  • Hello designers! in this Affinity Designer tutorial I will show you my workflow on how to create this orange from start to finish. This is a step by step guide, so first you will learn how to use the stock panel to get a reference photograph, then I will show you how to create a colour palette from that photograph. Next I will show you how to trace the image using the pencil and pen tools so we can create a vector version. Then you will learn how to add texture using the brushes in Pixel persona mode whilst using our newly created colours. You will also learn how to duplicate shapes and to finish it all off I'll teach you how to create the background and also water droplets.
    I will be including many tips and tricks along the way with pop up shortcuts.
    If you have any questions or want to show me how to do something better, leave a comment, and don't forget to click like and subscribe.

      It's fast becoming my favourite too. I tried Illustrator many years ago - but gave up in frustration as I didn't find it very easy or intuitive (I'm talking way back to creative suite 4 here)... it put me off attempting to work digitally. In contrast, I'm finding Affinity very easy to learn, and I am loving it so far. Thanks again!

    Hi, I have not watched all your video yet. However I can tell purely by your navigation and the use of zooming into the elements you are changing that this is going to be very interesting and informative. As I am on a lunch break at present, I will definitely be back to see and follow your demonstration as this is exactly what people need. Reasonable delivery speed, clear direction as to what you are doing and where you are moving to within the program this helps with the learning with what can a first be overwhelming at first with all the different facets the program holds.

    Great tutorial. Just wondering if we are adding all the textures in pixel persona, are we finally creating a raster illustration ?

    • @ArtistWright
      @ArtistWright  15 дней назад

      I like the way you think, I guess we are creating a Frankenstein. The only problem I see with this way of creating is, if you scale the final image up afterwards the texture will pixelate, so it's best to work at the largest scale you want the image to be.

  • @PrimeRsoul
    @PrimeRsoul 2 года назад +1

    Thank you so much for this. Amazing results by using the right tools. The only downside I see is making use of the pixel persona. If the export will have to be vectors, scaling will be an issue and file size will be big as well. Is there anyway to get around this?

    • @ArtistWright
      @ArtistWright  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! you are right, scaling up will be a problem when there are raster elements, and size will be bigger for sure. As far as I can see there isn't a way around this unless you use a proper vector brush.

    what did the length feature help with when tracing the orange in the first step?

    • @ArtistWright
      @ArtistWright  3 года назад +1

      Hi there, it basically makes that rope you drag around a bit longer which helps with how smooth the line will turn out. Imagine if the rope was short it would pick up all smaller movements and not be so smooth. Hope that makes sense

    Is there any chance of creating free form gradient like In Ai. ?

    • @ArtistWright
      @ArtistWright  3 года назад +1

      Good question, and no they don't, but you could try and use the different kind of gradients like elliptical and conical etc. Also maybe add different shapes and add gaussian blur. It would be handy to have that free form option

    • @MilanB
      @MilanB 3 года назад

      @@ArtistWright I was thinking about it too. It would be crazy if they add that feature to affinity. Every effect I think of is easier to do in Ai, in Affinity Designer must "hack" the way.😆 Anyway appreciate your answer mate. Have a good day/night.

    Mmm, how to break rectangle by using single curve ?! Also: Artistic tool; type something, push "vector crop tool", cut ... But how to "apply" a cut ? ( To get new "rectangle"; if i'm correct now ) thanks!!

    • @ArtistWright
      @ArtistWright  3 года назад +1

      Hey Michael, I don't think affinity designer has the option to cut vectors using a single curve. if you have a rectangle and you want to cut it into two, you can draw out another rectangle and make it super thin (instead of a single line/curve) then lay that over your original rectangle, select both then click on SUBTRACT in the GEOMETRY tools.

    • @ArtistWright
      @ArtistWright  3 года назад +1

      Or the XOR tool in the Geometry tools. check out my other video - ruclips.net/video/JrbW9vT3wA8/видео.html

      when you type out something with the artistic text tool,then use the vector crop tool, you will see a box around the text, you have to move any of the sides.

    • @tezbriz
      @tezbriz 3 года назад +2

      You can draw A line with the pen tool and then expand stroke. Minus it from the box using geometry and then divide.
