I’ve always liked the Sonic characters way more than the Mario characters. Never really enjoyed the Sonic games as much as gameplay goes but I still find myself playing some of the classic 2D games to this day.
@@StevenJones851 Yeah, while I loved the Mario movies, the Sonic movies had better storytelling and characters, this is probably a opinion, but Sonic characters are better than Mario characters, and also in the Sonic franchise you have a lot of ideas to pull from
Even if I grew up with both franchises I always prefered Mario's games over Sonic's, but in terms of the movie adaptations I vote for Sonic, because they are actual movies and not just a rollercoaster ride filled with a bunch of references
I'm voting for Sonic. I've grown to appreciate Mario, but Sonic has been my childhood hero since Sonic 2 (Genesis). And the fact that Sonic has been reinvigorated into the limelight makes me so happy.
As a fan of both Mario and Sonic games, I pick Sonic because I was really impressed with the direction of the movies. They do new things with the story and explore themes that you can remember the movies for (friendship in 1, responsibility in 2). The characterization is great across the board, especially for the characters coming from the games, which fans primarily care about. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles all stood out amongst each other with personalities that complimented both the writing and each other. Not just that, but their dynamics and interactions really make these movies stand out: the after-dance and sunset beach scenes where Sonic has a heart-to-heart with Tails and Knuckles were so much better than they had any right to be. Also the comedy at its best is UNHINGED and I love it. And going from that to the Mario Movie, I was pretty disappointed. It wasn’t so much of a visionary take on the source material as it was a corporate extension of the source material. I didn’t get excited about seeing these constant Easter eggs everywhere (it is nice to have, though) because the trailers did that already. Most of the Brooklyn scenes were my favorite parts because it had Mario and Luigi together (the best dynamic only because the rest sucked) and it’s the only time where I’m learning something about characters that I don’t already know. While the characters were how I expected them to be, it wasn’t enough: Luigi is wasted, Peach is a girl-boss who is perfect at everything just to make Mario look weak and foolish, Toad might as well not exist, Donkey Kong has badly written motivation, and Bowser (who was the best character on his own merit) just doesn’t do enough. And in the general, the movie just isn’t funny. It has me worried about the inevitable future movies, because at some point the one-trick novelty of being painfully faithful WILL wear off.
In this regard, I can understand why critics gave the Mario movie a 59% on Rotten Tomatoes. Between the Sonic movies and Mario movie, it’s quality vs. quantity. And no, Sonic doesn’t get the quantity just because he has more movies than Mario. Mario is the one that gets the quantity because of how much it felt like they were rushing through the game lore and showing everything about this video game character, rather than taking their time with it and truly developing all of that stuff through multiple films. As a result, the sequels are most likely not going to feel as special or even more special than the first film. The Mario movie went all out with the game references but didn’t do much with the substance of those references. The Sonic movies are the quality because they try to make something deep out of a video game franchise, and they’re taking their time developing this cinematic universe. The first movie started out as an origin story for Sonic and Eggman, and then the second movie ups the ante by having Tails, Knuckles, the Master Emerald, an Eggman that’s more game accurate (hopefully the third movie will finally make him fat), and Super Sonic. The Sonic movies sparingly use the game references, but they go all out with the substance of those references. That’s why I think that the Sonic movies are better than the Mario movie.
I agree. Even though more references to the music or game settings would be nice, I'm getting used to not seeing those elements (for once they are not reusing Chemical Plant Zone or Sky Sanctuary lmao). I personally like that they are taking their time to properly introduce the characters and attempt to add details to resonate with a mainstream audience that surely is not familiar with the games (especially after the rocky franchise). I like that more than just putting the characters in a situation since we are already supposed to be familiar with the characters (even though this is truly the first mainstream Hollywood adaptation of Mario and Co. since they live-action film only focused on Mario, Luigi, and Bowser)
@@supersaiyanfox9190 I unfortunately got spoiled on Super Sonic being in 2 thanks to a YT thumbnail, but I was still very excited to see it happen nonetheless. It ain’t just Super Sonic existing, it’s symbolic of Sonic completing and fully understanding his character arc, now knowing what it means to be a true hero and given the power to let him do awesome things like stopping the Death Egg Robot’s punch without flinching (kinda like Disney’s Hercules). Then Mario uses the star with Luigi, a VERY similar setup to above, but it feels a lot more empty by comparison. Mario nearly stumbles his way through the movie and Luigi hides in a dumpster (Mario also went through training AND has experience while Luigi doesn’t have any), yet they can perform perfectly together with the Star... The Robotnik fat suit is interesting, it’s not something I’d advocate for but I’m sure its inclusion will be super funny as hell (Robotnik just falls into a depression after 2 and eats too many eggs or something).
I gotta give my vote to the Sonic movies. I'll admit that I have a bit of a Sonic bias, but even as just movies, I feel like the Sonic movies had much better characters and pacing, which definitely helped make the watching experience more enjoyable. I will also say that while I do like references, I prefer them being more subtle and not in my face, which is actually another reason why I can say I prefer the Sonic movies. So yeah, I think I'll just stick with Sonic and his movies.
There are so many stories that need to be told in the sonic universe that I just can’t see it being thrown away. With Mario it’s the complete opposite due to it putting its focus on game references and nostalgia rather than the actual story that makes a movie.
Sonic universe doesn't have a lot creative creativity enemies and charathers, Mario universe yes have a lot creative creativity enemies and charathers Mario universe is very underrated, fault fandom Sonic universe trash

Atleast the plumbing scene features Mario and Luigi, while the wedding scene features Sonic's friend's girlfriend's sister! The plumbing scene is more apar to Sonic and Tails dancing russian scene.
Sonic films no question Love jim carrey's Dr. Robotnik The Mario film was rather discombobulated, colorful mess just filled with Easter eggs Not really fun pacing either & rather mediocre at best It's just eye candy for Mario fans Just my opinion but i feel the Sonic Films have more heart & appealing to fans, critics and general public. The Sonic Films were more reviewed higher and received a bit more too.
I have to say sonic, in all honesty it feels like it can be more of a movie series than mario can. Also i can imagine that the main sonic cast being on earth will feel less odd in the 3rd film, which is seeming to be taking a lot of inspiration from sa2
I am going to pick sonic as the mario movie did great and i enjoyed it but i think that sonic has get better style and story plus live action movies are better in my opinion
I finally found someone who agrees with me! In the Mario movie i was even immersed in some scenes, like the final battle, but the chills i felt watching Sonic 2... Super Sonic scene... Post credits... *Live action is impressive.*
@@richardperaza5083 true, but it means that Sonic can be more unique and interesting in storytelling whereas Mario will probably stay faithful (especially due to how much it made)

It's a tad of an unfair comparison since Mario has only one movie and Sonic is about to become a Trilogy. But with that said, from a storytelling and character standpoint, the Sonic movies are definitely better. I loved the Mario movie, even though they sidelined Luigi very badly.
The sonic movies will destroy mario movies when shadow shows up in the third movie, mario doesnt have good stories so his movies will stay the same forever
@@tk32502 Sure it would be cool to see more characters, but it doesn't feel earned. If more Mario characters appear, they need to be part of the story for a reason other than just being there for the fans. This is why Sonic characters fit better imo since Tails and Knuckles were the natural next step for the movies since it expanded on Sonic learning more about responsibility (i.e. learning to care for others and own up to their actions). They already teased Shadow, which hopefully will expand on their characters. On the other hand, I'm not sure how Wario will truly impact the other characters or why he will be in these movies. If anyone has thoughts, I'd be open to listening to them
@@fabianugalde3789The Mario movie teasing Yoshi kinda fell off too, because he already saw a lot of them in the background when Mario was traveling with Peach.
I love both, but I may have to choose Sonic, Mario is lacking Character focus and kind of goes by a little quick with it’s pacing. But regardless I think both still hold up pretty well.
The Sonic Movie 2 is better than the Mario Movie. But the Mario movie is a better start for the franchises. We're probably not just going to see Mario movies. but also other Nintendo franchises. Illuminations was interested in creating a super smash bros animated cinematic universe
I feel like the thing with Sonic is, yeah, it’s Sonic in the real world among humans, but so are half of his games. The Adventure games, Unleashed, 06. Heck even Sonic X was a similar premise. So I really don’t have much issue with Sonic hanging with humans because it’s happened many times before.
The Mario movie feels more like a Mario movie than the Sonic movies. Don’t get me wrong, I like both the Mario movie and Sonic movies, but the first one was barely Sonic. It felt like they just kinda dropped Sonic in a GTA mod. The second one adds more elements, but still seems to also kinda focus on the humans a lot, which makes it feel less like a Sonic movie. Who can’t wait for the third Sonic movie though?
I definitely vote Sonic! Not only am I a huge Sonic fan and am very VERY excited for the third Sonic movie coming in December, but I just feel like the Sonic movies did a better job of being a movie where Mario was just Mario stuff the molded into a movie. The Mario movie had terrible pacing in my opinion however I fully understand why people like it especially if you’re a Mario fan who loves fun references. Also, can we get more Sonic music in the movies please?
The moment that I heard Jim Carrey was going to be playing Dr. eggman in the new Sonic movie… I literally jumped🤩… Jim Carrey is incredible at playing what you might call “insane” (with/without) reason.😂 The grinch, mask, liar liar, the Truman show, the cable guy, etc. He definitely has a type of character that he really shines in. And that was what made me so excited for the Sonic movie, and he delivered in both movies as a perfect villain, and hilarious too.🤣
I’m a sonic movie guy, yes it’s somewhat detached from the games but what they do is well handled where the Mario movie just breezes past everything (I do wish the Sonic music was used more but JunkieXL will probably never since he didn’t do the same with Godzilla and said AI is the future soooooo)
I guess I’ll be the only Mario vote Lol! I don’t know when we started to hate our adaptations for looking and acting like the source material but I never felt like the Mario movie’s fan service ever got in the way of the plot they tried to tell and if anything, it enhanced what was definitely a pretty rushed script. While I like Sonic Movie 2 quite a bit, the Sonic Movies have always felt a bit more generic in their approach to me, especially Sonic 1. While yeah, having a basic plot is more conventional than a broken plot, I’d rather have a worse movie that feels like they understand what I want rather than a “technically good” one that plays it safe and does the bare minimum, hence why I prefer the less polished but definitely more reference heavy Sonic Movie 2. For me, even if you can explain it away as something new, at least for Sonic, it doesn’t do much for me when a lot of the elements I like about Sonic and his world from the games feel stripped away for the sake of a more “conventional digestible” story. I mean none of these movies are masterpieces anyways, so at least give me the stuff I wanna see and not, a wedding or a dance battle. In the end it really doesn’t matter, I think both are of the same quality, fun for families and fans (in the right mindset), and hell I like both (well at least the Mario Movie and Sonic 2). I think both have good chances at making a well beloved franchises as long as we don’t take them too seriously. THATS ME PERSONALLY OF COURSE!
I’m biased, as a sonic fan, b it I also liked the Mario movie. But anything with stronger character dynamics would have to win for me anyway, it’s the whole reason I care about any movie.
The real question is who had a better first movie, because isn't using both sonic movies a 2v1? We need to see more mario content to compare both franchises probably.
@@ICupLolbecause the Sonic movie been built on, 2 brought Tails, Knuckles, the Master Emerald, and Super Sonic, Drone Home introduced a friendly drone, Knuckles show set to build on Knuckles and show Eggman has followers, and 3 will bring in Shadow, so by far, Sonic's cinematic world been built upon in a meaningful way while Mario just has one with a lot of references and stuff without building on anything
Sonic movies are better imo. They have an actual story and lore with an ongoing narrative and they give the characters more fleshed out backstories compared to the games. The Mario movie’s still fun but it’s mainly a bunch of references thrown at your face 😂
The Mario movie actually kind of pissed me off because of Donkey Kong’s characterization and Bowser is more of a joke than a threatening villain like he was in Mario 64 and Galaxy. The Sonic movies at least got Knuckles and Robotnik right!
Tbh I gonna go with sonic movie because is focus a lot of action and it has a reference too don't get me wrong I also like mario movie but the movie kinda show more a lot of reference by I mean I like reference in the movie as same sonic movie too but they kinda show too much you know both movie it has some flaw but still great adaptation than whatever they did with RE movie and Halo show also I wanna to mention if you doesn't understand why tails and knuckles just appear randomly in the movie it's because they explain in a comic so it's kinda like prequel movie before the sequel started
Unfortunately, this problem with the fast paced Mario movie is a big problem with Universal's animation lately. According to on of the creators of Kung Fu Panda 4, they're wortied kids will get bored if a movie is too long or feels slow. And I have been seeing this with Mario, Kung Fu Panda 4, and Migration (and I heard Ruby Gillman suffered a similar problem). What's worse is I watched The Little Mermaid the other night, it was about the same runtime, but it was still able to be evenly paced between the slow emotional scenes and quick action scenes
I pick the Sonic movies. I've enjoyed both of the ones that Paramount made about him and the upcoming third one has a chance to be the best one in that trilogy. It was exceptable that Paramount made them be live-action with that hedgehog being on Earth because a bunch of the 3D Sonic games do take place on a digital version of earth. I watched the Mario movie on steaming at a neighbor's house during summertime last year and I think that it'a good one too. That problem of songs from the games not being included into the Sonic movies will end when Sonc 3 gets released because it did get revealed by a reliable source that the most wanted song for that movie WILL be in it! ( Live & learn by Crush 40, SA2's banger main theme song because the lead singer/songwriter of that rock band confirmed that he had signed a deal that Paramount can have the rights to that song and use it in that movie in whatever way that studio thinks is nessassary)
I think the Mario Movie does some things better than the sonic movie, that being the references, soundtrack and some of the story, while the Sonic Movies also do things just as well, in the character interactions, the plot, and the build-up. They both are equally great movies with to each their own strengths and flaws.
My vote's on Sonic. I prefer story and good writing than focusing on references. Like, don't get me wrong, both movies are stronger on some points than the other, but Sonic is the higher-quality video game adaptation into movie form.
To me, the Sonic movies take it because the characters feel like they’re genuinely trying to be like they’re Sonic characters. The Mario movie characters feel more like the actors imposing their own personality onto an image of the Mario characters. Also it feels the Mario movie’s references feel more like they’re obligatory at best and are just there for the sake of making a reference.
I go for Sonic. Has better character development and story as Mario is just 'point the reference'. And you cant really blame Sonic having less references as Sonic is Live Action and the Mario movie is fully animated, which gave them more room to add these references
I vote the sonic movies. Mario's movie feels more like "Mario" than the Sonic movies feel like sonic yes, there's more adherence too the source material and they have more gaming references and character accurate depictions, but the Sonic movies are more enjoyable because they have better plot structure, character building, and they appeal too a wider audience that would not be familiar with the games. In a sense since Sonic isn't as popular as Mario, they had too make it so that it could appeal to those who wouldn't know Sonic because he's the underdog in that situation.
1:35 I think another reason why sonic being in the real world is because there are multiple games where sonic is in a more grounded setting. Something else I’ve seen pointed out, is that by the end of the Mario movie, Mario is the same character from the game more or less. But throughout the 2 movies (and likely the 3rd movie), sonic has slowly become closer to his game counterpart, making it feel more like an ongoing character arc. My final vote is the sonic movie btw.
2 movies(almost 3) and a tv show about a character who was already a lot more story-driven VS 1 movie about a franchise where most characters are a cardboard box (except for the RPGs), i wonder who would win?
I know this comment section is filled with Sonic fans, but I’m not a fan of any of the Sonic movies ima just keep it real. They have more baby moments than the Mario movie. Eggman literally flosses in the second movie and I see two characters dance to uptown funk, while yeah the Mario movie had real music in it they didn’t make it part of the plot.. Mario movie being animated also helps its case in my opinion, the Sonic movie looks jarring at some moments and the first movie at least to me was just a basic roadtrip film that we have seen so many times. I will admit the 2nd Sonic movie was better but they butchered tails so hard and once again the fact they just have humans in it and made it live action was just a hard miss for me. Go ahead and cook me but I liked the Mario movie more and I see way more potential with that than the Sonic movies just purely based on the animation.
@@Sammy-34079 oh yeah 100% I do love comic book movies more! But Mario was just my preferred video game movie, let’s just hope marvel can make better things again so we have something to look forward to.
I’m a HUGE sonic fan but I feel Mario is way better. Sonic in live action as a medium just doesn’t do the character justice. And his characterization feels way too kiddish. It’s like I’m watching The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog instead of Sonic X. Mario however feels right on the money. Both need A LOT of work though. And sonics is even more disappointing because they use NONE OF THE GAMES MUSIC??? BEST VIDEO GAME MUSIC OF ALL TIME AND THEY DINT EVEN USE OPEN YOUR HEART FOR THE SUPER SCENE??? Hopefully 3 does better.
Sonic Movie(s) and it's kind of not close. 1. Better story 2. Better Dynamics 3. More fleshed out characters 4. Intriguing character development 5. Better villain All the Mario Movie really has over the Sonic movies is better animation but that's about it, and I feel like some people only like the Mario Movie more than the Sonic movie because of bias towards Mario rather than actually comparing the two movies.
Yeah, your 4 friggen fleshed out SONIC characters 😂 Mean while us Mario fans eating with 30+ Mario characters in the first film alone. Mario > Sonic. Don’t let your bias for Sonic clog your mind from which is genuinely more faithful.
@@JesseHOH None of the Mario characters feel properly fleshed out & Why are you Mario fans so toxic every time someone disagrees with you? Also I'm not being bias the Sonic Movies are just simply better for several reasons while the Mario Movie just simply overuses nostalgia and has a mid plot
I think that it's a similar scenario to the games. The Mario Movie is mostly a family movie, and the Sonic Movie is more on the lines of a movie with a decent story (the story in the games is at least decent 90% of the time, the gameplay of some of the games sucks though).
The first Sonic movie was a really fun time. But the second one was what trully got me into this amazing franchise. I really liked Mario movie as well, but while Super Mario is tasty treat for the fans, Sonic appeals to both die hard fans, and general audiences. So I guess you know what my vote is😁😁😁
While the Mario did make more money on one film, I believe the sonic movies are just gonna go much further long-term. Sonic has a much more stable foundation with two well structured and lore established movies with likable characters who each have their own struggles and dreams. It also reintroduces it’s characters for the newer audiences, while Mario relies too heavily on references and colorful imagery and kinda expects the audience to know who he is (as a result not everyone is gonna get all of the references and gags).
I'll say this in terms of being the best adaptation it 100% goes to the Mario Movie. In terms of being a better movie Sonic 2 beats it. Overall, I'd still pick the Mario Movie only because it was pretty much exactly what I expected when putting Mario on the big screen and also doesn't have to rely on celebrities to take up some of the screen time like Sonic does. Also, for being the only movie that generally made me smile when watching it.
@@UltraArchieSonic It took me a while to understand what you meant. What I was saying is that Mario doesn’t need to SHARE the spotlight with a celebrity like Sonic does. Being voice acted by a celebrity is entirely different.
@@hannahislop2101What’s weird with my opinion Hannah? I’m giving both movies a fair chance. Unlike you who goes into each comment strange and says “Mario always sucked”.
If I take just both FIRST movies, the vote goes for Mario, no questions asked. Sonic here has an unfair advantage at having two movies to develop its characters, while Mario only had its origin movie. With all the movies? Well, Sonic is more developed in general at this point, so the vote would go to Sonic. If we took the second Sonic movie alone? That's a lot tougher, because while the best scenes were generally better than the ones from Mario, the worsT were always WORSE. And by a lot, some times. The wedding subplot, in particular, wasn't just unnecesary. It was BORING. Sure, it had one or two references to the games, but I could have lived without them. There is ONE thing that, ultimately makes me choose Mario, and it is a sentimental, completely biased one. Having Charles Martinet saying at the end of the movie, and I quote, "These are my boys!" with pride (voicing Mario and Luigi's dad) brought a tear to my eyes, and I haven't cried in a movie since I was a child. But dammit if Charles didn't manage to make me tear a little. That was literally the perfect final voice line they could have given the man in the franchise. I'm pretty sure at that point, Charles wasn't acting.
I vote Sonic. You can argue I'm biased cuz I'm a Sonic fan, but the thing is, any non-Mario fan I know who watched the Mario movie didn't really enjoy it aside from some of the more well known references, the reasoning being that, as a story on its own, it falls flat. Since Mario is more popular tho, it'll likely be watched/enjoyed more in terms of sheer number of Mario fans. On the other hand, the people I've met that were unfamiliar with Sonic enjoyed the movie. In this case, I'd say it boils down to the writing for Sonic's movie to be character-driven, while the Mario movie is plot-driven. Although faithful adaptation is always considered, I'm personally iffy on making that a huge thing when comparing the two, because while one was clearly meant to be be a faithful adaptation, the other was meant to establish its own universe and continuity separate from the games. Since we're comparing film SERIES (and not just the first films against each other), Sonic has an advantage since it already has 2 films out. But seeing how everything goes, the pacing in Sonic reminds me of how the MCU was written and planned out (at least until the Endgame saga, not the current one): you have some major plots inspired by the source material, but it establishes its own thing that, eventually, surpassed the source material in popculture. ATM, I think the Sonic movie series has a better chance of that at the moment. What scares me with the Mario movies is that, if they keep doing more and more references rather than focus on the characters, less and less people will actually understand the movie, which will lessen the audience that would watch it.

It did it’s characters Far better and solidly, making them really charming and likable. choose a good and not so distracting cast, and it’s story feels far more charming and fun to me
Ironically, Sonic walked so Mario could run. If not for the success of Sonic 1 and 2 building a fan base for game movies, there'd be no incentive to make another Mario movie.
I would say the Mario movie is better than Sonic 1 But Sonic 2 is better overall Edit: Mario movie is basically Odyssey but without cappy or the actual odyssey
I'm a Mario fan but it's Sonic. Christ, it's Sonic the Mario movie is just a checklist of references, not doing anything good or interesting. The Sonic movies give each of the characters ACTUAL development. Sonic, Tails & Knuckles all compliment each other well and the serious moments actually are treated as serious and no stupid MCU humour to spoil it.
Sonic Movies are better. Because they actually have quality story and have times where they can slow down for the audience to understand the characters like knuckles and they also put references in the side not jus to mess with the plot but in the mario movie, it felt so rush and i really couldnt understand and feel for the characters and the pacing and story was fast and pretty mid also the movie feels like is just a reference movie.
10:18 ok thats fair but honestly, what were you expecting That’s always been Bowser’s motive throughout….ALL the games now I think about it destroy Mario and marry Peach
A lot of videogame adaptations (or simply popular IP adaptations) previous to the Sonic movie and Detective Pikachu relied heavily on the titular aspects and characters to be some sort of cameo, rather than actually working them into a respectful, honest take on their source material. Look no further than the early live action films made for the Transformers franchise (and I am willing to bet most movies following this trend can be traced back to Michael Bay doing his thing but that's besides the point). Mostly movies with a huge cast of annoying or boring human characters, and beloved pop culture characters being reduced to a funny aliens that finds themselves in a foreign world and don't know how to traverse it. If anything can be said about SEGA in any capacity, is that they're always painfully earnest about their projects, and the Sonic movies are no different. Sure we have, as previously mentioned, a cast of human characters that had nothing to do with the franchise in the first place, but they're actually written with care and developed as characters, and the dynamic of the Wachowskis with Sonic and friends is fleshed out to be this believable, heartwarming familial bond that, admittedly, I was surprised to see be actually acknowledged so freely. It makes all the sense in the world when we witness their journey as an audience, because the writers are doing a fantastic job all around with the stories they want to tell. And whenever the movies feel a little clumsy or even cringe, I can't help but smile because the Sonic franchise is no stranger to this at all, and it's just charming to me I'm not gonna lie. I was worried about the wedding sideplot in the second movie falling back into the aforementioned trope of giving human characters the lead more than necessary, but you know what? Rachel, Maddie and Tom are genuinely fun to see, and all those scenes served as a nice goofy and even plot-relevant contrast with the rest of the film, I can't say I hate it, because I don't. I actually like it 😂 and it's nowhere near as grating or insulting as how Transformers handled this for the longest time. The Sonic movies are full of charisma and earnest love for the franchise, and if we hear from the people behind it, it's clear that they're more than excited to work with this IP and the characters they've made rightfully theirs, as the story takes place in its own self-contained universe independent from the videogames canon. It's ironic that the SONIC films take more time to slow down and let the story breathe to build up organic and natural character interactions, when compared to the Mario movie. Loved the Mario movie, but Sonic has me hooked, and I'm super excited for Sonic 3 and December can't get here soon enough!!!

I agree with this the Mario Movies was ok but the Sonic Movies were great
@@supersaiyanfox9190the Mario Movie needed better Story telling

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed!
I like the Sonic Movies more but when it comes to video game i pick Mario

Superhero Marvel/Dc book movies are better!!!
You can tell Miyamoto didn’t want to overcomplicate himself and treated the movie like a regular game.
I go for Sonic. Has better character development and story as Mario is just 'point the reference'.

video game movies sucks
Superhero Marvel/Dc is movies better!!!
@waltDisney-34079 and what about now Mouse? You are fumbling it quite hard
If sonic 3 was out mabye it would be insta better

They have more baby moments than the Mario movie. Eggman literally flosses in the second movie and I see two characters dance to uptown funk, while yeah the Mario movie had real music in it they didn’t make it part of the plot..
Mario movie being animated also helps its case in my opinion, the Sonic movie looks jarring at some moments and the first movie at least to me was just a basic roadtrip film that we have seen so many times. I will admit the 2nd Sonic movie was better but they butchered tails so hard and once again the fact they just have humans in it and made it live action was just a hard miss for me.

The first Sonic movie was a really fun time. But the second one was what trully got me into this amazing franchise. Superhero Marvel/Dc is movies better!!!
Sonic is better.
I'm sticking to Sonic sight even though that his third movies coming out so everybody will start to like Sonic more than Mario

In terms of being a better movie Sonic 2 beats it.
Overall, I'd still pick the Mario Movie only because it was pretty much exactly what I expected when putting Mario on the big screen and also doesn't have to rely on celebrities to take up some of the screen time like Sonic does. @@RaccoonThunderMario_Official oh okay. that is true.
They're both amazing but I like the mario movie better
mario sucked a*s
I'm gonna have to say the Mario movie. The Sonic movie focused way too much on the human characters.

For someone who knows only the basics of Sonic and knows more about Mario.
I surprisingly like the Sonic movies Far more than the Mario movie.
It did it’s characters Far better and solidly, making them really charming and likable.
choose a good and not so distracting cast, and it’s story feels far more charming and fun to me
Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario it's overrated to me, just like his movie in the previous year
AGREED
Ironically, Sonic walked so Mario could run. If not for the success of Sonic 1 and 2 building a fan base for game movies, there'd be no incentive to make another Mario movie.
I vote sonic
I would say the Mario movie is better than Sonic 1
But Sonic 2 is better overall
Edit: Mario movie is basically Odyssey but without cappy or the actual odyssey
I think they’re both good.
I vote Sonic❤
Both movies are good. Sonic just started slightly better due to how the story was made
Sonic Movies are better.
I was there and Mario is better because he’s first
The sonic movies are 10000x better
10:18 ok thats fair but honestly, what were you expecting That’s always been Bowser’s motive throughout….ALL the games now I think about it destroy Mario and marry Peach
Facts, the fact he said it’s only been his motive ONCE or TWICE showed me how little he knows about Mario.
Best movies list no bias:
1: Sonic 2
2: Mario movie
3: Sonic 1
Facts
Mine as well
Spot on
I agree but, let me make some changes!
Best movies no bias:
1. Sonic 2
2. Sonic 1
3. Mario movie
Me & My Mates love Mario & Sonic.
So which movie is better exactly? 😑
@@Jediah-s6pnone is better. Let's just enjoy them instead of doing pointless debates
@@Communist-veteran ok
they just building up to a smash bros movie. we got detective pikachu, sonic, now mario.
Yea sonic
The sonic movies are better than the Mario movies. I think that the way that sonic adapted to the earth is amazing. Also, sonic had to go through a lot more than Mario ever had in the movies. Another thing is that the sonic movies introduced a lot of new characters too.
