Synthetic oil can be changed after 16 k.

Newer model you can change oil at 10k km and 10+ year older cars 7k km, it helps to maintain a good engine life.
Also, he was using the wrong/cheap tool to remove the oil cap, don't worry I'm moving to Melbourne from Sydney in OCT and I'm a certified mechanic..
