less dimensional. Obviously the main Mario titles have always been stellar games, but in my opinion it's Sonic's (and the rest of the cast) perdonality which has helped create (and maintain) such a loyal fanbase
